Report: Dobson will be placed on IR (Now Official)

I'm running low on Dobson jokes so once I've shot my wad I'm gonna step back and give him next training camp to make the 53, or not. And yes, we need to upgrade the Amendola/Dobson competition level. I agree with those OhExaultedOne et. al. who correctly say that this management team has serious disfunction drafting WRs. The pathetic record speaks for itself. Ironic that they have had a much higher batting avg with FA WRs, Ocho & Amendoler included. I guess any # better than 1 hit out of 8 or so is a good one.

Dobson to the IR is getting dangerously close to a certainty, like "death and taxes".

I'll have to add (for myself) that the butt fumble will always be funny.

Nothing more or less than what we all expected.

Ok thanks for the correction. I just saw that bit reported on twitter. It must be 2nd best though. Definitely the best in the Brady/Belichick era.
Sorry I went over the top on that. You're probably pretty young. Gino Cappeletti put up 45/768/8 in 1961 in his sophmore sesaon. Why mention that? Because his rookie year (along with being our kicker) he played RCB. If you dig history here's a site you should peruse.

Again, came across a little strong. Noticed your join date after I posted.

Wow another mega page whine fest by "the WR's is the only position that matters" group. Thes are the same people who spent all that time telling what a mistake our idiot FO made by not picking a truly gifted WR like Corderelle Patterson. ( never mind) The same people who want you ignore the first 2 years of Golden Tate's career, when they want to tell you that HE was the FA we should have signed this off season.

You see children, there is just as much historical evidence that make a case that Dobson can come back and have a great career as a WR as can be made for one that he ends up as a bust. Don't forget these are the EXACT same critics who eagerly wrote off Edelman for 3 years, and tried to make him their butt boy

Nothing broke well for Dobson this season, from his surgery, his lack of an off season to his lack of a TC and up and down season season. Star struck and almost as non productive as J Clowney's season so far. ( another wasted pick I guess  )

Another predictable WR thread which have said about the same thing for the lastdozen years or so. Makes me miss those riveting threads where I can listen to mediots show me how much more they know about coaching secondary technique than Bill Bellichick. ::rolleyes:

Obviously they thought they had something in him or they would not have wasted a roster spot for half a season on a guy who was working his way back into game shape.

Next year I think going after a true deep threat will be a big need next offseason, and should be addressed in either round one of the draft or in Free Agency. I would still give Dobson one more chance next offseason to prove himself, but I would definitely not bank on him.

Since I was asked this on Twitter, decided to share this.

Cutting Dobson next year before 6/2 would incur a dead money charge of $436,380. Current 2015 cap no=935,010. Gross cap savings=498,630

If I understand this correctly, the GROSS 2015 cap savings would be $498,630 of we were to cut him before the draft. So, if we were to replace him on the roster with a $498K player, there would be no 2015 cap savings at all.

I expect that Dobson will be back in training Camp next year. We keep on discussing him as a failure because he doesn't start for us. The reality is that we also need three backups in 2015.

We will be bringing in lots of folks to compete with Dobson, Tyms, Boyce, Orton and Krause.

Dobson had a solid rookie season. I believe that he would be a fine choice as our #5 WR. If he earns more reps than that, fine. In any case, he is inexpensive and has shown that he is good enough to be an emergency backup.

REALITY
We have Edelman and LaFell for 2015. We need THREE more wide receivers. In my mind, we also have Dobson as our #5. We still need several receivers to compete for the two other positions.

I agree the pats have Gronk Lafell Edelman and wright all young a nuff to be Brady's top guys until the end of his career and all under contract at a good price so all the pats need is to sign a few vets and rookies with Dobson to see who can be the three for and number five WR's but all Brady's top pass catchers are in place for years to come,

I think a good young RB will be a bigger need in the offseason IMO

Just glad we no longer have to depend on him being healthy.

The reality is we desperately need to work with the young receivers we already have on the roster. Edelman, Lafell, Dobson, Tyms, Boyce, DA, Gronk and Wright are all young and talented enough to be a great receiver corp for the Brady end times. I'm fine with bringing in others to compete with them, but I'd be disappointed if we waste much draft or FA capitol in doing so. Only DA's contract makes him a question mark. So that's just one WR hole to fill if that doesn't work its way out.

The reality is that we will have one of the best and most productive offenses in the league without adding a single new guy. You know it. I know it, and so does everyone who spends an inordinate amount of time complaining endlessly about receivers like they were truly more important than any other position

The high expectations for *insert person* here ______ was to a extent or degree unrealistic knowing how much time he was going to miss. Hey maybe he'll make the Third Year Jump! *not holding breath*.:)

Amazing the extent to which some posters will ignore the complete mismanagement of the foot injury by the now fired Dr. Gill.

'Yeah, he's not out there, so he sucks!'.

Brilliant.

I think CHFF called it chasing the shiny hood ornament, or something like that.
