Cortland Finnegan calls out Tom Brady "he must be dreaming"

I must admit to always liking Finnegan. I thought his comments were funny. He is a major PITA too. And not a bad second CB at all.

I don't understand how these players have such a false sense of reality. You aren't good. Shut up
What exactly is the "false sense of reality" you refer too?
Are players on .500 teams unworthy of opinion?
Is saying you want to play "forever" a true sense of reality?

He is an idiot. If he played liked he talked, the dolphools would have beaten the pack.

Brain still rattled from those andre johnson blows. His words mean nothing.

Now this is a blindside hit.

Deservedly so...

Brady will be playing in the NFL for years after Finnegan's out of the league. Of course, I think he has 1-2 years at most, since he's closing in on JAG territory, so that might not be saying much.

Unless Brady tires of the yearly beating he will be playing for quite some time to come. His arm is as strong as it has ever been and he really is a better QB now than he was in his mid twenties. With the game moving towards complex sub packages as the new "base" the value of the smartest and most experienced QBs will only go up , And they don't get any smarter or more experienced than Brady. As long as his arm strength and accuracy hold up he will be playing QB for the Patriots, and I will wait until I actually see deterioration before considering whether the end is coming. Age alone is not a factor.

I don't think it'll be his arm strength that does him in. I think that when something does inevitably go, it'll be his ability to recover from one Sunday's beating before the next Sunday. I fully expect that he'll be mentally and physically able to play a single game well into his mid-late 40s, but there will come a point where he won't be able to play a game every week anymore.

That seems to be the recurring theme with all of the greats as they age, across pretty much all sports. Eventually your body can't recover fast enough to hold up to the grind. I do think Brady will push that day further out into the future than anyone has managed to before him, but eventually he'll hit that wall too. Hopefully that's 5+ years out, though.

I don't think Finnegan said anything bad, and I don't understand why anyone's really that offended by what he said.

How many QB's in NFL history have played into their mid 40's? The list is very small.

How many have played good starting quality football into their mid 40's? The list is pretty much non existent. Maybe you could throw Blanda and Warren Moon in there.

While Brady is the GOAT, and I won't say he can't do it, because he's Tom Brady, I won't doubt him when he says he wants to do something. But he is human like everybody else, age is the one thing that even the greatest players of all time can't escape.

He's talking about Brady playing to 40 and beyond. No matter how good a player is if they've been in the NFL until they're 30 they're certainly going to have an idea about the type of punishment their body is taking.

I don't think the guy's talking ****, but whatever. It's a player from another team talking about our QB so unless it's a nonstop verbal **** sucking you guys are going to be super offended.
In their defense, Cortland Finnegan is a total douchebag.

I'm in better shape at 41 than I was at 31.

Also, many more people want to hit me these days.
I laughed out loud at the last sentence. There's no question Brady is in great shape and I would love to see him play at this level well into his 40's. But not many quarterbacks have done that. You can pretty much count them on one hand. Until I see Brady do it, sadly, Finnegan has a point. History is not on Brady's side as more often than not, quarterbacks fall off when they get to that point.

Now, all that being said, Brady is probably the most cerebral quarterback in NFL history. The mental aspect is a very large part of his game and it's the reason why he's still the best in the game right now. As long as his physical gifts don't wear out and as long as he's protected, he has as good a chance as anyone to do what Favre and a few others have. Fingers crossed.

That would explain his frequent and unpleasant discharges.

Did anyone read what he actually said?

Phil Simms a couple years ago, talking about Favre, said that even at 50 he felt he (Simms) could make all the throws and reads. It was just getting hit that was the problem.
