Good read from Howe:

On Jones' play:
---
"That’s a heck of a sign for the Pats defense as it continues to establish momentum in the final weeks before the playoffs. Whether Jones made plays on his own — with 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and seven tackles — or helped others’ disruption, the explosive pass-rusher returned to form after missing six games with a hip injury that required crutches.

“My focus was just returning on the same pace as my team,” Jones said yesterday. “The team was playing great. For me to come back here and return on the same pace as them was good.”

Jones played 55-of-78 snaps against the Dolphins and torched the notion the Patriots would ease him back into the mix. Though the 2012 first-round pick typically plays close to every snap of every game, his usage Sunday was emblematic of a high-end asset with few restrictions.

Jones played on the edge for 31 snaps and took 24 reps at an interior position, either on the nose or over the center. He rushed the passer 53 times and dropped into coverage twice, the first of which led to his bone-rattling hit on receiver Jarvis Landry after a 5-yard catch. Jones also was on the field for all 16 third downs and 4-of-5 fourth downs, which proved the Pats wanted him in the mix for the most crucial situations."

Great seeing him back in the line-up, but more importantly it's terrific to see that he looks healthy, which considering the outlook a while back is definitely a pleasant surprise.

Part of me wonders that if he ends up being 100% for the postseason if this will end up being a blessing for him in terms of being fresher when the playoffs begin. But if nothing else, definitely good to have him back.

Great stuff! I think my favorite part is him saying he wanted to come back on the same pace as his teammates. He knows that the defense is rolling right now, and while some players might let their pride force them back too early to be a part of that, he recognizes that unless he's ready to contribute at that level he's better off not upsetting the apple cart. It's a good sign of maturity for this kid IMO.

The Pats have had a habit of rushing players back and then having them struggle. That happened after Mayo's MCL sprain in 2009. It may have been a factor with Gronk in 2012. In this case, it seems like they were fairly conservative, and Jones looked more explosive than he did before the injury. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this ends up being the case, and also that it will play out this way with Dominique Easley next year.

It looks like we ended up with pretty much the definition of a best case scenario for the entire situation.

He got back healthy in time to get some snaps in the last few games. We didn't suffer any (major) seeding setbacks. The backups got extensive playtime and we all know what a premium gametime experience in this league is. And above all, they all performed beyond expectations.

All in all, I seriously don't see how this could have gone any better. One could argue that while a lot of teams got weaker during December due to injuries or age catching up we actually improved further. I am excited.

Chung returned a little fast in 2010 as well, which may have factored into how long they kept him out in 2011.

Either NE has changed course or they finally have a deep enough roster to allow them to be more patient.

Note that the Patriots no longer employ Dr Gill...

Ayers' play bought them some time.......

The sad thing about Jones' injury is that if he played the entire year, he might have been in the discussion to be one of the finalists to be completely blown out by JJ Watt for DPOY.

Maybe if he had been fully healthy, though I'm not sure whether the hip may have been hindering him. Hightower outplayed him this season, even before he missed 6 straight games.

Having traded for the right player when he became available bought the time. Credit where credit is due..

Wrong.....the player not the trade.....see Albert Haynesworth

I don't agree, I think BB has always been conservative and rarely rushes players back.

Yeah whatever.. you sound like one of those asshats that blame any thing that goes wrong on offense on a particular OC but give no credit for the hundreds of things that actually work out..

It was a brilliant move, and we created our own lucky situation by going for it..

Hate to sound like an overprotective, coddling parent at a U-8 soccer game but I hope he didn't try and do too much last Sunday. I want CJ 100% come playoff time.

I heard him interviewed and he said that it was up to the doctors when he returned. He just worked hard and waited for the okay. Definitely a mature kid and it's great to have him back.

And you just sound like an asshat

It worked out because he played well......

It appeared it was possible for him to play against the chargers..... Maybe that was them playing it safe
