Dolphins: Pats used illegal formaton. Sending grievance to NFL?

Man I feel for the dolphins, they need this bad. I can just picture them in the future, "you, you remember that time when we should have been better than the patriots for a whole half? and how we should have lost to them by only 18 points and not 28 in foxboro? That was awesome."

Just for kicks I scanned the Miami Dolphins page on the Miami Herald's website. Their hometown newspaper doesn't mention a peep about the "illegal formation." Interesting...

Sorry to sidetrack this thread, but I wish there was an ignore thread button just for anything to do with anything that Ben Volin said. It's amazing that he could acquire a job covering the New England Patriots for the Boston Globe.

I don't make a habit of saying insulting things about our own beat guys, but when I do, it's about Ben Volin. Because he's really kind of stupid.

Interesting, when I go to either the Miami Herald or Sun Sentinel I don't find anything about this story. The only person that seems to be interested in making a big deal about this is Ben Volin. Volin grew up in Florida and was a Dolphins beat writer for several years, and discounts responses to him that Collins was off the line.

He also tweeted out a picture of what he believes was a missed PI call on Browner. I didn't see any mention from him of what I think was a missed block in the back call on the long punt return that set up Miami's only TD of the game.

Because Volin is a dolphins homer

Because it's the globe which has a bias against the Pats.

Ben Volin is such a huge downgrade from Greg Bedard & Ian Rapoport, how could they get an appointment so wrong?

With nobody else seemingly mentioning this at all it could just be another case of Volin making up crap for attention. Has he ever got a scoop right? Total hack, not worth the time of day to read anything he has.

Or the fact that Miami's second FG came after an indefensible DPI call on Browner. Shocking!

Which the (Miami?) announcers said was a perfect call, completely missing that the WR was pulling on Browner's shirt the whole time.

Such a Dolphins thing to do. And **** like this is why they're such a perpetually losing franchise.

Pretty sad that they're trying to argue Collins was lined up as a DL, when screenshots like htis one exist:

They're just clearly wrong and being sore losers about it. And Volin appears to be leading the charge, what with his commentary that "Collins' feet appear to be within the DLs feet". Uh... no they don't, you ****ing idiot. Go watch a replay. When will the Globe just fire this incompetent clown, already?

Rapoport wasn't even good, and I still agree. Volin is the worst we've had since Tomase. Although to be fair, without him we wouldn't be getting updates on the status of the knee that Hightower never injured in the first place.

The Dolphins started to biatch about it immediately after the play. I had little doubt they would complain to the league about it.

I remember what BB said now, but I believe it was originally credited to Paul Brown.. "when you win say nothing, when you lose say less."

It looks to me that he's close to but not past the point that the rule permits. If a closer review of the images reveals that he was too close, then he was too close. It is what it is. Successful teams play the game aggressively, right up to the limits of the rules. Sometimes they cross the limits. If that happened, the Pats will get a slap on the wrist. Deal with it.

While the Dolphins could try to argue that the play had an effect on the "momentum" of the game, it's pretty hard to sustain that argument when you consider that they didn't put up a single point in the second half.

Can you, or anyone else, enlighten me as to why the Patriots would get " a slap on the wrist" or any other sanction after the fact? Isn't the officiating crew responsible for the error if, in fact, it occurred? What am I missing?

They should send video to the NFL of Joe Philbin's "Deer in the Headlights" look in the second half! Lol!

The league has, in the past, acknowledged official's errors. So, if they concluded that the play had been miscalled, it would probably be more accurate to describe it as a "slap on the officials' wrists," not the Pats'.
