Don't underestimate the suckitude that is Tony Romo in December. He can blow a game with the best of them.

Thursday night football sucks. I feel like Tuesday/wednesday nights with any participating team getting a bye the following week might bring the level of play up a bit. These games are an embarassment, and only compound the weekly beatings players take.

Jay Cutler sucks, and the team's not good enough to overcome that. He's thrown INTs in 8 of 12 games this season, and the Bears are 1-7 in those games. The lone win in those games came against the Vikings, at home.

As awful as Cutler is, their defense does them no favors. Living in IL, the Bears are always on (Thank the Lord for Sunday Ticket and the Pats). Their defense used to be able to overcome their TERRIBLE QB play.

Their offense is the same every week. Get behind, throw screens to Jeffrey and stop feeding Forte.

I love Forte and see Vereen as a very poor man's Forte, but MF can run between the tackles, unlike Vereen.

Last year, CHI almost had an air raid offense to Marshall and Jeffrey.

The funniest part is that I have some friends in CHI that have seen Cutler out. They all say Cutler is an absolute ass to the fans, and they have even had their own stories about him.

I have no idea why CHI gave that ******* that much money, guaranteed.

Last season, Cutler was 5-6 and threw 12 picks in 11 games. The Bears were 2-1 in games where he didn't toss a pick, and 3-5 when he did. A career mediocrity like McCown was able to go 3-2 with a 13:1 TE:INT ratio surrounded by that offense.

The defense has issues, no question, but Cutler is a coach, and franchise, killer.

I wish I could show this exact quote to all the Bears fans around me haha! So true

Bears looking to cut the lead down to one score. Cutlerception ends game.

Cutler gonna Cutler.

So glad the Bs are on/were on during this crap fest

The Bears defense is so bad it looks like they're resigned to chasing after running backs and receivers from 10-20 yards behind. What an embarrassment to what was once a proud tradition in Chicago football.

Nope. You actually couldn't be more incorrect....

1) QB rating in the month of December 114.1 (highest among active QBs)

2) 28 touchdowns vs. only 4 interceptions in the month of December (past 5 years from 2009--2014)

3) Completion average hovering around 70% in the month of December

I've actually wondered how Cole Beasley may be a fit here, considering that he's a free agent in a few months.

If you assume that we'll be cutting Amendola (a big assumption), the real question becomes whether or not a guy like Beasley would be able to handle a full workload due to his size.

5'8" and 180 lbs.

He plays on ST and could be a candidate to break out more in a better setting. Who knows?

I'm assuming you meant a bye for the previous week (Thursday night games are part of the following Sunday's schedule of weekly games), as that would give the two teams 11 days to rest and prepare for a Thursday night game rather than the current four days. Two games in five days is too much, and it shows with the product on the field.

Right now all teams have to play a TNF game, in part to make it fair to everybody to have to deal with the short week. I would be all for including that bye as part of a package for playing on Thursday, but then that would mean byes get spread out over the entire season - which would not be god for teams playing very early or very late in the season. You could eliminate early or late season TNF games, but I doubt either the owners or the players would agree to a loss with the corresponding revenue.

Playing on Saturday rather than Sunday would make the most sense since it is only a one day difference. The problem is that Congress enacted a law fifty years ago that said pro teams could not play on Friday night or anytime on Saturday until late December, as it would hurt the college football programs from having to compete with the pros.

That was part of legislation that allowed teams to pool broadcast rights as a league in contract with television networks, which was a major factor in the ascension of the popularity of the NFL. It's also why blackouts are allowed when a game does not sell out, and why the local game is the only one that can be telecast when the game does sellout (all to protect local gate receipts). Even as powerful as the NFL's lobbyists are, I seriously doubt they can get that clause removed now.

I can't envision Thursday night games going away, even with the scrutiny about player safety driven by the concussion lawsuits. A bye that would give team a week and a half both before and after a Thursday game would make the most sense.

Not meaning to pile on with two comments against you, since I certainly think that you're a high quality poster and have a ton of respect for you, but both of the teams that played tonight had a full week to rest and heal since they played last Thursday as well.

Both Chicago and Dallas played last Thursday on Thanksgiving day, so really it's no different in this example.

Otherwise, it's hard to argue with your statement. Although I highly, highly doubt that TNF will be going anywhere anytime soon, I do agree that it seems to water down the product to some degree, not to mention the fact that it increases the risk for injury.

No worries, I'm not going to go getting all but hurt about some internet message board posts (although you can take your Romo facts and go home. He still seems to crumble when the pressure is on). I forgot both teams played on turkey day. So with this week as an exception to the rule, I think the point still stands.

There is no way the revenue stream gets passed up, but I think the league needs to take a long hard look at ways to ensure a quality product. Then add the shortened week in an already brutal game of attrition...

This game was fairly boring, but livened up a bit in the 4th quarter. Overall, I didn't have a rooting interest in either team so it was like meh for me.
