Irvin: Bill will beat you with his; beat you with yours and beat you with the players you released. Great coach.

Sanders: I would have loved to have played for him.

Peter King has a new video supplement to the MMQB column. Today he discussed the situations of Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh, and suggested that Payton could be closer to moving on from NO than people think. Pure speculation, but his point was that in his 9th season with the team, is Payton's message starting to lose it's impact? Harbaugh has clearly lost something in terms of his ability to motivate the 49ers effectively.

Meanwhile BB is in his 15th year with the Pats, and there is no sign of any diminishing effectiveness in his ability to get the team to execute his kind of football. For a team that "hates their coach", that's remarkable.

Irvin was plagiarizing/paraphrasing Bum Phillips' famous quote there. Dude could have at least attributed that and not passed it off as his own.

It's football, not some college course

I was kinda blown away by the admiration... what else did Irvin say? "Belichick is ~bad~... he's baaaad!"

> How about Marshall Faulk? Pouty face with a tinfoil hat on?

Despite all the anti-Patriots crap from Marshall, Edelman proved himself above all that: wrapping up his interview, Julian said to Faulk: "I'm a fan" then turning to Willie, "You *KNOW* I'm a big fan!"

I like how Deion didn't even want to hear Marshall's mouth when they cut to him and Willie.

Deion had a real moment of honesty when he said he wished he could have played for Bill; almost wistful. It wasn't totally noticeable, but Irvin agreed.

Just saying that I absolutely agree with you.

but. he has 2 things in his favor:
(1) Lots of turnover on the team that leads to the same message still being relatively fresh
(2) Key Veterans (Brady, Wilfork, ...) that have so bought into his believe that they are basically of the same mind (at this point). Though I imagine they say and do things in their own voice, but the message from BB is still being delivered (and probably before BB needs to address it anyhow)

optional (3). BB is always innovative and I'm sure that means while his end point is the same, he is very willing to adapt to new situations and approaches. His overall principal is to "NOT" get locked into one way of doing things with the possible exception that he will do whatever is needed to win (preparation, coaching, letting play/talent decide who starts, ...)

It's slightly OT: I've gotta say (and I may have said it here before), but whenever I hear a Jay Gruden press conference, I'm ever more thankful for BB and his "anti-social" approach to the media.

Deion and Irvin both know Marshall is not a fan of BB/Patriots. On top of both Deion and Irvin also seem to be no fans of Marshall either. They seem to go overboard with their Patriot praise in part to get under Marshall's skin. I love watching these guys after Patriot wins.

I've actually started to make a habit of tuning in after Patriot wins for this reason.

I think a lot of that has to do with the players he fills his team with. Maybe BB the GM is doing BB the coach some favors.

Well the QB was a 6th round pick
The best receiver was a 7th round converted QB
The best RB was just released by Pitt

They won despite not having Hightower and Jones and filling in were Ayers and Casillas...both unwanted by their prior teams. And both were key players.

You cannot make this stuff up

I think what he said was fine. That quote is common enough that most people would realize what he is doing without him having to say it.
