The Patriots vs Chargers POST Game Thread

I must be the only one who recalls Matt Light looking far worse against Shaun Phillips and these same SD Chargers in 2010. He almost personally lost a game that NE had a turnover margin of 4-0 in. I don't recall anyone making a huge deal about how it was a harbinger of doom.

Solder opened with a terrible month. But so did the rest of the team, which we all agree isn't predictive any longer. He was a fine LT in 2012 and 2013, definitely top 10, which isn't that much of a stretch considering there are only 32 in the league. Not elite, but above average. He was pretty much the same guy during NE's winning streak as well.

I suppose it is possible that GB and SD have poked holes in his game that every defense will exploit from here on out, but isn't it equally possible that he just had a bad couple games? Why must judgement be passed based on two performances instead of his entire body of work?
SD and GB may have poked holes not specific to his game but maybe to this particular team. Aggressive blitzing with good man to man coverage seems to be the recipe to stop us. Of course someone has to do it so its not all that common. But this oline than the ones in the past doesnt seem to handle blitz pickup that well. In fact even without the blitz vs SD they had a 3 man rush with a 7 man protection get to hurry brady. Just inconsistent. Blitzing brady used to be a death wish. Maybe not with this year's oline.

It's certainly possible. Time will tell.

…and his regression in the past 2 games.
It's not all Solder's fault, of course; Connolly at LG also scares the crap outta me.
I would say that Vollmer at RT and Wendell at RG are the OL I have the most confidence in currently. In my opinion Solder is a franchise LT but he does struggle at times against speed pass rushers. Stork has been solid but he is a rookie so I do worry about him hitting a wall. I am not that high on Connolly at all personally.

This was on Edelman's long TD. Could've easily been called back! Solder's dumbass is going to KILL us down the stretch with awful blocking and holding/hands to the face penalties.

I suppose it was justice for the pick-6 called back after the Browner hit.

Or, you know, for the defender's hand to his face on two of the plays everybody is screaming at him for.

I think it's asking an awful lot of any left tackle in the 2014 era NFL to not get beat by speed rushers from time to time. With the amount of passing in today's game, a "shut down" left tackle would be future Hall of Famer. I don't think it's fair to hold Soldier to that standard. He's probably an above-average left tackle
