JJ Watt a better TE than Gronk?!?

This is one of those threads that usually pop up in the off season when we are all suffering from Football withdrawal....

But the writer has to get some clicks to justify their existence.. maybe a few more twitter followers and facebook likes.. the real measures of success.

I like Watt a lot, but by this logic William Perry would have been a much better running back than Walter Payton, if only he had been allowed to play the position full-time.

Color me as one who considers the Watt as goal line TE/FB "weapon" a bit of a meaningless gimmick, meant to pad his stats to boost his MVP credentials.

In the most recent game, they're on the 1 yard line. They have Foster - just give him the ball and watch him score no problem.

Let Watt's incredible defensive play speak for itself. He doesn't need to catch meaningless TD's on the 1 yard line in garbage time against the hapless Titans to prove he's a dominant, All Pro player.

Also - they'll really regret it if Watt is hurt on a play, like Seymour was. Note, I consider Gronk's arm injury slightly different since he blocks all game long, and special teams needs blockers (and Gronk is good at that job), whereas the Texans offense has plenty of good options for scoring TD from the 2 yard line.

Never heard of the ****** who wrote that article.

This article is whack.

The premise that Watt would be the greatest tight end ever makes no sense since he was moved from tight end to defensive line in college at Wisconsin IIRC.

Doubt he'd be moved to defensive line if he was destined to be the GOAT at the tight end position in the NFL.

This is ANOTHER Sam Monson piece of idiocy. Why would any thoughtful football observer give it the time of day. I mean, how often do you get to make completely moronic opinions and STILL have people who should know better give you both clicks and credence. Giving Monson a reasonable forum for his tripe is like giving the Flat Earth Society a full hearing for their "theories" just because you're trying to be fair.

Sam Monson is like the Kardasians. You shouldn't complain about them making a great living from being talentless "celebs", if you watch their shows or talk about them to friends. Simply ignoring Sam Monson is its highest reward.

I saw that piece yesterday. Just the latest attempt by The World Wide Leader to panhandle for clicks. I can't ever recall a more ridiculous premise. The 4 Letter Network can't publish crap like that and at the same time claim to be a credible news source. As my old man used to say, "More balls than brains."
Doesn't have an adequate supply of either--ignore.

Ha! Mediots at their best.
Can NEVER just leave an accomplished Patriot alone, have to always stir up something. Goes to show that there is no need to go to broadcasting or journalism schools anymore just get any Mediot in front of a keyboard or mic'd up with an opinion and you got'yaself a column or blog.

Lets see Watt play TE for an entire game and see how long he lasts running routes every other play

Is that idiot legitimately the author? Thank **** I didn't click the link to read that crap.

ESPN is becoming like the Onion. At least the Onion is mildly entertaining...ESPN is just a joke

I just came here to post about Vrabel

Mike Vrabel, 10 TDs on 14 Targets. Mike's the greatest TE of all time!

No one speaking with even a modest grasp of the NFL would compare JJ Watt and Gronk as TE's unless the article is un-serious. The writer of the article is equivalent to a knee jerk poster on a game thread; Brady throws an Int then a poster says Brady sucks/washed up/start JAG now! But unlike a knee jerk reaction by a knucklehead poster, this writer is using nonsense in a calculated way (and chances are good the writer is largely NFL illiterate)

So Mike Vrabel could be a better TE than Gronk? Horrible logic. I hate sports media.

Watt is a freak athlete and an amazing football player, I don't doubt that he'd be a top-tier TE.

"Deion Sanders is a much better wide receiver than Jerry Rice"

-some f@#!ing moron

Love the overreaction. Let's get serious guys. It's called small sample size. 3 snaps, get real.

To be fair, I'd give the edge to Watt as a red zone, goal line tight end because of his size. But all the OTHER tight end duties - like blocking, lining up, running routes, all those things that make Gronk great. All the things that a TE needs to do on a daily basis? He just blows away Watt. And it ain't even close.
