Biggest off-season need(s)

man I see teams with great rbs like the 49ers, packers, Dallas, and I think what would be like for an DC to game plan for Brady and a good rb. All teams that face us are primarily worried about the pass. Give them a dose of dual threat, I wanted Carlos Hyde in the draft, I'm tired of jags RB, but BB doesn't give a **** to the position
************ himself couldn't run behind this line.

A super bowl parade. But I'll settle for a guard.

offensive line..another pass rusher.

a good outside receiver would be nice. those short passes for 4 yards are mind boggling

Agreed. Good Points. What about a deep threat though?

We could certainly use a field-stretching WR, even if that means selecting someone else via the draft and/or taking a shot at a lower/middle tier guy of guy.

For example---Andre Holmes is a free agent in March, and I think a guy in that mold (relatively cheap, 6'4", physical) would be great to have.

LT, LG, LB, DT, S, WR

I could be totally wrong on this, but I think they were doing quick short passes to slow down and tire out the pass rush.

also think tight end is still a need. we need someone other than gronk.
wright isn't a real TE and hooman is only a decent blocker.

OL was obviously exposed a bit today - though one wonders if the lack of Edelman played a role in that as well

Obviously we've seen MANY games where the OL played well too - but IMO you can never have enough quality or depth in the OL

Some also don't seem to recognize there's a correlation between WR and the pressure on the OL

We seem to have more of a credible deep threat than in some years but if there's a veteran we can grab that can stretch the field I'd be all over giving Brady both protection and some deep threats

Knowing/seeing the value of TE I'd expect you'd see some attention there as well

As far as D, I'd have to think that Revis is going to be a priority.

a receiver over 5'5" would be a nice to have...

a receiver over 5'5" would be a nice to have...
Gronkowski – 6’6”
Wright – 6’4”
LaFell – 6’3”
Dobson – 6’3”
Tyms – 6’3”

We actually have a lot of tall targets.

All I want for Christmas is the Cowboy’s offensive line...

draft:
1 - OT/OG/C Cameron Erving
2 - FS Cody Prewitt.....need to add a top safety regardless of whether mccourty returns or not
3 - OT Spencer Drango
3 (predicted comp pick) - WR Ty Montgomery
4 - (from Tampa) DE Linden Trail
4 - FS Durrell Eskridge

based on the assumption
- bring back ayers and mayo is still here
- solder will be gone
- either vereen or ridley return
- DT rotation of Wilfork, Siliga, Easley, Branch

I could see drafting 2 ot and cutting solder and vollmer. Don't know why cannon can't play guard he has the build for it.

Some comments on the comments:

1. Any talk about getting rid of either of the OT's is past ludicrous. It really is. I don't understand why its is immediately perceived that anyone they would bring in would be BETTER than what we have. IIRC there are a couple of top FIVE draft picks who would LOVE to be having the year (albeit not a great one) Nate Solder is. having

2. Its also interesting that a lot of those nervous nellies who feel that way are the same people who wept when we took Jamie Collins instead of Corderelle Patterson.

3. That being said, while I think Wendell and Connolly are "adequate OG's" THAT is the area I would love to upgrade this off season. Ideally next year the 2 OG's would be filled by Flemming and our first round pick. If Flemming or Cannon aren't the guys to fill one of those roles, then I'd go to the well again and hope we hit oil again like we did with Stork in a later round.

4. I violently reject the notion we need a high round WR. Its been proven OVER and OVER again, that while nice and shiny, WR's do NOT provide the impact that many other positions do. Besides writing off Aaron Dobson would be a mistake. We have too many decent wide outs right now on the roster. Having the same guys on the roster for ONCE and working to develop them would greatly improve the production of the group as a whole. Its time to stop the WR revolving door. Say NO! to high end WR's

When are you going to get it. This offense does better when the ball is spread around, and often bogs down when one receiver becomes the focus.

5. After filling the OL needs, I'm good with going after the best DL or LB for added depth.

6. DB should probably be a low priority. Of course that would dramatically change if Revis and McCourty aren't signed

7. Interesting stat that should be noted and repeated in all threads. The garbage time TD that the Pats gave up to the Colts in week 11 was the last TD given up by this defense in the 2nd half. And except for the Jets, GB, Det., SD, and Miami, are all over .500 teams with excellent offenses. Just sayin'

Have you ever seen BB play his starting LT as TE for most of a game? Unless he is dealing with some kind of injury, I doubt BB will think him worth the 7+ million invoked by the 5th year option. It is certainly reasonable to disagree with that point, but to say it is ludicrous is absurd.

Solder is not having an 7.5m year this year let alone next. I think the concussions and his height are tag teaming him. I saw vollmer whiff on a couple blocks yesterday think it was him. He has a huge cap hit next year so I definitely don't think they keep them both.

That's not a good analysis Gally, If the purpose of your strategy is to put 2 OT's as a power OT/TE combination, then I'd put Solder at the TE position every time. Not only has he the quicker feet of the 2 guys available, he's had extensive experience as a TE both in college and his first year in the league.

While I think you're wrong in the intensity of criticism of Solder, I am not complaining that you ARE criticizing him. That's your right. However, the example you offer as your proof that BB agrees with you is very, very, very far off base.

Solder's 5th year option was picked up before the season started. Clearly he isn't playing at an all pro level (few do), but how much is him and how much has been the disruption on the interior of the OLl or other factors, not Solder's fault, only BB and his staff knows for sure. The next time we will be able to even infer how THEY think, will be when he start to hear potential contract figures on his next deal.
