So many posters thought I was crazy when I suggested that the injured should be rested. How many are now out? We have Arrington, Blount and Edelman. I don't know whether Connolly is officially out. Of course, Easley was given the rest of the season off to rest.

I applaud the idea of resting injured players instead of risking further injury against the jets and the bills.

Someone else suggested that some of the backup linemen get more game action than normal to test them out. In addition, that would give rest to the regulars. Of course, my idea in that case Garapollo should be out there instead of Brady.

I think this is likely the case but this isn't something I'd figure Belichick to do. In a perfect world, I'd like to think Dennard has finally adjusted to his role in the slot, ridding the need to bring Arrington back too early. Edelman's pretty important too but the Pats must figure what they have is more than enough to beat the Jets, which might be an understatement.

Not exactly new:

Maybe rest our key guys if we're up by 20+ at the half or 3rd-4th quarter

While we are at it, we should rest Revis as well. They don't have a receiver worthy of being stranded on the island.

Arrington came up lame against the Dolphins and would not be recovered in a week from a hammy, and Edelman probably wan't cleared. I doubt this is resting injured players. Those guys couldn't go.

Nevertheless, the bigger point in your previous post is valid. No other team has backups with the experience as starters as Amendola and Dennard.

I would suspect that Blount could have played today. We shall see how Gray does vs a decent Jets run defense.

Well you gotta play these last two games, they are Important, Denver isn't losing again in the regular season so unless you want to travel in the playoffs there is no resting players. The guys mentioned above are out because of injuries nothing more.

Unless you can demonstrate that these players would have been lacing them up a few weeks ago, it seems a little hasty to give yourself too much credit. Pretty much everyone said, "if they can't go, they shouldn't play."

If Denver loses tomorrow I'd love to rest everyone who was out today plus Wilfork, Gronk, Revis, DMC. And lots of Jimmy G :D

Otherwise, just the really banged up ones

Howzabout we clinch #1 first???

Sounds tempting, but not playing for 3 weeks has a downside, also.

True, maybe the healthy ones Gronk, Revis, DMC, Wilfork (assuming they came out of that last game without injury) I would like to see play a half along with Brady. But the injured guys I'd definitely let rest another week. I believe 2010 was the last time a similar situation where everything was wrapped up and we had the bye, IIRC most starters were pulled at half. Only BJGE was in there because they were trying to get him 1000 rushing yards.

The Pats offense isn't clicking so the last thing I want to see is it rest up for an extended period of time. If anything, I think it would benefit them more to actually play and get added reps.

This gets trotted out a lot, but has little factual basis behind it.

The loss to the Steelers in 2005 appears to mean something until you realize that the Steelers were actually a better team than Indy if you exclude games missed by Big Ben. Including 2009 is patently absurd considering they made it to the SB. Am I really supposed to believe that they would have won had they played their starters more a month prior?

Despite all the clamor, NE has regularly rested guys in the final week including 2006, 2009, 2010. If Cincy wins I expect the Patriots to give the Mash unit some rest and find an opportune time to pull guys like Brady, Gronk and Revis as the game goes along. The one thing that might keep them on the field longer would be if they continue to struggle offensively.

Sammy Watkins? eh... maybe not. With Kyle Orton throwing the ball, island or not island, it's bound to be headed towards a defender.

I think the Pats offense needs to get in sync before we talk about resting them.. but can see the need for a lot of substitution.

What I would favor is diversifying the passing offense.. Wright, Tymms, Develin, Hooman need to have some balls thrown to them..

Only players i would rest for entire game...Gronk and Edleman along with Revis. Brady comes out at half

I'm not sure I support the notion of two weeks without football as the playoffs start. Perhaps the starters can play a half or so but they need to play football. Continuity when you're on a winning roll shouldn't be tampered with. Also, I want them to obliterate Buffalo.
