didn't see any thread with SD media perspectives on the game and seemed like a couple decent articles out there (merge if I missed). Or add other urls/article quotes as you like, below is just one item I found intriguing: about NE. ... Discuss

. This isn't a vertical passing team by any means. Over the last month they average 5 attempts per game over 20 yards. Brady has the 3rd worst accuracy percentage on throws over 20 yards. The object should be to force him to throw deep and outside the numbers. He just doesn't seem to have the timing down with these receivers to connect on deep passes.

I am ok with forcing Brady to play deep. I think his struggles are somewhat based on the fact that he rarely gets to throw deep and thus don't really has the game time reps.

Give him a couple of those shots, let him get a feeling for the deep ball and he will carve them up deep as well.

This will be a lot like Indianapolis. If we know they aren't going to run we can play accordingly. then get the O to score the points.

The offense is very good, but could be better if it presented a bigger threat with the run and the deep pass. They go hand in hand to an extent because effective running forces the DBs/LBs to look in the backfield and cheat up, and without effective play action the OL has difficulty with protection on deep balls. The ability to hit the big play was one of the striking contrasts between the Pats and Packers on Sunday. They hit 2, we hit 0. Difference in the outcome.

eh SD fans are probably at the beach..i would be :)

Force us to throw deep? With what personnel can they take away everything within 20 yards of the scrimmage line??

Gronk, Lafell, Wright, and Edelman will all go over the middle. That's a luxury. You can find anyone to do a back shoulder or down-and-out and then duck out of bounds. We have guys that will attack the middle of the field. It's a damn big field.

The Chargers can't take away everything but the deep pass. Hopefully we have Fleming and can dust off the 6 linemen sets. Force them to commit 8 guys to the box, then pick them apart with play action.

Lol, and watch Tyms go for 10 receptions, 300 yards and 6 TD's?

I don't think so,................

Brady's deep passing woes are a bit skewed by that horrible performance in week one where he was the worst in the NFL since 2006 in passes over 15 yards in a single game.

I'm thinking that all TFB has to do is connect once, just once, deep and the whole Charger defensive plan goes out the window. If he can demonstrate a deep ball, then everything opens up. There's a saying the military uses when teaching strategy and tactics that "He who defends everything defends nothing." Basically it means that if you try and defend everywhere, then you become too thin all across the spectrum, weak everywhere.

San Diego is a good team. This game, more than any of the remaining 4, is the one which concerns me the most. I think Coach Belichick was very wise in keeping the team on the road. It not only acclimates them to the area, temps, etc, but also helps them bond through a shared experience via this road trip. It also keeps them focused on the game to hand, not like he doesn't do that anyway, but to my mind, this works well for such a young team.

I am a bit nervous, but maybe more "cautiously optimistic" about tonight's game. I wish it were being played earlier, because the wait is driving me nuts. :)

I would prefer that the Pats NOT throw deep as much as they do. It's just a recipe for a 3 and out.

Crummy football environment there, for sure. The stadium sucks and the Chargers have some of the worst fans in the league. Poor security, lots of fights. And if it rains they stay home. Good cheerleaders, though.

A steady diet of Blount and Gray with some wheel routes to Vereen......then Gronk, Edelman, Lafell and Wright to keep em off balance.

Did I leave anyone out :)

Oh yeah...Dobson...LOL

Can't wait to see the stands tonight..will be almost more pats fans then chargers fans. Easily worst fans in the NFL attendance wise. Denver goes there..denver home game...same with pats pretty much

Yup, and surprisingly, it's been that way for quite awhile. I'm not unhappy with seeing a preponderance of New England fans in the stands, but on the flip side. the San Diego Super Chargers deserve better than that from THEIR fans. They've had some great teams and great players, and that ought to count for something. You have to wonder how much management and the PR department has to do with the lack of fans.

Ah well. GO PATS! Let's get that 10th win tonight!

12 years ago when I still had elite sprint speed I was chased out of Balboa stadium after the Pats lost and I made some snarky remarks to the crowd.

I miss Bama, BrewGnat and Bill Beaulac.

Any other Patsfans at thom's tailgate? We're 200 (and like 1500 beers) strong, so I figure the chances are pretty decent

I remember those names! Have they all gone on to their rewards? :( Time really does fly...

Bama & BrewGnat are fine. Fear the worst about Bill.
