Finally someone in the media is starting to ask if Manning is declining

You can have your numbers. What happened when he played in Foxboro in the windy conditions? What about the many people who actually watch film who have been saying, even last season, that the velocity on his passes has clearly dropped off. You probably think he's the G.O.A.T. too because of his video game numbers year after year. After everything you listed, he still has just one ring and they didn't win it all last season. Some people man, I swear, live and die by statistics. Good day, sir.
You guys focus on wobbly passes....I focus on the efficiency he places the ball in his receivers hands. His passes may be ugly, but they sure are accurate.
Velocity???? Do inaccurate fast balls get QBs style points from the experts. No wonder I don't watch experts on TV.
GOAT?? I don't usually waste too much time wrapping my head around personal opinions....especially at such a subjective position reliant on so many exterior factors. Greatest passer....greatest QB.....two different conversations in my view. The one question I would dwell on the most would definitely be....shouldn't the GOAT be able to make all the throws? On this point I view Brady as limited. JMO.

And since you are telling me Championships is the end all determining factor....I guess I must hand the GOAT label to the old man I happened to be playing golf with years ago at an outing. Didn't know who "Otto" was at the time until Ted Williams came cruising down the 16th fairway in the wrong direction so he could find his old buddy Otto Graham... 7 time champion... no statistics necessary to boost this guy. There you go......Otto ticks all your boxes

More like were. In recent weeks, his passes have been ugly and INACCURATE.

Who cares what happened in Foxboro? We beat them last year and it didn't mean a damn. If we don't get to the Super Bowl this year and they miraculously do, this year's meeting won't mean a damn as well.

Person A has had repeated after repeated praise. Person A is portrayed (rightly or wrongly) as a very likeable person. Person A always takes the blame for any bad results, Person A always spreads the wealth around with good results (whether true or untrue). They are a media darling.
Person B has mixed bag between praise and criticism, possibly even mostly criticism. Person B is portrayed (frequently wrongly) as stuck up, or unfriendly, or less than likeable. They are a media target.

The Specific Situation; Person A and Person B yells at one of their teammates in the exact same way and in the exact same situation for the exact same thing. So how will media frame the story behind the yelling? Person A was motivating and/or encouraging his teammate. Person B was probably being an unsportsmanlike jerk. In other words two people can act/react exactly the same, however, the liked person gets the positive spin, the less than liked person gets uncertain/negative spin.

This can become so pervasive with a media darling (Brett Favre) who has had so much praise heaped on him for so long, it becomes taboo to question that media created sainthood. It could even puts one's media job in a bit of uncertainty to buck that perpetual 'positive spin' media darling machine. We see this kind of thing with politicians, actors, sports stars, celebrities. Media decides, without regard to fact frequently, whether you will walk on water with a halo around you or you have a set of horns. It's just how it works with these sickening media @$$clowns/media machine....

And that's what makes last year's Skippy McD-caused loss to the Doofins so damn infuriating: even without Gronk, Mayo, Wilfork etc., I'll forever believe that there was no way that Payaton comes to Foxborough for the AFCC and leaves a winner.

Is Person B supposed to be Brady? Because I don't think he's portrayed as unfriendly, or stuck up or is a media target. He just doesn't get as much praise as Manning does. It's certainly true that it's odd Manning gets a complete pass for his incident in college while being portrayed as Mr. All-American Values, when really, Brady comes a lot close to epitomizing those values over the course of his whole career.

TL;DR I think the issue is excessive praise for Manning rather than lack of praise for Brady. I'm sure a lot of the country is sick of both of them.

It's simply amazing how you come up with ignorant post after ignorant post.

You cant remember worse throws because there haven't been any. Thank you for making my point.
And there haven't been many bad throws like that over his career. And I'm sure there are some that I cant remember too.
My point was they do happen but they seem to happen with more frequency and on the road..
How about the int he threw against Miami while sitting on his ass a few years ago?

I love how the media never once mentioned the ducks he has been throwing all year and the past 3-4 games you can see it bad

Maybe the Fivehead needs to see Dr Frankenstein to have his neck re-adjusted.

Yeah, I just saw some of Peyton from the past three games, and anything over 20 yards was a moonshot, and they were /really/ inaccurate. I don't remember ever seeing him like this.

No it was not meant to be Brady (due to my reference of Person B yelling at a player on the sidelines, I see why that would appear I am speaking of Brady).
My general point is the media chooses its heroes and villains, and this anointing of hero or villain isn't necessarily based on being an actual hero or villain. Media loves a story where good and evil is well identified. They LOVE this actually. So what they frequently do is assist this Hero/Villain storyline by way of exaggerations, lies and repetition of who the hero( and villain) is.
An ugly consequence of this is, once a person is repeatedly and repeatedly framed as 'the good guy hero', any mediot who chooses to write negatively about this 'good guy hero' runs the risk of being looked down upon by the rest of the mediot industry (swimming against such a strong current -- I assume this isn't ideal for one's career).

IMHO Manning is one of the anointed heroes, one of the framed as a 'good guy hero' so often it isn't going to be bucked by many of the mediots. ((Fyi, I don't dislike Manning, however, I recognize the media's elevation of him is plainly exaggerated)).
An extreme example of this is, it seems, is Bill Cosby. There was lots of 'stuff' out there on him for many years, however, he is the 'good guy hero type'! Almost all Mediots didn't want to have anything to do with tarnishing his image.....

[quote=''Bill Belichick]Peyton Manning is great. I would not want anyone more at QB than Tom Brady

Words to that effect at a recent press conference.

Likewise, I'm not a Peyton hater - just prefer Tom

After the last 15 so years of constant battles with his Colts/Broncos teams, I feel it should be in our DNA to hate the guy.....But I still respect him ......

He's just not better than Brady!!!!!

So that in mind, here's a list of QB hits + sacks (the Pats are 11th in terms of QB hits + sacks); the last column is on a per-attempt basis; Brady is hit/sacked on 11% of his dropbacks, which is 9th in the league (Manning and the Broncos rank 2nd with hits on only 7% of pass attempts. Pretty remarkable for such an immobile QB).

EDIT: sorry for the terrible formatting, anyone know how to get this tabbed?

Wow. Are those secureID passcodes? Yikes!

I'd recommend taking a screenshot of the table you are trying to post and uploading the picture. Forum software typically cannot handle tabbing.

one theory circulating around is that elway is giving them the input like the 1998 season to lean more on the running game like they did with terrell davis then to help out manning.

Actually, I remember Al Michaels using the phrase "wobble ball" a few times a couple weeks ago.
