OK, I'm having a bit of a tough time with 2 of the 3 duds being OL's.

Especially against the Detroit Freakin' Lions front line????????

They will not play another defense that good the rest of the way.

Brady was not sacked once in 53 pass attempts!!!!!!

The running game averaged 4.5 yards per carry!!!!!!

How 'bout a little context, Greg?

He DID say it was hard to find duds, but why make it up if there weren't any?

Probably part of the contract with Douche and Squeaky. They need to have negatives. Gotta have them. Was it posted what squeaky's 3 downs were?

Vereen
Gronk
Edelman

Squeaky the ultimate know-nothing-about-football stat craver. Gronk was responsible for 17 points and maybe 24 if he wasn't held. I mean how else does squeaky think Tim Wright gets that open in the end zone twice?

Depends which Mankins you would have gotten. Everything said about Cannon and Devey week 1 could have also described Mankins in the first Dolphins game last year. Mankins' average 2013 level would have absolutely helped the Pats in week 1 this year, but the Dolphins are one opponent in particular who he was legitimately awful against for that game last year.

I also don't know how much people want to project his Bucs performance to predict how he'd have helped out the Pats, but I do know that he didn't contribute to much of anything for the Bucs in week 1. He only played 10 snaps before he got hurt and missed the rest of the game.

Fair points.

Others have said before, he hasn't been great in Tampa this year, and it looks like Belichick made the right move at the right time. Again.

I guess my larger point would be that the Miami game was lost by the offense, the defense gave them seven cracks at it in the 2nd half. Whereas the KC game was one giant bleepshow.

Do you think Mayo is going to accept getting cut from 6 mill to 2mill?
That does save 4 mill unless he never plays.
No Andy, the way it seems to be explained is that the only way he loses any of the 6MM is if he doesn't play in the games. I don't think hed have a prob;em actually having to play in the game in order to get paid, especially given that he got paid top 2 dollar for not playing much the last 2 seasons.

You wanted him to take a 4mill cap cut.
This doesn't do that.

I don't understand. Cap costs mean nothing to players. Its all about the cash. A good hunk of his cap charge has been in his pocket for years. My example doesn't take a dollar out of his pocket, it just cuts his 2015 cap charge and moves it ut another year.

Of course that can save around $4MM in cap space, and that assumes they don't even actually ask him to take a Million or 2 in actua.l cash to stay in town And while Ith think there WOULD be a market for Mayo in the 4-6MM range in FA, I doubt that anyone would sign him to any kind of new contract that would create someting over $8MM in cap space. Why would the Pats feel compelled to keep him around at a $10MM cap number

FYI - Since Mayo played in 6 games this year any 46-man active roster bonuses would be treated as follows - 6 games LTBE; 10 games NLTBE

The Bedard reports presented here (and thank you to those providing them) caused me to tune in to Squeaky and the DB this afternoon for the first time in well over a year. I lasted about 20 minutes before I started tearing the house apart looking for tequila, and I neither like nor drink hard liquor. Had to turn it off. It's astounding that those 2 idiots have any audience, let alone the one they do have, which is substantial. I know they're constantly trolling, but they really sound moronic. Makes me wonder if they've ever really taken the opportunity to listen to themselves. At least I'm all set now for at least another year.

I think may o's salary next year is largely guarateed against injury. So you'd probably only save 3m by cutting him. Although you'd save future cap hits.

Wait, what? Is this serious?? Edelman who had 11 catches, a PR for a td called back by a bonehead penalty and took multiple crushing hits and kept on ticking? That Edelman? Vereen who had 8 catches and helped keep Brady clean?

This IS a joke, right? Please tell me that it's a joke.

Nope. His reason for Vereen was he was expecting him to have a bigger game, Gronk was because he dropped a ball and only had 5 catches in 9 targets, and Edelman because he dropped a TD that Brady put on the money.

I loved Barron, Hightower and Kirkpatrick that year. I was a Hightower advocate pre-draft that year so I'm thrilled to see what we are seeing now.
Max, I loved Hightower that year too but also loved Upshaw and wanted the PATS to draft either. Boy am I glad they went with Hightower.

I think that's a fair point by Bedard, but ultimately an obvious one to some extent. If starters get hurt, yeah, we'll be in trouble. The Patriots team is a beast right now, but like so many teams and so many seasons, we can only weather so many injuries.

We're going to need health on our side to do what we did in 01, 03, 04. Especially the health of #s 12, 24 & 87.
imo stork was one of the most important draft picks in many years, he solidified the line. for years i thought the interior o-line was the achillies heal of the team, butt not anymore. Pressuer up the middle on tb was one of the main reasons the pats would fall short especilly in playoff games.

If I'm not mistaken, Mayo's base salary goes up considerably next year and 2015 becomes the first year where the cap savings if cut is greater than the cap hit if he stays which gives the team an option.
One option (Miguel would need to qualify) might be too convert a portion of salary to a signing bonus and the remainder based on playing time percentages so that Mayo still can earn the value of the contract if he plays say 90% of the snaps while providing the team some relief if he gets hurt again.

However, he already has a good portion of his contract guaranteed and this simply adds to it, thus increasing the dead money.

Another issue is that Hightower's last year is next year so whatever position they take with Mayo would impact their strategy with HT and vice versa.

Maybe its best to wait until March to have this discussion on the board as I'm sure we will see some very thoughtful and intelligent analysis.

Regarding Bedard, I do enjoy reading his analysis and as far as mainstream media, he seems to have a very good understanding of the game but I still don't consider him to be a strong authority on the subject.
I actually prefer reading Chatham's views when he does them because he clearly understands the game and the film. Bedard will make conclusions on the all-22 which I think are plausible but not necessarily factual but like I mentioned, his understanding is clearly stronger than anyone else I've read with the mainstream.

Does anyone else have their favorites to read (..Gosselin)?

Felger actually making good points about how the back to back 50 point game overrates the Packers' offense (a lot of defensive and special team TDs and the Bears just quitting). He actually hates the Packers more than the Pats and he is a Packer fan.

I don't believe that for a second. By knocking the Packers, he gives himself Carte Blanche to rip the Pats in kind. But I would guarantee that if the Packers win decisively this weekend...there will be excessive celebrating behind the walls of the Felger household. The manufactured instigation and negativity are obnoxious. We deserve better. #carpetbaggerradio
