Chances Revis Stays

You've got acting like a jackass down perfectly.

So with your experience and expertise in these situations, how is this one going to work out?
It ends with me putting you on ignore.

They could franchise McCourty for around 8 M for one year.
The franchise tag for a safety next year is likely to be at least $9.5m. It will be 6.713% of the league cap number, whatever it ends up being. The higher the cap, the higher the tag cost

Anyone who freaks out after reading that piece has too much on her/his mind.

Still, how hard is it to throw in "I like playing here".

Thank you. I was quoting the approximate figure provided by Albert Breer today on the Gresh and Zo Show on 98.5. I'm guessing your figure is accurate.

He's said that before and may have for this piece, as well, but perhaps it didn't fit in with the author's agenda.

The thing about Revis I think a lot of people are missing because he is such an unusual player is Revis has supreme confidence in himself and his ability. What I mean by that is the deal he took in Tampa is the only one of it's kind I have ever seen. Pay me absolute top dollar but it does not have to be a long term commitment. There was no signing bonus no guaranteed money just pay me a million dollars a game. He did it again when he signed with NE pay me really well and I don't care about security because I can then go market my talent to whoever wants It. Reminds me a lot of Dion Sanders in that it would not surprise me if he plays for another team before he hangs them up. I expect the deal he signs to be shorter then everyone has been suggesting. I bet it's 2 years at 15 mil a year with very little signing bonus or guarantee money so that as soon as the pats are not willing to pay him top dollar he can find someone who is. Now because he likes it here and he likes winning there is a small discount cuz a team like TB would have to pay 16-17.

This strategy works if he can remain one of the best corners in the game. However, at some point father time will catch up to him and it may be in his best interest to sign a longer contract in the near future.

If Revis' professionalism matches that of Tom Brady's, who is to say he won't continue to perform well into his thirties?

If the patriots could make Wilfork one of the highest paid DT's, Gronkowski the highest paid TE(next year I believe he will be at 15million) and Mankins the highest paid at his position then I dont understand why some believe they wouldnt make Revis the highest paid CB.

they pay for what they believe to be special talent. and revis is special talent. the guys they dont pay are players who are "good" but not "great" or players who they feel are at their end...ie welker who looks about cooked.

If you read jets boards or broncos forums ect they all say....Revis won't stay..pats never pay...yet they have NO idea what they are talking about because when the pats find talent...they pay like the players you said. Paid AH a TON Gronk a TON. If you are top of your position..they will open their wallets...and for a guy that makes this D that much better? Back up the dump truck and pay him for 3 more years

The Patriots are perceived as "cheap" because they don't overpay for scrubs ala Mike Wallace like Miami did a few years back.

I think both stays.

Belichick pays for elite players while they are still elite (Brady, Seymour, Moss, Wilfork) . So unless someone offers Revis stupid money, the Pats will re-sign him.

Stupid $$$$$ Revis would be a fool if he didn't test the open market. I would not like to see the Patriots backfield without him. Best CB in Football worth evey $$$$ coming to him.

Its a question of priorities . If they think he can be replaced without a big drop-off they will let him go. I believe based on history that they know they cant. So they will cut a deal laden with money up front and incentives. I think a shut down corner is a necessity if you want to win it all. At this point in time I think they know this. For years they have failed with sub par corners.

They better not let him get to FA. We havent had a player like this since Ty Law. Open up your wallets!! I think a 4 year deal, 14-16 mil annually with 45 mil in guaranteed money should do the trick!

Exactly look at what A. Talaib got in gurantees and he's half the player Revis is on a good day.

Darrelle Revis believes he’s in the peak of his career: in that sweet spot where talent and knowledge collide. Ask any receiver who Revis has followed this year, and none of them will or have said that his skills are eroding. At 29 years old, Revis is probably still a couple years away from age catching up to foot speed and agility. The All-Pro cornerback already is planning for the future, however, by putting in extra time studying opponents’ tendencies. “I think where I’m at now, I think I’m a better player than I was a couple years ago, just by the growth as a player,” Revis said Thursday. “Just growing in this league. Just continue to stay consistent with my studies and doing what I do as a player.

“I think one is God-given talent, two is just studying, man, just being the best I can,” Revis said. “Just studying offenses and formations and receivers. Just having a knack for it, to figure out tells or tendencies that the opponents that we play. It might be a (sickness) to it, or maybe competition and just compete at a high level. That’s just what I try to do.” Gronk is right. Revis looks so natural at his position that sometimes it looks as if he’s not even trying. Then, when the ball gets thrown his way, it becomes increasingly obvious that he has his receiver right where he wants him. Revis has allowed just 34 catches on 74 targets for 471 yards with two touchdowns. He’s intercepted two passes, and two more of his targets have been picked off by teammates.

PAY HIM THE $$$$$

Stupid $$$$$ Revis would be a fool if he didn't test the open market.

And I think Belichick would be a fool if he allowed him to hit free agency. The Pats have to make a decision on the second year option prior to that (obviously).

They either work out an extension, which the Pats obviously want to do, or they bite the bullet and accept the 20m dollar year two option. Not only would it guarantee Revis being here through March of 2016, but it'd also give the team another 12-13 months (since it'd be done in Feb.) to work out a longer term deal.

Either way, if they allow him to field other offers in free agency they are morons. He's already stated that he doesn't need to be the highest paid CB in football, just as long as his new deal allows him to be in the mix for the top few players at his position.

I think free agency is a moot point, if they release him to become a free agent it means he's gone. They either work out the extension or pay him the full amount due. A release means he's playing elsewhere next season.
