end of first half play calling and my mutilation of a Napoleon quote

You said it was probably what the Dolphins wanted. I expect the Dolphins would have been very happy to have an incomplete pass and stop the clock. The Patriots strategy, while not working, had the highest percentage chance of working.
Dear moron,

If I read your post where you disagree with me and agree with you I re-read my post. I've been unclear before.
Then I see I made the point you use, but in the second or third paragraph.
Then I see no one else is confused by what I said.
There is only one conclusion.

Should I re-quote myself or you, you non-reading posts you reply too "esteemed" poster. :)

I'm almost guaranteeing that I'm mis-quoting Napoleon here. Yes, he was an arrogant db. He wasn't a sarcastic, arrogant db. I'm pretty sure I've put my spin on it.

If you find yourself doing what your opponent wants, maybe you should do something else.

When the Dolphins called time out, did McDaniels pause and reflect on what he was doing?

Don't get me wrong. Unless he knew they'd get a 32 yard return and have time for one 35 yard TD pass attempt, making them use timeouts rather than letting them save one if the pass is incomplete isn't a bad strategy.

Still. Didn't one part of him say, "Hey, this is what they want!"
I'm quoting Napolean as well. Dynamite, that is...

I'd blame the ST first for not tackling. The 3 consecutive run plays is what most teams do. You can't really blame the D either since that was almost a miracle catch by Wallace.

And the refs for missing a block in the back.

Even if I grant most of this, the sequence was still replete with error. Running three times was less of a problem than how they ran. And you can damn sure blame the D because in that situation, the one thing that can't be done is letting the WR get past you. Three points is no big deal, 7 pretty much evaporates the entire lead you worked hard to build. Any catch in bounds and the half is likely over. Butler did the one thing he couldn't do, and deserves criticism for it, no matter how impressive the catch.

Seriously some of you people should be forced to live through the season of a team that actually has consistently bad coaching to appreciate our staff more..

seriously? blaming McDaniels?

i am surprised it is not Boyer's fault.. guess we have to wait for Beavis and Butthead on the radio to proclaim it first

Belichick's QB had already thrown a horrible interception in his own territory to close out a half a few weeks earlier. Belichick did not have the confidence in his QB/offense to do anything but run out the clock against Miami. It didn't work, because the special teams and defense eff'd it all up.

I don't get the point. They were trying to get to halftime up 14-6. This was the best shot at that. And quit blaming McDaniels for everything, you can bet your last dollar that Belichick told him to run and keep the clock moving/force timeouts.

In fairness to JMD, I don't think there hasn't been a Patriots offensive coordinator who I didn't question during their time with the team. Going back to my memory when I started to complain... Erber, Ray Berry/Les Steckel, Coury, Ray Perkins, Larry Keenan, Ernie Zampeze, Charlie Weis, BOB, etc.

This Josh stuff is a lovefest compared to how we've treated other OC's. Fans used to rip Charlie Weis's gameplans a new one every week. Not to mention the fat jokes. And he was part of 3 titles. o_O

gotta give them credit for recognizing the mismatched.

I was kinda surprised they didn't go for 2 since the Pats were in shocking state.

Did the play work? No.=Terrible call should have done the opposite.
Did the play work? Yes.=Excellent call.

Every fanbase in the league seems to be convinced they have the worst OC in the entire league. They must all be tied for last.

The basic idea was sound - run the ball 3x to force Miami to use its timeouts, kick the ball away with little time remaining, and get to halftime with a nice lead.

Still, within this framework, there were some definite coaching problems, as has been pointed out numerous times.

A power back should have been carrying the ball on the offensive plays.

The punt coverage team needed to actually cover. Or else they could have just kicked it out of bounds to prevent a return at all.

The defense should have been in prevent mode, knowing that the only play that could hurt them was a long pass to the sideline. How the Dolphins only deep threat could have a step on our defensive backfield in that situation is hard to fathom.

Sometimes, but not me. The only time I feel I have a legitimate beef is when I question the call beforehand, particularly if it fails for the reasons I expected it to.

That's the way it should be. Hell I question calls that end up working. An OC can't be blamed for poor execution by the players. And on the other hand a bad call can be bailed out by great execution. It was hilarious when people were blaming McDaniels early on when the line was worse than a couple of cardboard cut outs.

Fixed it for you

The big one for me is when Slater, the dude that only goes deep, comes on to the field for a deep shot and somehow the other team isn't suppose to know this and fall for play action. It is starting to become this way with Tyms.

I can quote my buddy Dikembe on this...

COACHING NOT DO GOOD THERE END OF HALF ONE. RUN LITTLE SHAWN VERNINE THREE TIMES AND HAVE TO KICK. THEN WE NOT TACKLE LITTLE DOLPHIN AND LUCKY COMMIE DOLPHIN QB OH TANNEBAUM THROWS UP PRAYER AND GETS ANSWERED. NO GOOD FOR DIKEMBE, WHO HAVE NO APPETITE FOR WIFE'S HALFTIME GOAT KEBOBS AFTER THAT PLAY.

NEED TO COACH BETTER THERE.

DIKEMBE HELP. DIKEMBE BE THE NEW ERNIE ADDAMS AND WITH CLEVER STRATEGERY. BRING WIFE ALONG FOR TEAM POSTGAME GOAT KEBOBS. GOAT: IT IS WHATS FOR LUNCH.

Can we have an alternate game thread? Seriously, one where we can let out knee jerk reactions? Just say what's on your mind at the moment of delight or despair.
I really miss the days when I was out at the local pubs with my buddies.
The bars would be full of fans of many teams, all screaming obscenities or cheering in jubilation. I can't do that much anymore, being that many of us have moved, married..., you know, got old(er).
I like to release my pent up emotions during the game.
Even tho I'm very seldom called out on it, I like to criticize, be-och, piss and moan as well as praise, scream in glee. A place where no one's offended or pissed by your outbursts. I'm very serious. Would the mods, or posters in general, oppose that?.... Then the post game thread would be a great place for me to turn back to a "normal" person and discuss the game like, well a normal person. Just a thought.

Unless you wanted to have Bolden out there none of the other backs would have given you the flexibility that Vereen has. If Stork does his job on the draw play we have a nice gain and go immediately into a no huddle to try to get something out of the situation..

Can't do that with Blount/Gray.

If you put them in on second/third down it guarantees that Miami loads up even more and the results will most likely be the same.

The only thing that they could have done is a quick pass play and risk leaving Miami with a TO more.

I seriously think that people make this into a bigger issue than it is.
