Speculation: Josh McDaniels to replace Jim Harbaugh as 49ers head coach?

I hope not. I really don't want to lose McDaniels. The first move he would have to make, if he did go there, is replacing Kaepernick. I'm not exactly sure how he would go about that, given Kaepernick's contract. After the year Kaepernick has had, I highly doubt they would find a trade partner.
Jets.

Since he's a top tier OC, I hope he sticks around. Also, given what he had to deal with in both Denver and St. Louis, I think he'll be very cautious about the QB situation of any team that talks to him about a job.
He'd do well in Atlanta if he gets a decent DC and commits resources to rebuilding that d. I think he'd mess his pants day dreaming about that group of receivers.

I would chalk up all the stories out of San Francisco right now as posturing. Harbaugh's agents are floating the Michigan stories fast and furious as they can to drive up his bargaining position. The 49ers are dumping other coaching options on the media to signal Harbaugh they don't have to keep him.

It's all a bunch of agents doing the limbo dance at this point.

It would be tampering for the 49ers to even talk to coaches like McDaniels or Gase. How can they have "leading candidates" without even talking to them?

Then who would we blame when things don't go perfect on offense?

I wouldn't want the San Fran job. He is stuck with Kaepernick.

Despite the gaudy numbers in his contract, it's my understanding that Kaepernick can be cut painlessly. The 49ers brass was savvy and crafted a deal that sounded impressive but didn't tie them down: http://deadspin.com/colin-kaepernicks-126-million-contract-is-remarkably-1586520353

ATL is a better fit for Josh whom I would not like to lose, except when he calls for Vereen to run up the middle against a stacked run D. Seems like every good OC has their invariable brain dead play of choice; I know my man Charlie Weis did.

If he's simpatico with Atlanter's GM that would be a great fit. Decent QB. Defense needs serious fixing, but manageable. Easy division except for NO. Better than SF with the K person at QB and with Gore likely leaving and Bolden finally going on social security. Tough defensive division.

I don't think Atlanta has a GM for next year. It's hard to see how Dimitroff keeps his job after the way that team has collapsed. But, I guess stranger things have happened.

Jay Gruden. He was a successful QB at Louisville, offensive assistant under brother Jon at TB, good OC with Cincinnati, and would benefit from a little seasoning under Bill Belichick.

I agree with you. However, apparently the Falcons still consider his Julio Jones trade as a gamble that worked out and not as the disaster that send the organization into the downward spiral the last two years.

I would be very surprised if Dimitroff is sent packing together with Smith.

Why wouldn't they?

I'm going to assume that means that McDaniels is the guy the 49ers would want most.

If McDaniels is smart, he'll wait until Belichick retires and take over the NEP.
That's not the way it works. Lot of things can change in 4-5 years. That would be a bad decision by the Patriots and a bad decision by McDaniels.

Why wouldn't they?

Because their team collapsed under the missing depth in key positions. I wonder if a handful of draft picks might have been able to provide just that.

But it doesn't matter, you have obviously your opinion and I have mine about giving away an entire draft.

I dont know if he wants to wait that long for his next head coaching job

They didn't give away an entire draft. They flipped 2011 firsts for

2011 2nd
2011 4th
2012 1st
2012 4th

That's a big price, but 4 draft picks is not why that team has struggled in the past 2 seasons.
