So extremely blessed to be apart of such a first class organization, love my team and will fight and battle alongside these guys anywhere, anytime and any place! @patriots #BeastOfTheEAST #WeRunTheEast #factsOnly

It's about time they started utilizing both of the backs (Gray and Blount). MY theory is go with both, then go with the hot hand. Today that was Gray.

I think down the stretch Gray and Blount could end up being what the Steelers wanted Bell and Blount to be before the season started. (Not that they're complaining about what Bell is giving them by any means.)

I like Gray and the Gray story (excluding him being in the doghouse), however, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Froob is precisely correct in that the sample size on Gray is too small to conclude his production is likely to remain high (Gray remains more of an unknown). On the other hand Blount's sample size is big enough to determine his 'likelihood of production'.
As my memory recalls, Blount also had some poor running performances in '13. Yet he would rip one off here and there, and have a monster game now and again.

One could argue the running game the last two weeks mostly has not been good all around. Some of it might be due to defense's 'playing up', some of it (I'm sure) was poor running by Blount (possible rust?), and some of it was OL blocking issues (several video replays revealed atrociously bad missed blocks). Let's see what Blount can do when the OL formations prior to GB return (meaning when Fleming is back). If Blount flounders in the next two games with Fleming back yet Gray's lesser amount of carries are fruitful, yea it's probably time to up Gray's carries and lessen Blount's carries. But for the time being 'the guy' should remain Blount (and for god's sake please no more with the Vereen runs up the middle:))

I tell ya what, a big time game with serious playoff implications on the line, the Patriots run game struggling, Gray comes in to inject life into the run game. Some of his runs weren't big holes, he made definite yards after contact. The 3rd quarter offensive turn around definitely wasn't all Gray, however, it's obvious what effect a successful running dame does to the passing game. Gray had a definite hand on it..

Gray's sample remains too small (as what I posted above) to be sure he will continue to be productive. Yet if he can look potent against the Jets (and Blount looks unproductive), that small but growing sample be damned. It's Gray's time to be given the chance to see if he can be consistently productive.

Split the carries at first, figure out who the hot guy is today and ride that horse into the ground.

I definitely think that he's proven enough to justify more carries. Hopefully, Belichick agrees.

Gray hits the hole quicker than Blount. And he's pretty good at finding creases to run through. Blount has bigger play potential, but if the OL isn't getting much push, I think Gray's running style is better in that scenario.

I know from a rational level this may not make much sense, but in under-utilizing Gray for the last few weeks.....you are going to have a fresh, powerful and talented young running back (chomping at the bit to redeem himself) going into the playoffs.

Good post IMO when it comes to run-blocking the Pats have a very average offensive line. If they had a line that could A) physically overpower people and B) were quick enough to beat defenders to a spot and create angles consistently then Blount's pick the hole approach would be fine. The fact is that they do not. While for a big man, Blount is very good on his feet but he does not have great acceleration or change of direction from a dead stop.

We all have heard that Gray "can't get skinny" but he has good vision, hits the hole hard and with decisiveness.

There is nothing wrong with picking up 3-5 yards a carry every time.

I'm a Naval Aviation guy but have no trouble jumping into that Long Gray Line. ;)

I think a lot of people can serve to jump off the gray clown car. That said, I would like to see him get more carries simply so we (fans) can see what we have in him. I don't think he is anything that special, maybe just a slightly more talented runner in the mold of Bolden, maybe a BJGE-type with a little upside?

You can't really tell right now. His snaps have been far too limited, with the huge majority coming against a garbage Indy run defense.
Gray played well yesterday. He has a little bit more to go but he seems more physically gifted than BJGE and Bolden. Faster to the hole..more power to him.

Bill must've had an epiphany at halftime that his petty, vindictive jihad against Jonas my Brother
is costing him the game. About damn time that he took his head outta his azz.

ATWE on Blount/Gray

Gray brings a downhill burst the other guys don't have. His ball security and short area power are questionable but his burst and ability to move laterally and get downhill is superior to Blount.... Blount is good but his plodding style takes him longer to get to and through holes that develop and close quickly.
