Manning was prepared to come out, but Parcells refused to tell Archie if he would take Manning. Archie and Co feared that Parcells would trade the first pick(like he went onto do) so when Parcells refused to commit to Manning, he decided to stay in school.

He would have succeeed with Parcells. We may not have gone to the AFC Championship game, but we would have been better in the long run. Hell, Bill may have stayed with us had we drafted Manning.
