Will these Browner penalites become a factor in the postseason?

I mean he is good for 3-4 first downs just on him alone per game. I know he won't and he can't change his style. But will it cost the pats? Hasn't seem to this year at all. I just hope this PS it will have little effect like the reg season...

I think once the playoffs start and they let them play, browner will become even better. Because he will be allowed to play. But I would like him to try and be less obvious on contact if it's a crucial play, unless the refs let them play

I think the defense will only get better and more potent, because usually refs let them play in the playoffs. So the pats can get more aggressive, and hopefully the offense keeps scoring lots of points

I just don't see where people are saying..they will let the play...the league has told them to pretty much call everything and this is how it's going to be. Now it may change in a year or two..but not this season

Yes, but he's the best option so we'll just have to live with it. So far, against some terrific passing offenses, he has been a healthy net positive even with the calls. Unless they start calling even more penalties, I see no reason to think that will change.

It's happens every year. Defense can play more like a defense in the post season. Refs will swallow their whistles. They always do because they don't want to change the game. It's just what naturally happens.

Hopefully they call fewer penalties in the playoffs. That said, all his jerseys look like this right now...

I don't think it will be an issue in the postseason because the referees are notorious for swallowing their whistles amidst some of the most blatant of infractions that need no belaboring here.

I really hate how the rule book tends to go out the window in the playoffs when you aren't playing a Peyton Manning led team. Either don't call ticky tacky stuff all year or call it how you do doing the regular season all the time. Sucks teams like the Ravens and Seahawks can just hold hold hold in the playoffs. Glad we've finally put together a similar secondary. They can't flag you every play. Browner should attempt to be more subtle about contact at least like Revis though.

For reference, in 2011- Browner's ProBowl year, he was flagged for 19 penalties. In 2012 it was 10 in 12 games. Him being penalized a ton is not new.

In the 2012 playoffs w / vs WASH he was flagged once for illegal contact. Vs ATL he was not flagged (Sherman was pinched 3 times! LOL).

So...will Browner get flagged? Maybe. He was before.

Guess where the finalist in the last two super bowls were ranked in penalties committed.
Seattle #1, Denver top 5
Baltimore # 1 , San Fran top 5

The hand wringing about penalties is blown out of proportion.

I don't want Browner to change a thing.

If it was going to cost us at anytime it would have been the bogus call he got against SD that wiped away a TD, and the team responded just fine.

this year has been like NOTHING in years pasts with flags

Yep, what are the opportunity costs of playing penalty free football as opposed to aggressively pushing the envelope and drawing more flags? I’ll accept more flags for good aggressive football, as long as risk/reward is factored in and stupid penalties are limited…disciplined aggression.

3-4 first downs is worst case scenario, which we saw this past week. Realistically, it's 1-2 per week on average. And sure, they'll be a factor in the sense that every play is a factor, and every first down matters. But you have to look at the positive as well as the negative. As long as the good significantly outweighs the bad (which it does), keeping him on the field is a no-brainer IMO.

I would much, much rather that the secondary take a few penalties while roughing up receivers, making guys afraid to go over the middle, and forcing QBs to fit throws into tight windows than watch quarterbacks march up and down the field while lesser corners give up easier throws without committing penalties.

I'm not sure that there's a middle ground between the two anymore, with this year's new holding emphasis. So if surrendering some first downs via penalty is now an inevitable byproduct of playing any kind of coverage that makes the offense's life difficult, then I'll take it.

Trust me..i don't want him to change one bit and i bet bill doesn't either....(well maybe a tad ;) )

I think San Fransico fans would disagree with you.

I do not actually have a problem with the penalties because I think Browner sets a tone that overall wins out. They may have 2-3 penalties but his presence causes WRs to proceed with caution and throws them off routes, causes drops, etc.
