Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney underwent microfracture knee surgery on Monday and is expected to be sidelined nine months, per sources. This is a serious surgery and I have seen many players in the NBA never make it back and also Jake Ballard comes to mind in the NFL.

They had to take him based on talent, even though many doubters were out there. Just glad he isn't on our team.

I was one of the few who was not on the Clowney bandwagon, though I certainly wouldn't wish this kind of issue on anyone.

Da'Quan Bowers fell to the 2nd round in 2011 based on concerns about his knees and rumors that he might need microfracture surgery. He hasn't done much.

man....those surgeries are game changers

Reggie Bush and Colston had the same procedure and still did well. I think the procedure has improved in recent years

Not his fault if he busts then. How could they have known. Just bad luck.

Awful news - I was actually looking forward to him and Watt on the same DL (not against the Pats, of course!). The kid is (was) potentially a generational talent. This surgery makes it doubtful, though.

I think it's game over for him.

Have you read Merril Hodge's assessment of him? I'd be perfectly fine with trading the #1 pick to another team who pays me a King's ransom and get players I feel more comfortable with.

They should have listened to me. This draft pick is a rare instance where their management could have benefited from my irrational fear of clowns.

One of the worst surgeries to have. Some players come back to 100% or at least close. Others never come back. Jake Ballard's career was derailed by it.

Interesting thought, would you trade say a third or fourth round pick to Houston and take a shot on Clowney making a comeback. I'm not saying Houston would do it but who knows.

Not really they could have taken Mack. I would have taken Mack.

Cherilus also echoed Ryan’s description of the rehab process as long and grueling.
“The doctor said, ‘I’d be surprised if you ever play again'” Cherilus said. “I was like, ‘My God.’ But I gave it a try. We did rehab for nine straight months. Three to five hours in the morning and then I’d come back and do some more later. Think about that.”

Before the rehab, the player has to spend plenty of time off the leg.

“You see my leg right here?” Cherilus said. “Imagine putting this on crutches for 10 weeks. You lose everything. The whole leg was dumb. I couldn’t even walk. We had to teach the leg to do everything all over again: Taking off, cutting, everything.”

So Clowney is screwed in two ways. He’ll have to work hard to get the leg back to where it was. And then he’ll have to subject the knee to the explosion that those leg muscles will create.

Via PFT. SOunds absolutely brutal. Like he said it's going to be hard for him to get that explosion back
