Hoodies should be gray and drab.

Yeah, the red hoodie didn't work out so well.

Ask the Cowboys how they feel about wearing their home blues.

I recall posters in the past saying that the Pats tend to perform poorly in red.

Those posters would be pretty wrong.

As of October 2012, they were 6-0 wearing the throwback reds for home games. I also distinctly remember them wearing the throwback reds on the road for Thanksgiving in Detroit in 2010 and having a nice win out there. (The game where Brady hooked up on a bomb to Branch and he turned some poor Lions CB inside out and twirled him three times on the way to the end zone). I also vaguely remember them wearing them on the road (again in Detroit for Thanksgiving) in 2002 and winning that one too. For some reason, I have a pucture in my mind of Bruschi leaping over the OL on a blitz and going completely vertical that day.

So, to the best of my knowledge they are 8-0 wearing the throwback reds. I'm not sure if they wore them last year at all?

"PATRIOTS ARE PERFECT WHEN WEARING THROWBACKS AT HOME
The Patriots are now 6-0 when wearing throwback uniforms at home. New England has worn uniforms featuring the old “Pat Patriot” logo at home six times since switching to the current logo in 1993. In addition to today’s game against the Jets, the Patriots have also worn throwbacks at home against Green Bay on Oct. 2, 1994 (17-16 win), against Buffalo on Sept. 14, 2009 (25-24 win), against Tennessee on Oct. 18, 2009 (59-0 win), against Minnesota on Oct. 31, 2010 (28-14 win), and against the N.Y. Jets on Oct. 9, 2011 (30-21 win)."

Thanks for the correction.

...actually, now that i think of it, I also have a foggy memeory of another red throwback game on the road for ANOTHER Thanksgiving game in Detroit in 2002. For some reason, I think there was a pic out there of Bruschi on a blitz leaping almost vertically over the OL. They won that day too, I think.

So, it's possible they are 8-0 in red throwbacks.

Post edit: Just checked. Yup!

Goodell instituted a stupid moronic rule* about helmets and uniforms that made it so the Pats can't wear the full throwback uniform anymore. He must have decreed it after discovered this stat.

*yeah, I know. Is there any other kind of rule from him?

Red team uniforms doesn'tmake a bad team good.
Ron Ehrhardt's 1981 team in red isn't beating the 2004 team in blue.
But it does seem to confer a small statistical advantage - you could compare it to the advantage a gambler gains counting cards.

Cherry picking. Fifteen yards and an automatic first down. They wore red the whole year they went 1-15. They wore red the whole year they went 2-14. They wore red the other whole year they went 2-14.

If you don't cherry pick I can get many more losses than wins if they are in red. Team History is long. :)

Still, good post. High schools no longer allow you to paint visiting team locker rooms pink. Cracked.com has a few articles on that stuff.

BTW, was't there a thread on win correlation to hoodie color?

We were talking about them used as "THROWBACKS".

As far as I can tell, the Brady Patriots are 8-0 wearing them.

We weren't talking about when they were the current uniforms.

Again, red doesn't make a bad team good. It provides a small, statistically significant advantage based on peer-reviewed research. According to the research, the Patriots would have a small but notable advantage playing in red, and have a disadvantage playing in blue. Take the same players, take them out of blue and put them in red, and they gain a small advantage.

It doesn't mean putting Mark Sanchez in a red uniform makes him better than Peyton Manning.

I'm sure in the 55 year study on English football there were red teams that lost games. But apparently wearing red as a team confers an advantage.

Upon further review there was no penalty for cherry picking. :)

Don't want to go away from flying elvis, but we need to have a red alternate until pat the patriot can return again. In hindsight, that was a good thing they lost those blue on blue games because that look sucks bad.

Then why didn't BB's red hoodie lead us to victory?

I love the red Jersies! I would love to see them make a comeback.

Does it explain why teams in green pants and green jerseys attract lowlife scum and suck organizationally?

For whatever reason, I don't like green uniforms. (No, it has nothing to do with the current NY Jets; they did, however, choose a color worthy of their historical play though. :)) I've always been turned off by the Philadelphia Eagles uniforms (although I loved Jaworski). And, despite being in the same division as the Patriots, I like Buffalo and Miami (both uniforms and teams) but never cared for the Jets at all.

Someone here recently did the analysis and found that the red hoodie performed the worst.

Belichick doesn't play on the field. :D
