The Patriots vs Packers POST Game Thread

Rodgers is an elite QB and one of the best in the league. And we only lost by 5 to them at their Home on the road. No shame in the loss.

Now it's on to SD.
Its what was expected except we lost. i think at home or a neutral field we win.

Really hoping KC can beat Denver.

Just one thing I care after the game. Any injuries? Is Hightower okay? Eldlman seems fine.

26 point for GB is not bad D. 21 points for a Brady led offense is dung. And our vaunted special teams looked more like short bus special than unique special. I expected more from O and ST.

So, the Patriots should score every time they touch the ball, then?

Are we sure Ed Hochuli isn't just a Foot Locker employee pretending to be a ref?

This loss would be so much easier to swallow if the refs' fingerprints weren't all over it.

That Jordy Nelson TD near the end of the half was awful though - you can only blame the safeties for that. Otherwise, the game plan on him and Cobb worked very well. Too bad the next DBs after Revis and Browner couldn't step up. (Ryan and Chung). The D didn't play THAT bad overall, though. They got a decent bit of pressure on Rodgers at times and forced 4 field goals in the red-zone. That's a big positive. The coverage was outstanding on several plays too. Only 1 forced punt and 0 turnovers is terrible.

On offense, we wasted a lot of plays running Vereen up the middle (specifically, our opening drive comes to mind. We went 3 and out). Brady was under pressure quite a bit but still made some great throws. Too bad the o-line failed miserably on the biggest moment of the game.

Three points:
1) I had this as an L when the final schedule was released, so I'm unhappy but not falling apart.

2) The Pats still have their destiny in their own hands. Win out, and the road to the SB goes through Foxboro.

3) Adam makes that FG. I don't want to hear a single word from the Gostkowski apologists. If Gostkowski makes that kick, who knows what happens? The Pats recover an on-sides kick? Who the **** knows? Yes. Yes. Of course, the odds are long, but I think Adam was more likely to have given them a chance and they would have been within an FG of a win.

Please. Please. Spare me the histrionics in support of Gostkowski.

Because the simple fact is that until Gostkowski makes a single kick as big as the kicks that Adam made, a kick like he had to make tonight, I'm just...not...listening.

Save your breath.

I don't like losing but we have a good team and a win next week will cure what temporarily ails us.
We could have played better in a lot of areas but we lost by a slim margin against a team like Green Bay at home?...we aren't looking too bad.

Get back to work this week ..#OnToSanDiego ...Rivers and that offense will be a tough test again but isn't that what we want, let's be battle tested against good teams.

One thing I would like to do earlier is to establish that running game. This week put extra time in for more schemes and bring in another blocker for the line. We are a better team when we can run and control the clock, everyone benefits from that.

Let's put in a good week of practice and move on.

Some of those refs calls and non-calls were really questionable.

We'll be aiight....put it behind us and get back to work!!!

Pass rush was non-existant and the Pats didn't stop the Packers on their side of the field nearly enough to win. When you add in that and the OL struggles, you have two big components needed for a loss.

I think the Packers B game beat the Pats C game at Lambeau in a game with no turnovers.

I didn't expect the Pats to lose this game in the trenches. It's amazing they didn't give up 50 after giving Rodgers so much time in the pocket. Wilfork and Jones got pushed around.

I'd definitely give the coaching nod to GB in this one. I wonder if either of the Brady timeouts were coachign related. Nink shouldn't be on RBs in man coverage.

Our D did its job but the O crapped their pants.

If you consider doing their job forcing the packers to punt one time then you are correct. The reality is pats should have lost 33-21 had Adams caught a pass that most 10 years old would have been able to catch. Tells you all you need to know about the pats defense today when BB goes for it on 4th down on the 50 yard line.

Of course the offense was not doing the defense any favors either today. Kind if discouraging pats can only muster 21 points on this defense considering they put up 34 on the lions.

Pass blocking on deep passes is hit or miss. Outside block is improving. Interior pass blocking has regressed since Denver.

*Interior blocking against DET was solid but it is susceptible at times.

Was it just me, or did the Packers disguise who was coming just before the snap on some of their rushes? And if so, it seemed to me that this led to some confusion among the interior of the offensive line.

Good game. I don't know about you guys but I'm coming away from this game with some confidence. Played a great offense on the road and almost came away with a win. The 2nd half adjustments by the defense were just awesome to watch.

Thing that hurts is despite the 1st half this team mustered, they had the Packers on the ropes in their own building and then the bell rang. The last drive was kind of a mixed bag. Brady made a lot of magic happen to extend the drive but I still question some of the calls or decision making when they got on their side of the field. Blount was running off about 5-10 yards per clip. Why stop until they can show they can stop him?

Get rid of the flag throwers and this game is different. Enough with the loser talk. Play like you did in the 2nd half and win this game going away Patriots.

Long way to the Super Bowl but if this was a preview Belichick has all the film vs his own personal he needs to assemble a game plan for the ages. And yes it will be on a neutral field and hopefully hackuli and his crew is as far away from Arizona as possible.

I'll be holding my head high this week and looking forward to the game in San Diego coming up.

Pats need a win next week either way... If Denver wins tonight they'll be tied with the Pats in record, Pats have the tiebreaker but will need to keep winning to maintain. If KC wins tonight, they will be 1 game behind NE, and if the Pats lost again next week and KC won then they would have the same record as NE and hold the tiebreaker, so they would be bumped out of the top seed. So, winning out the rest of the way is still necessary to ensure HFA.

Excluding final possession for GB and kneel down for Pats: 8 possessions each.

2.625 points per possession for Pats (would've been 3 per if Ghost hits)
3.25 points per possession for Packers (would've been 3.6 if they don't miss a FG)

Pats average 2.7 PPP and Green Bay averages 2.87. Green Bay gives up 1.92 points per possession, and we give up 1.74.

Sorry, but the offenses of both sides performed about as expected. It was the number of times they had the ball that dictated the outcome.

Great post.If you have comparable teams and do not get off the field even if you just give up just field goals most of the time you will lose.

My first thought is that I'd have liked to reply to some posts late in the in-game thread.

Second thought is, I should thank the heavy handed moderators for reminding me that this board may not be the best use of my time.

C ya later.

So, the Patriots should score every time they touch the ball, then?

No, but I do expect more points on the board than 21 from an offense that averages 32.5 per game.

Its been many many yrs since Adam left. At his age in the cold weather games, I dont think he wouldve lasted this long in foxboro. Playing in Indy helps him. And IIRC, he has missed a FG in the superbowl. I love Adam but this is way too late to bring up a player who is gone 8-10 yrs ago.

really, you thought the o-line was not quit on par with previous games. the pats didn't get a first down till the end of the first quater

Yeah, and you don't think some of that had to do with the fact that the Packers did not punt at all in the first half?

It's hard to block defenders when you are standing on the sideline most of the first half IMO.

2011 reared it's ugly head when we kept getting in third down situations and couldn't get off the field. Red zone D was amazing though and the offense can't start of slow against a great team either. Overall many of us had this game circled as a loss but we definately had the chance to pull it off let's beat San Diego
