Green Bay won, but i felt we were the better team

logan ryan let his rookie season get to his head. remember that hot dogging move he did after an INT last year?

given the game he played and that he was still on the field on the last meaningful play of the game and failed to defend the first down catch, tells me that the pats were never all that intent on winning this game

I mean they try to win every game, but they played the game not to show much and they succeeded

the icing on the cake was brady's f-bomb dance on the sideline......looked a little scripted to me

Which team is "better" is irrelevant. That is why the games are played. Be that as it may, I feel the Patriots are good enough to go anywhere and beat any of the other 31 teams if they play up to their potential in all three phases. I can't ask for anything more as a fan.

The Packers where the better team Sunday, for sure, but I would love to see them again at the end of the road in Arizona.

Yes, we lost and Rodgers and Company played a great game. But, i'm coming away from this game that the Packers won't be able to put up points on us and will have some serious trouble when we play them in the Superbowl.

When we switched to more of a 2-deep safety and put Revis on Nelson in man with the others playing more zone or on their side we kind of neutralized them. Nelson will be a non-factor, we will contain Cobb (who will still probably put up big numbers) and Adams won't do much. I'm not afraid of Lacy and with Jones back we can put some pressure.

Offensively we had an average game. Packers are not good against the run, Gronk will be targeted more and we should put up 30+.

I would feel so much better about a rematch if we had any semblance of a third wide receiver. I don't care who, just somebody. People say Amendola is Edelman's insurance but he did nothing even when Edelman was clearly hurting. Outside of special teams, it is like he isn't even on the team. No reverses, bubble screens, or anything much outside of blocking. I think Tyms could be our number three but at this point I would even settle for Slater.

I definitely didn't feel like we were the better team while watching the game. I thought we were fortunate to still be in the game despite not playing very well. I felt we had a chance to steal this one... But I did not once during this game think, "we're the better team". To me green bay were clearly the better team. On that day anyways.

I'm definitely more in tune with the optimism on these boards than the pessimism. But idk about being the better team in that game... Pats didn't play their best on Sunday, but neither did the Packers!

That said, I think there's a very reasonable chance, barring major injuries, that we'll be the better team in a month or two. To be the best team in the league is definitely within this team's reach:
  • A healthy Cameron Fleming will be a huge improvement over the way Cannon is playing right now in the power running game. (Also, maybe it's time to let Gray get a few snaps back.) That will give McD confidence to stick with the run. And I feel like we NEED to be able to run the ball; our WRs are not nearly good enough (certainly not with a gimpy Edelman) for Brady to win a SB all by himself. But the threat of the run -- particularly out of the 2-TE set -- changes everything for the passing game.

  • A healthy Arrington >>> the garbage Ryan/Dennard put out there on Sunday

  • The pass rush will get better as Easley & Jones round into form.
We have a month until the playoffs. The Pats can still be the team that crushed the Bengals/Broncos/Colts/Lions, especially given HFA (and eventually, hopefully, a neutral field).

Not sure how you came to that conclusion lol. They drove down the field at will and if wasn't for a dropped pass they would have scored 30+ points. I don't think we can count on the packers missing on redzone opportunities again.

With 36 minutes on the field, our D was remarkable (and maybe a little lucky...but luck is part of the game last time I checked) in holding Rodgers to two TD's, neither from the Red Zone.

As Belichick often says, this game came down to who could make a play. Rodgers and Nelson made one for a TD and big momentum swing at the end of the first half and then Rodgers and Cobb made one to ice the game at the end of the fourth quarter. Our guys didn't. They had their chances, but they didn't make a play.

That day, on that field, in that game, the right team won the game.

Correct

I think our D did a good job *as good as you can hope for* keeping the packers out of the endzone.. But that is the only area they did a good job with. The other really important area they did absolutely terrible in was 3rd down. They just couldn't get that one big stop we needed. That is something I was counting on going into this game. Our defense being better than green bays. They let me down a little bit.

Yes, but the defense was on the field for 36 minutes in part because they couldn't get GB off the field on 3rd down. The offense having some short drives had something to do with it, too, but the defense doesn't completely get a free pass.

I was half drunk so I don't recall, but did the pats play any zone? all I recall is straight up man with no doubling

I did not "feel" that the Pats were the better team Sunday night. I felt like they got outplayed in nearly all phases of the game and only had a chance because of some key red zone stops. I don't think the game was as close as the score indicated.

Allowing the Packers to score in the final minute of the first half and then posting an immediate 3 and out to start the second half was a complete trainwreck.

I really think this offense needs to shift their thinking away from 2007 style barrages of quick strike scoring plays and focus on getting first downs. The repeated 3 and outs killed them Sunday. I thought the deep throw to the end zone on 2nd and 9 on the final drive was a big mistake. This offense needs to focus more on just moving the sticks, especially when it is unlikely the defense can stop the other team.

We will win a rematch on neutral field. Not worried about GB.

IMO, both teams have almost equal amount of great/good players.

The difference was the gameplanning.

GB took advantage of the weak spots in our defense - Ninko and Logan Ryan in coverage. They repeatedly went after both guys on key downs.

Meanwhile, our offense didn't take advantage of their 30th ranked defense and run right at them. Instead we fell right into what their D does best, using their speed, when we decided to play spread for majority of the game.

I think both teams are even for the most part. It came down to gameplans and adjustments.

They were in position to win that game in the end. For whatever reason on that final drive they decided to give Green Bay a breather from Blount gouging them for 5-10 yards a a carry. Even if the Pats won I would of felt like they stole one. Which I gladly would of taken btw.

Yeah. If the D does its job and gets off the field the O gets more opportunities to make plays. Conversely, if the O does its job, the D isn't on the field for as long.

The gate swings both ways.

I assume that you're joking.

Ryan was replaced by Arrington for awhile, for the record.

Unfortunately, I agree with you.

I hate to admit it, but I believe that GB definitely outplayed us on Sunday. They threw the ball all over the field and took advantage of one-on-one mismatches, even with Browner and Revis doing a great job. That said, N.England also did some things well too, like holding GB to 0-4 in the red zone--which was extremely important and allowed them to hang in there with even a chance to win at the end.

It was a hard fought game, and all we can hope for is a rematch with different results.

I'm both confused and disappointed in regards to Alfonzo Dennard.

Not sure what Bedard said today. But last time he said Dennard was being moved into a more slot role with Revs and Browner on the outside and reason he wasn't playing becasue he really was getting it too well. But said he was doing better.

Looks like they are more comfortable with Ryan outside which confuses me.
