Darrelle Revis

Just pay this man.

I couldn't fathom the thought of having Dennard or Logan out there again for the whole game.

Revis playing great, except for that play at the end of the half where Nelson got a 50 yard TD on him...kind of cost the game, amongst other plays.

Serious question would you lose Mccourty for Revis?

No, Mccourty is priority 1 and Revis is in a very close 2nd as priority 2
Ghostkowksi would be priority 3 but I think they'll just franchise him

I've been watching the NFL since the 60's and I don't recall ever seeing a DB who could shut WRs right down the way he does. He did it to Randy Moss too.

Teams are still willing to open the vault to get him to play for them even for only one year. I never looked at the numbers but he probably made more with the one-year-rental strategy than he would have if he signed (and honored) any long term deals. He's so good and so confident in his ability that he can get away with it.

I wonder the chance of Revis doing another 1 year deal with the Pats next season?

No man is an island. But Revis is the exception. :)

Hes in the discussion but very tough to argue as passing rules have evolved so much over the last 40years.

Would be interesting to see HoFs like Adderley, Blount, Sanders, Woodson (Rod) handle WRs now..

Not likely. He wants job security. He even basically said it after the game. Said i could of stayed a jet..but moved around and still moved around but very comfortable here (in NE) He will want to stay in 1 place.

Except being beaten on a five yard inside crossing route should not lead to a 50 yard TD. Revis is responsible for about 5-10 yards. The safety help is responsible for the other 40.

Or if you think it was Revis's sole responsibility to cover one of the league's best wide receivers with absolutely no help anywhere, then that should be a testament to just how good Revis really is, considering that it has only happened once.

It almost like saying that since a player ran up the middle for 50 yards, Wilfork is responsible for the entire run since he didn't make the initial stop at the LOS.

so you never watched deion? deion is the greatest. revis is definitely top 5.

deion would shut down every one so bad in today's league. he never was a physical player anyway. he was a pretty boy who didn't rough you up. he just shadow you every step and use his freak athleticism to PD or INT whenever ball is thrown to him. and nobody really dared to throw to him for over a decade.

Yes I saw Sanders. Revis is better and even tackles runners. He just doesn't talk about himself.

Slater is a pretty important part of the team, If you disagree just look at the plays he made last night on special teams, bringing guys down on punt returns for huge net punts giving the pats even better field position.
I still can't believe there used to (probably still are) that prefer a mediocre wide out/special teamer over a special team ace in Slater. Specalist make a much bigger impact on the game than a mediocre wide out or linebacker.

Btw, speaking of Ty, do you guys think he'll make the HOF or will it be tough for him?

Deion wouldn't tackle, that's true. But, he could legitimately run stride for stride with anyone that has ever played, including Moss. Revis is fast, but not Deion fast. Also, it was even scarier throwing his way because he had a good chance of taking a mistake to the house. Ultimately, they are both first ballot HOFers and among the 10 best ever at their position.

The work Revis did on Keenan Allen was his best of the year. And yes, considering how dominant he's been, that's saying something

"No. Revis doesn't get any credit because the Chargers went into the game deciding not to throw his way so you can't really tell how he actually did"

you are crazy if you think revis is better than deion. i hate homerism like this. go check deion's stat. it's mindboggling. he basically shut everyone down. only time he gave few tds here and there were against HOFers.

deion stat 95-98

1995 -- 16-for-47, 158 yards, 0 TD (9 games)
1996 -- 22-for-46, 225 yards, 0 TD (16 games)
1997 -- 12-for-39, 159 yards, 0 TD (13 games)
1998 -- 20-for-42, 198 yards, 0 TD (11 games)

he was even better as a falcon and niners. and physically revis doesn't come close deion in terms of speed, size, fluid hips, and quickness in space. deion's speed is once in a life time kinda speed. his closing speed was not human.

what revis is better at deion, however, is revis is much more physical. deion doesn't like to get physical. but his supreme athleticism simply was enough to shut you down completely.

As much as I love McCourty, Revis is the superior player. He should be priority 1 with McCourty trailing at 2. The only reason to flip flop them would be the state of their commitment to the Patriots. Technically speaking, Revis will be on the books next season.
