I liked Michael Bishop. The guy would scramble around and complete improbable hail mary's. In training camp at Bryant College the team walked by us to the locker room and Bishop looked pretty glum.I yelled out "You'll get your chance Bishop!."He turned around scanning the crowd with an appreciative grin. He was released afterward.

Here is an old one....Tony Eason..Tony had a pretty good 1984 statistically but was a wuss and 7-6, Steve took over for the middle of 85 but Tony came back and played well, can't re bet why he didn't play in theSB, and that Miami/NE AFC Champ game was So much fun go watch...not so much the SB

What was NE thinking...lol

Eason was selected by the New England Patriots in the first round (15th overall pick) of the 1983 NFL Draft.[13] He was one of six quarterbacks picked in the first round of the 1983 Draft along with John Elway (1st pick), Todd Blackledge (7th pick), Jim Kelly (14th pick), Ken O'Brien (24th pick), and Dan Marino (27th pick).[14]

...Pretty sure that's why I got angry about Brady a couple years later because I thought, "if not Bishop, why this kid?"

Yeesh A QB scout I am not.

.

But, don't despair. With personnel evaluation talent like that you could be GM of the Jets!

The early 90's were the dark years for me. Moved to Texas and there was no way, even with cable to get anything but a Pats Oilers game. The last one i remember before bledsoe, who was putrid was Marc Wilson.

Dude, go back to history class. Champaign Tony Eason had promise. When he came in during that Seahawks game and lead the Pats back from 23-0, it was fantastic. 1984 was a good year that just went south after Thanksgiving. Tony was solid in 1985 and in 1986. The Bears crushed him but they would have crushed anyone! He had injury problems that cost him his career but he was not a bum. He was no Marino but he won the same number of super-bowls...

"Finally, Full confession ....I always kinda liked Michael Bishop. I remember thinking he never got a fair shot.

As player:
New England Patriots
Green Bay Packers
Frankfurt Galaxy
Toronto Argonauts
Grand Rapids Rampage
Chicago Rush
Kansas City Brigade
Grand Rapids Rampage
Saskatchewan Roughriders
Corpus Christi Hammerheads
Texas Hurricanes
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Calgary Stampeders
Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Good Lord...seeing this list makes you realize just how hard it is to make it in the NFL. I guess when you love the game, you'll play it anywhere and anyway, living out of hotel rooms in subzero temp cities and wondering where you'll wake up the next year...or the next day, for that matter!

Well I never said he was a bum so get it right. promise, injury problems = excuses. 84 a good year but he went south after thanksgiving..really that's a good year, sounds like he sucked. in 85 he had 11 touchdowns to 17 INT's, call it what you want but we watched it and thought he sucked. Yeh he took a beating in the SB, but half the time he fell on the ground like a wuss. history class - I won't throw insults like you, but I saw him play live, in Foxboro. He was 7-6 in 84, 6-4 in 85 with a average of 134 yards a game with a 67 qbr, 86 was his best year but he was still a dam wuss. Steve Grogan had so much more guts than Eason it isn't even arguable.

Whenever I hear Zolak during Pats games (which isn't very often I admit), he sounds like a loud-mouthed, uniformative boob.

Nice trip down memory lane, many names have forgotten(unfortunately or fortunately not sure)... makes me appreciate this team and how much I miss my memory...

I like Zo on the radio, never cared for him on the football field though..

I remember being at a 2000 game, (some) people were clamoring for Bishop to get playing time and a furious debate broke out in the stands (unlike the OP I don't have a great memory for which section).
The argument ended when the biggest, most grizzled Pats fan in the bunch yelled "BISHOP'S AN A-HOLE!" at the top of his lungs.

It was enough to help me step off the Bishop bandwagon.

I agree about Zo on the radio. I find that he and Gresh are very good on football, pitifully weak on baseball and basketball and I don't know enough about hockey to judge. They fall occasionally into the frat-boy mode, but I understand based upon the demographic they're aiming for. The midday show on WEEI with MFB has become unlistenable to me, particularly on football. Fauria, to me, offers little that's insightful about football, Benz is a troll and Merloni has morphed into a mini-Felger.

Are you calling Bledsoe putrid, or Wilson? Bledsoe was actually a pretty solid QB. Obviously Brady makes him look bad, but he would probably be better than any of today's AFC East's other QBs.

Let me say a few things. First, I am PHS class of 1976. You?

Finally, Full confession ....I always kinda liked Michael Bishop. I remember thinking he never got a fair shot.

Relieved to learn you actually graduated HS! Is PHS accredited?

Liked Bishop. Had great fun watching him at scrimmage in Smithfield. On TV he'd win pre-season games in the 4th QTR tossing bombs to Sean Morey, a binkie. His make it up on the fly style was anathema to BB.

Poor sentence structure on my part. Other guy mentioned some unknown who played before bledsoe. I actually like Bledsoe very much, except for his lack of trying to become more mobile as he aged.

Well, I never said you said he was a bum! :p And what insults?

With that said, in 1984, if you remember, the whole team went south. And if you also remember, Eason was trained by Meyer to fold and take the sack instead of throwing an interception.

And for all the Grogan love, he only had 2 years where he threw more TD than interceptions. I love Grogan (my second football was a Grogan) but Eason's years were not that bad..

Well he's one half of the only Boston sports talk show worth listening to.
