I'm at the airport in San Diego and people are still talking about how many Patriots fans were at Qualcomm Stadium last night.

Kudos to them for sure. I watched the game on the boob tube and it sounded like a home game. It was great to see all of them get rewarded with a HUGE Pats win.

Yeah, you could hear them chanting. I'm surprised the announcers didn't comment on it.

I'm not, they were ****ting on the patriots as early as the first chargers drive "That was such a late hit!" uhh no it wasn't

Not only was nothing mentioned on the NBC Broadcast, but the cameras studiously stayed away from crowd reaction shots during the game.

I've never seen that before.

Not to sound conspiratorial or anything, but I wonder if something came down from Madison Avenue to pointedly not make the San Diego franchise look bad on national television.

Nothing conspiratorial at all, Michaels and Collinsworth, while professional announcers are total schills for the NFL, rarely disagreeing with a call, I wouldn't expect them to point out that San Diego doesn't deserve their team.

Could hear chants of "Defense! DEFENSE!" when hometown Chargers had the ball
and later, "Brady! BRADY!" easily heard

Props to the folks from here who made the trip west

That was moronic Michaels. Collins worth left it alone.
So NOT a late hit.

I did notice at one point during the "Brady! Brady!" chants, they panned to Rivers on the sideline and he had this look on his face, like, "What the f**k? Are we in our home stadium?"...

Or maybe he was thinking, 'Why do I always suck against these guys?"

Not sure.

Tom Brady talked about the Patriots fans on WEEI this morning as well. He said it felt like a home game when he came out on the field. That's huge for the team. We should invade effing Kansas City the next time the Patriots play there. Only problem is who wants to spend a weekend in KC?

I've been a part of a few of those crowds at away UNC basketball games where we outnumbered the home team's fans. At the Palestra a few years ago, easily 2/3 of the fans were dressed in Carolina Blue and being very vocal. these college professors sitting in front of us turned around and asked us. "Who are you people?" We were speechless, of course, we'd never actually seen a college professor before.

It was great! Good work Patriots fan in southern California.

I am sitting in the San Diego airport waiting for my flight home. I was going to start a thread about this, but Will just post here.
1. I flew out on Saturday morning and Logan was full of pats fans flying out. Flew through Dallas and that flight also had a Ton of fans.
2. I stayed with an old friend who is affiliated with the Navy. on Saturday he got me on one of the Navy bases where there are two nuclear powered carriers. Almost as big as Vinces belly.
3. When we were walking around Sunday morning, on Mission Beach, pats fans far outnumbered charger fans judging by T-shirts and hats. We met a charger fan whose father runs the play clock for the charger games. He fulls in for his father when the father can't do it. Pretty interesting. They get reviewed after each game by the NFL. He said the place where they do the game clock really does not have a very good view. You would think it would be one of the best in the house. He also said years ago you could bring people up into the booth, but they cut that out.
4. Tailgating before the game was interesting. Again, tons of pats fans, both domestic and from the East Coast. Charger fans were unfailingly polite and good-natured.
5. We were in the very last row in the nosebleed section. I have sat in the very last row at the razor and trust me, QUALCOMM Stadium has better views from the top row. Our section was overwhelmingly pats fans.
6. One of those Pats chants you heard on TV? My buddy and I absolutely started it. All of the Pats fans in our section were giving us props.
7. We were debating all game as to the percentage of pats fans. Once the stadium started emptying out, it was pretty clear, we were close to half the stadium.
8. I had a cold and a sore throat the entire week, so I could not yell as much as I usually did. On the Edelman touchdown, all I could do was jump up-and-down with my hands straight up in the air, silently. In any context other then the football game I would've look like a total effing idiot.
9. Leaving the stadium at the end of the game, they have those big concrete circular drums for exits. By that time on the Pats fans were left.everyone was still yelling and cheering and the echo reverberating in that drum was just an awesome experience.
10. Even the San Diego fans in our section thought the browner penalty was ********.
My flight just got called. Signing off.

For anybody at the game, were there a lot of fist fights?

That's a very good observation. The announcers did discuss the lousy condition of Qualcomm and the fact that the owner was frustrated with his inability to get local support for a new stadium; i wasn't paying real close attention, but I believe they also mentioned the possibility that he would move the franchise.

I like Michaels and Collinsworth and enjoy their games more than any other broadcast teams.

i just think some coporate suits may have been involved.

They did allude to it during the kneel downs - lumping SD, Oakland and StL together as teams that "can leave their stadiums next year." They also mentioned that those 3 stadiums are pretty much the worst in the NFL (somewhat perpetuating the highly arrogant notion that cities + taxpayers ought to subsidize stadiums to the tune of billions of dollars in order to maintain the privilege of cheering for their team.)

Your point that they didn't mention the obvious lack of hometown team fans is well taken though. Chargers could've really used a raucous stadium last night as they fought for their playoff lives during a primetime game - fanbase = not invested enough.

None that i saw and to the contrary it seemed like there was a lot of security and the charger fans were cool.

One other note... In the my tailgate group was a guy who is a patsfan.com member who rarely posts....
Center55 ... Pick up your game! And thanks for that spaghetti dinner!

Maybe no fist fights because there weren't a lot of super testosterone hockey player fans at the game?
