PatsFans FF League?

Strong opinions on this subject. I say teams that are even out of the playoffs have every right to keep trying to pick guys up and improve their team. I feel the teams at the top are there for a reason (strong drafting and pickups). Just because they're in the top four, to me, doesn't mean it should get easier for them. If you are weak at a position right now that isn't the fault of a losing team, in my opinion.

Improve for what purpose? It's not a keeper league, playoffs teams have been decided and it doesn't count towards W-L record. Like I said, doesn't matter now anyway.

Ive stated many times that this was my first FF league.. ever.

But how are we in the playoffs without the NFL being in the playoffs? Just force of record?

And Im sorry, after a craptastically underperforming season, Kaepernick putting up ONE point last week made me go out and replace him.

And I played one year in one league before this season. (That league, another league I'm in and the league I run all forbid non playoff team acquisitions during playoffs.)

This league is over next weekend. The league's playoffs are this weekend and the championship game next weekend. All FF leagues are done by the end of the NFL's regular season, most have 13 game regular seasons and 3 weeks of playoffs. Obviously with only 12 NFL teams making the playoffs (cut down to 8-4-2), nobody would be able to field their FF team if the fantasy season went through the playoffs.

And if Wilson gets you 25 points this week in a game that has no bearing on anything, a game that doesn't even count in the standings, what does that get you?

I've said my opinion on the subject, the league hasn't forbid it, so have at it.

Most FF leagues end before Week 17 since Week 17 can see some teams rest/briefly play their best players (who also happen to be FF stars).

ya as stated you can't have FF playoffs run during week 17 with lots of teams resting stars ect. Has to end week 16 or earlier

Had anybody let me know that it wasn't cool to pick people up off the waiver wire I wouldn't have done it.

There were a handful of posts complaining about people "not trying" so again, I thought I was doing the League good by not giving up on my team.

But thanks for making me feel like a smuck and not giving even the slightest nod or hint of graciousness for the possibility that maybe a first timer wouldn't be aware of this little nuance of FF sportmanship.

So again, please excuse me for not knowing there was such a thin line between "not trying hard enough" and "trying too hard".

And here you go, Russell Wilson is again available for those still deserving of having him. Have at him.

I sent you an email on Wednesday, the day of the waiver claim and didn't say anything else until I responded to you quoting me today other than asking BTM for clarification on this board. In that email, I recall acknowledging your first year player status, that you may not have known of any unwritten rule regarding non playoff teams picking up players and only asking you to consider putting Wilson back on the market as well as that whatever you decided to do was cool. If I'm wrong about any of this please feel free to share the contents of the email since I sent it through the league and am unable to retrieve a copy.

Releasing him today on Saturday doesn't help since he won't clear waivers until next Wednesday and will be unavailable for this weeks games.

no one pick up they players he dropped...why would you drop everyone?

Everyone paid to join the league. I really fail to see what the issue is. I have played fantasy football for many years and never heard of pickups/drops only being allowed for playoff teams at the end of the year.

Perhaps someone who paid to join the league might get some enjoyment still from making a good pickup to help their team win regardless of record.

And I think @dangerzone makes a good point; if you can't improve your team unless you're in the playoffs, what's the point of having anyone on your roster?

I've already said my opinion on the subject, that the league allows it, so do it if you have to do it.

The point DZ seems to be making is I'm taking my ball and going home. Other than that, him releasing all his players further bolsters the argument for restricting player add/drops to playoff teams during the playoffs. If I pick up Maclin now, would that be fair to the other teams?

So teams in the the champ game can't pick up a ton of top guys. No one is allowed to pick up who he dropped. He should have left his team as is and just let the game be played. I have NEVER [played in a leaguer where someone was out of it in the end...and dropped everyone. You just don't do it....

I have. Next year we instituted a rule in which rosters for non-playoff teams are locked when playoffs begin.

I have seen it. And he is making a point. Why bother having a team if he can't play anymore? Winning a championship shouldn't be easier than the regular season. So somebody in the consolation bracket picks up a player someone in the championship wanted, deal with it. Again, players didn't get to the championship because the league is easy. A losing team picking up a player shouldn't be used as a reason or excuse why someone didn't win.

Some people want to continue trying, me included, even though they're out of the running for the championship.

Was wilson his starting QB?

This should have been easy and now it's just a cluster with this BS. I need the change the rules big time next year....

No, he picked up Wilson off waivers on Wednesday, which set this whole thing off.

It's your league, you're within your rights to make a rule that goes into effect now (regarding non playoff teams waiver claims). It would be nice to get some clarification on the subject anyway. Hopefully everybody will respect it without feeling the need to sabotage the league.
