Chances Revis Stays

I don't think other teams will get the chance to offer $$ because they will lock him up before FA starts..

Im not sure about that.. Revis is a mercenary, he has no loyalty to the Patriots. I'm sure he likes playing here but I'm also sure he likes money even more. He knows they either have to pay him that enormous salary next year or cut him... either way he wins, because if they just pay him he laughs all the way to the bank and if they cut him then he has his pick of the litter in free agency and can negotiate with anyone.

He has no incentive to agree to restructure/extend his current deal unless the Pats make a very top of the market offer that he just can't refuse. He also has Ty Law as a mentor, and Law is all about the money and has been giving him advice on how to approach contracts.

The one thing these athletes never seem to understand is that by being on a big market team that is competing each year for Super Bowls increases their earning potential by A LOT through endorsements and things. If your legacy is to just make the most out of a contract as humanly possible, that is a more short sighted approach but is one that Revis has shown he is comfortable with in nearly every single contract negotiation he has been in.

I bet David Givens regrets taking a little more money to go play for the Titans... you think he was in a lot of commercials as a member of the Titans? Nope... he fell into complete mediocrity and was eventually out of the league, all for a little bit more money.. he could have actually made more just from a longevity stand point.. even if he was making less money per year on the Patriots, he would have played for more years in the league so his total earnings would have been higher.

I don't expect Revis to have a soft spot for the Pats and give them any sort of deals.. he has all the negotiating power on his side and doesn't have to budge an inch.. which I think he will take full advantage of.

I really think the old Mevis is gone. If he was still here he wouldn't be with the pats right now. He would be with CLE or another suck team because they could have and would have offered more..OAK ect.

Times change. Winning changes people. And i think when we hoist that trophy..he will see that :D

Would Revis take 5/75? Should the Pats offer that much?

Miguel posted earlier..if it's a deal that goes past '17..he is most likely gone

Will have to be 3 years IMO

Why do you think that though? It was just a year ago that he was the highest paid CB making $16M. Had a ehhh year ( by his standards) on a bad team. Pats got him at the right time.

I personally think he's gonna be here next year, but not because he's gonna take a discount. He's gonna want 14-15M, and quite frankly he deserves it. He's by far and away the best DB in the game. And right up there with Watt asthe most dominate defender in the league.

I want to see them make it work and keep both of them if they can. I'd be perfectly fine with them losing Nate Solder at this point because hes a serviceable left tackle but not a great one and shouldn't be paid top money to play the position when he isn't a top talent.

I want to see them restructure Mayo's deal, he should be open to that seeings how he's been taking some serious coin from them for 2 years being in rehab and the ice tub... Hes a great middle linebacker and if they can restructure his deal they can lower his salary cap hit and keep arguably the best linebacking core in the NFL together for a few more years.

I could care less if Ridley leaves.. hes good, but is not vital to their success. RB is one of the most easy positions to replace unless you have one of those rare talents like Marshawn Lynch, Adrian Peterson, Matt Forte or Jamaal Charles.. but Ridley isn't even close to one of those guys.

I'd like to see them keep Vereen, and I just can't imagine him being able to get a whole lot out of free agency... his stats have been pretty average at best and he was injured for 3 straight years in a row.. what team is going to break the bank on him? He'll probably get Danny Woodhead type money, and I'd be ok with that because hes built better than Woodhead and younger.

Develin won't command a lot, hes a fullback which is a very under-utilized position in the NFL these days so its just a matter of him wanting to stay or not.

Bolden will be gone, hes a JAG and can very easily be replaced.

Branch I don't see getting a ton of money.. they picked him up off the scrap heap mid season and hes been playing well, but not well enough to demand crazy money.

Casillas has been playing well, but not top money well

Ayers has been performing as well, but I can't see him breaking the bank either.

They could structure a lot of these deals so that the bigger hits come in a few years when Wilfork will be off the books. They can't keep everyone, but I'd rather have McCourty over Ayers + Casillas + Branch combined.

As I said before, I don't think they can spend more than 20M on 2 DBs.....it would be nice to have them both, but McCourty is not worth as much with revis and browner as your corners

What basis do you have to make this comment? Without McCourty, teams should methodically attack the Patriots between the seams.

You do not let a top 3 player at his position get up and leave because you have good players in other positions. It's a nonsensical approach that would considerably weaken the secondary.

Oh 14-15 mill is fine by me..worth it

Just to play the devils advocate here. if i am Revis's agent here are my cards: You already owe me $5mil garanteed if cut or $20M next year if i stay.

Do i think i can get $15M per year + on the free market afetr putting in a top season with a very visable team? Yes i do. That means that i believe that i can get at least $20M next season whether i stay with the patriots or not.

Why would i not go sign somewhere else? If they are offering me the exact same money as the pats i am still $5million richer thsn if i stayed. There is litterally no insentive to stay here other than. "Do i like the environment and winning enough to forego $5m?". Hopefully he does but that is not his history, he has followed the path on maxamising his value.

If i was a betting man i'd honestly put it at 40/60 favoring Revis leaving. Hopefully we keep him but we'll see.

It's called a salary cap.....so you're saying pay market for the two of them. To do that, where's the money going to come from?

You act like there no decision to be made.....cut solder? Cut Wendell? Don't resign Connolly? Just plug in 3 nobodies at the minimum? LOL.....ya that'll work

Just walk around and tell people to take paycuts?

The consensus seems that revis will be 14-15M....what do you give McCourty?

I'm listening, but there are plenty of others that if they are allowed to walk, having these 2 won't matter.

Yes....McCourty is good, but now he's a centerfielder

I think the whole "Mevis" "All he wants is money" is grossly exaggerated

No, I'm not being silly and pretending McCourty is easily replaced and shouldn't be paid simply because the Patriots are working within the constraints of the salary cap.

The Patriots manage to restructure contracts and move around money on a yearly basis. You're also forgetting that the cap appears to be significantly increasing in the coming years.

They could franchise McCourty for around 8 M for one year.

You are being silly for thinking they'll spend 22-23M for half of a secondary.....they won't

Unless you think it should come at the expense of the OL and LBs.

I wish you would stop with this ********. The Patriots pay players they want to keep. Get that through your head.

No, I don't know it all. As my exposure to the world continues to increase, it's apparent to me just how little I actually know. What I do know is how to sit down and observe the moves a team makes and how to apply trends to future dealings.

You've got acting like a jackass down perfectly.

So with your experience and expertise in these situations, how is this one going to work out?
