Here we go:

  • First and foremost, I give the Jets a lot of credit for playing tough and hard against the Pats. For as bad as they have been this year, they have never quit on Rex.
  • This game was ugly from start to finish. The Pats beat themselves a lot of this game. They need to clean it up. I will chock it up to all the starters out.
  • Speaking of that, they absolutely need to get Dan Connolly back. Since he got hurt, the offensive line has really struggled.
  • I don't know why McDaniels didn't use Vereen more in this game. He is a Jets' killer. They cannot stop him in the run or the pass. Should have started the game with him. My only guess is they are managing his snaps because of his ankle injury.
  • I know the Pats like to play contain rush against a mobile QB, but not all mobile QBs are the same. I would have sent more pressure on Smith especially when Mangold went down. He is far more mistake prone than say Luck or Rodgers.
  • I think we have seen that Amendola is invisible on offense more because he is redundant with Edelman rather than his play. He isn't as good as Edelman, but if Edelman was out he could pick up the slack.
  • I don't have a lot of good to say about today's game, but I chock it up to a division foe who knows how to play you with 5 or so starters out.
  • I do give the Pats defense credit because is yet another game (since Indy) that the Pats have not given up a TD in the second half. If that trend continues into the playoffs, this will be a tough team to beat no matter if they play the AFCCG in New England or Denver (assuming they get that far).
  • Congrats on getting the bye. And go Bengals. Let's hope next Sunday's game is irrelevant.

Right on the money Rob. A win is a win is a win. 3 key starters are out and they still get the win.

Oops! One more. The refs did screw the Jets on that converted third down. Not because they gave the Pats the first down and didn't overturn it. I felt Amendola got it originally and they gave him a bad initial spot. I think they screwed them by screwing up the sequence that pretty much forced Ryan to throw the flag. It didn't matter because the Pats still would have won the game, but it could have been costly.

it is what it is, Ryan will always get his team to overachieve against us

One more! Thank you Baltimore for crapping the bed. Now Buffalo will definitely be playing for something next week assuming the Pats need to win that game.

I would say that was pretty much exactly the game I expected -- a close, ugly win. I'll take it.

Honestly, I think everyone is overreacting.

Had it been another blowout, Jet fans would have just shrugged their inbred shoulders and said "fuggetaboutit"

But keeping the game close and letting them think they had a chance to win it until the very, very end.. thats Belichick ripping out their hearts.

It's the cruelest thing he could have done to them.

Thats my story and I'm going to stick to it.. ;)

I don't understand this. I had thought that is was short by and inch at first. But Rex was stupid to through the flag because the replay showed that the ball was marked shorter than Amendola's forward progress. It really didn't matter because Rex was going to lose the challenge anyway, once it was reviewed. No screwing of the Jets on that one.

Because they weren't clear it was a first down and it looked like the they announced it was 4th and inches. It faked out everyone in the stadium. When he realized it was a first down, he was probably going to have to call a time out anyway since they most likely had their goal line/short yardage defense in the game thinking it was fourth and inches. It was poorly managed by the refs.

All 4 of Geno Smith's starts vs. us have been within a FG or less.

Overall, 4 of the last 5 vs. the NYJ have been within a FG or less as well.

These games aren't anything close to "gimmes."

It's a BIG WIN. One Pt or by 100 Pts I'll Take It. One step closer to sealing HF through Gillette and that would be another step towards Ultimate Goal. For now, On To Buffalo.

I expected close at hAlf...but not that. Win is a win baby! Collins with the play of the day.

Now all the negative Nancies will come out. It was the Jets. They survived.

They are all tired. They were so back and forth in the game day thread. One minute they were constantly complaining about how the Pats were going to go into Denver and lose and then next minute appear on the back of milk cartons to talking about how the Pats were going to lose in Denver.

Jets defense played the style of defense that usually stymies the Pats the last playoff game of the year. Tight coverage, tipped balls and pressure on Brady. Not many teams have the ability to do that but the Jets are one of them.

Amendola was the hero today. He stepped up for Edelman big time, made clutch plays on the field when we needed them most and was extremely successful on special teams.

Offensive line was putrid today. I credit Richardson and that defensive line but I also have to agree that the lines continuity is broken without Connolly. Kline and Devey are horrible. Anyone notice Cannon playing LT today? Not sure about the reasoning behind that.

Gronkowski is the new hack a Shaq. It seems to me sometimes that his athletic ability combined with his physical strength and size is such a mismatch that the refs let a lot of defensive PI go uncalled. Possibly because they feel sorry for the opposition? Not sure but it doesn't seem to stop them from calling off PI when Gronk gets frustrated. Good game despite Gronks pedestrian numbers today. Actually Gronks numbers today most Te's would kill for.

Overall for the offense it was a tough day. But in the end they found a way a to score more points than other team.

The defense wasn't as impressive as the Jets today but anytime you can hold any offense to 16 points your usually gonna win especially if your the New England Patriots. I thought they played well considering the familiarity of the competition. Maybe a little too passive at times considering G Smith is a turnover machine. But overall not a bad performance at all.

Visited the game thread today and it was pathetic as usual. Everybody expects a blowout and nitpicks everything about everything. Kind of sad when so called fans give up on their team down by 3 points and the 2nd half hasn't started. Pretty tough crowd in that room for sure.

"No offense, I am getting tired of the "this is the Jets' Super Bowl". This is a team that lost eight straight games and 11 of 12 games. If they cannot get up to stop a slide like that, what makes them think they can get up for a game where they are two games away from ending a nightmare season."

Accountability, Rob?

The Jets played about as well as they are capable of but they still came up short -- just short, but short.
