Jamie Collins vs the Chargers

At this point I can't say I'd rather have a healthy jerod mayo on the field over Collins or hightower. If this were even just 5 years ago where our base defense was actually a base defense then absolutely we get mayo resigned. But in this day and age two's a company, three's a crowd as far as star linebackers go. If we can get casillas and Ayers signed for less or similar money than mayo will accept, I'd prefer to say goodbye to mayo. This could just be me being a prisoner of the moment and looking at how the D (specifically casillas and ayers) looked in one game without Mayo or even HT. Also I have no idea what the cap implications are of cutting Mayo.

Tavon Wilson's pick six in garbage time vs the Ravens justified his pick in my book. So our 2nd round draft picks last few years aren't looking too bad aside from Dobson.
Not to mention his tackle on fourth down against SD that stopped the guy dead in his tracks one yard short of the first down, ending the game.

I have a fair degree of confidence that Bill can figure out a constructive way to use Mayo if the finances work. ;)

The kids got everything, a few years in the league and he will be a pro bowl LB

Collins is a great athlete he brings a lot to the team, however I feel his tackling is a big let down and his taking on blocks so it may be a physicality thing. That is something that he can improve on though as well as getting away with it by simply being able to read the game well, this allows him to get to the spot faster stuff like using the RB out of bounds I'd much prefer to see him wrap up and take the RB down. Hit with the shoulder at that speed not just push a guy. It seems like I'm getting on his case but I really like Collins it's the only gripe I have with him though.
funny, while he isn't the most consistent tackler, him, McCourty and Revis are the best open field tacklers on the team IMO. One of these is not like the other. Collins will only continue to improve though. We're talking about an athlete that has played on all 3 levels of defense and none of them long enough for him to become an instinctual player at the position. He still has to think a lot which is why I was shocked he played so well with the added responsibilities. The guy will be a top 10 defensive player in the league in a couple of years.

I agree his open field tackling is great the thing about open field tackles are that they can go for an extra few yards but stops a huge gain when he gets better at taking runners down at the point of contact more he can truly make the leap to the next level.

What this thread needs to do is beg Deus to comment on this topic so there is a definitive statement on this topic and everyone would be a complete idiot if they argued otherwise.
