Personally, I have greatly enjoyed discussing the patriots for many, many years on this forum. I have little or no interest in other teams or sports. I avoid the sub-forums and almost all Off-Topic threads (and am happy that they are marked). I am fine with all threads having to do with the patriots, and everything about them.

I wasn't surprised to start reading a thread about who we should start at RB. After all, that might be a controversial and interesting subject. I WAS surprised when, upon further reading, that the thread had nothing to do with the patriots. Rather the thread had to do with the poster's hobby of participating in fantasy football leagues.

See below for a discussion. I didn't add a poll because this thread is intended as advice to Ian. This isn't a democracy. Clearly, Ian does, and should, make such decisions.

THE QUESTION (My choice is #2, although I am OK with #3 or even #4)

Should we have posts of whether to start LeFell or Blount on our fantasy football teams within threads that are about wide receivers and running backs. Should we celebrate that Gray scored lots of fantasy points for us?

IMHO, there are several options.

1) Have fantasy discussions within all threads, as long as the discussion is about patriots players.

2) Have fantasy threads clearly marked FF, analogous to off-topic threads. Under this option, fantasy football would only be discussed in these threads.

3) Have fantasy discussions in a separate sub-forum. we already have many sub-forums.

4) Have the understanding that this is a forum about the patriots, not our fantasy football teams, and have no discussions of fantasy football.

I love fantasy football but it's not what I come here for.

None would be my preference (4) but there's tons of OT stuff posted, I just ignore the thread. I have tons of threads on ignore. If there was a way to automatically ignore any thread starting with OT or FF that would be great.

.

I have no use for FF myself, and avoid any related content as best I'm able. For me these choices would be the most desirable. Alternatively I'd enjoy some method of filtering out such posts (assuming the means doesn't already exist - I'm lazy about brushing up on site functionality).

At the top of the thread to the right, hover over "Thread Tools" and you can Ignore Thread from there. It works, I do it a ton for all the topics that aren't directly Patriots related.

I'm sorry that thread degenerated into whether or not FF discussions belong here or else where. My intent was dual. One, there are alot of posters that play FF, while its not strictly "patriots" given the amount of replies, it is of interest.

Second. I limited it to patriots players. I thought the Blount vs Gray discussion would be interesting regardless.

If I had framed the question as "If you were BB, who would you start", the responses would probably be close to what is there now.

Sometimes I wonder if we take ourselves too seriously. This is a discussion board, lets discuss. My feelings are if your not interested, just move on.

There's a forum for it right here. If we limit certain threads to the draft forum, which I'm fine with now, that answers it. The draft is actually relevant to building a football team. Fantasy games are actually the opposite of what makes a good team, so shouldn't be part of a football forum IMO.

If you really have to, without making it explicitly about fantasy games, just suggest we trade for or pick up every expensive receiver and running back, which is a gray area and at least has to do with building (not well IMO) a football team.

It's not a fantasy forum. We have one.

It's a Patriots discussion board. Not a Fantasy Football board, not a Red Sox board, not a General Football board. A Patriots board.

That's how boards start to suck. Too much crap getting in the way of the intended subject. Thankfully we can ignore threads to keep it from getting too cluttered. But your feeling of "just move on" is a little selfish, to be honest. Again, I don't care too much as I "Ignored" your thread many days ago.

I do know about thread ignore. I'm wondering if a kind of "smart filtering" would be in any way workable. I realize it would be imperfect and limited at best, hence my support of the other choices, but no harm in broaching the possibility.

It's a Patriots discussion board.

More importantly, it's a Patriots Football board, with offensive and defensive linemen, special teams players and a ton of other aspects that are not prone to statistical parlor games.

We've had an influx of new fans since Brady and BB and that's fine. Some of our best posters are ff fans and they might bring that slant to reasonable discussions of the best way to win games, which is also fine.

If we're going to have a separate group of threads about how to get big WR statistics with no thought to winning the games or to which team you're rooting for, i think we've crossed a line and you might as well put a fork in this place. Just my opinion.

Yeah, if I'm interested in discussing the draft I head to the draft board and so on. I'd prefer that the main board was populated with current topics not fantasy or draft etc.

Should i start Adrian Peterson or Ray Rice as my Flex?

Who am i kidding, i don't need advice. I'm 9-3, in first place and have TFB as my QB.

Is this a legit thread? Personally, I don't even play fantasy football but this thread is still ridiculous.

That's funny. I thought of you and supafly as some of the best fans who were fantasy football fans (my previous post). I guess I just assumed you were because of your stats inclination. My apologies if it makes any difference.

If you don't want to read the post, then don't. If you accidentally clicked on a topic and it led you to a discussion you didn't want to be a part of, then hit the back button - It really isn't that hard. I find it unbelievable that a new topic had to be started because of this.

I moved the Who should I start - Blount or Grady thread? to the fantasy football forum.

FF is to me another attempt to harvest cheap and immediate gratification from something that takes time and careful attention to understand. It is the pornographication of football. It has created a backwash onto the original art form which shows up in this message board as posts that insist that the Patriots need more playmakers who rack up huge statistics, or that certain individual "skill" position players are not replaceable.

It has a strong connection to the celebritification of football, a belief that the "star" system is what creates winning, promulgated by former players who are advancing their personal careers as celebrities. This shows up in the comments and attitudes of Tomlinson, Irving, and a few others every weekend. It also is part of what has corrupted the Jets' team building efforts, so at least it has that going for it.

Having provided this uplifting sociological commentary, I'll leave by saying, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Personally, I loathe fantasy football. I think it's antithetical to "real" football, and distracts from the game. It's about as authentic as the Kardashians. I started to post a response on the thread you mentioned, then deleted it once I realized the thread was about fantasy football.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. I generally keep my opinions to myself, and avoid all fantasy discussions. If people enjoy fantasy football, fine. I like the sub-forum idea. The only sub-forum I participate is the draft forum (very actively) - I love thinking ahead and discussing the draft months ahead of time, which some people may find tedious or distracting from focusing on the regular season.
