I don't think they should have lost. Yes maybe if MIA was healthy in the secondary the could have won..but they weren't.

I think they win in KC and now SD looks like not a very good team anymore. Plus when DEN plays there it's always another home game for them..more #18 jersey wearing tool bags then chargers fans

Miami choked on a 28-17 lead.
Denver has played like crap since they faced us

I know they have....but they won't play like crap like that the rest of the year. I expect them to pick it up. They are still a good team..just not good like they were but still good enough to win out IMO

It will catch up to them in the playoffs since that's when it gets cold out and mannings little hands will need some hand warmers

Not the right thread but since others commented on it, I do not think Denver wins Sunday night, KC is going to be nuts, Manning wont hear ****.

GB Defense - just not as good as people think

I'm not sure anyone thinks GB's defense is all that good. Or maybe I'm just not listening to the right (wrong?) places.

I just dont think the Pats run defense has been great

That they've been terrific for the past month is pretty much a certainty. The only real debate is whether a different team with a different running attack might find a weakness that Denver, Indy and Detroit couldn't.

Game Planning - A wash, both sets of coaches are very good.

I couldn't disagree with this more. McCarthy is not remotely in Bill's league. I personally think Mike is a bad coach who is carried by his roster, but even a more favorable assessment still leaves an enormous gap between the two.

Yeh we will disagree, I think McCarthy has done a very good job and didn't he give Brady a little trouble a few years back? Thought I just read about that. Anyway I like BB better.

GB D gives up 371 yards PG
234 passing PG 13th in NFL...actually better then pats
136 yards rushing PG 30th in NFL

POUND THE ROCK BOYS

GB only has 8 giveaway...pats have 9....GB as 23 takeaways..pats have 20

Plot twist - I'm sure GB is preparing for our rushing/jumbo package. The next questions is, how do the Patriots counter this...

I'll say this - barring a big GB lead (therefore fewer RB touches,) we can call Eddie Lacy a test. Not a Jamaal Charles or Beastmode test, but a test. If Lacy gets stuffed, we can stop saying "they can only stop rushing attacks that aren't any good." We can't predict with confidence that they can do the same against the best running attacks, but at least we can say "Okay that was pretty good."

I like how we're tackling (most plays.) I like the growing consistency and confidence I see on the D. I think the improved secondary is rippling through everything, and what we all thought at the start of the season seems to be coming to pass mid-season... and the mid-season pickups are huge in that.

I really like what it looks like we are, on defense, and really really like the trendline the last few weeks. But I'll let go of my fear the moment we're hoisting another Lombardi, not before.

That just goes with the reality of football: We are who we are on Sunday (or Monday or Thursday.) Last week doesn't count; somebody can screw up who you think you are at any moment.

I swear I can't just be a "fan" anymore, dragging up stats and saying "that proves it!" or just crowing at the top of my lungs "Nut uh we're better!" This game is especially anybody's game, but the any-given-Sunday theorem holds true unless you make it not hold true.

I can't do that, only the Pats can do that - with the league playing as level as it is this year, I guess I'll truly enjoy each game at game-time. Of course I'll come here in between and talk about how I can't trust it until it happens. Because you know, the Pats.

@Oswlek

LOL. My post was geared towards the "GB has the 30th-ranked rush defense crowd". I mean, running on them will just be sooo easy, right? Obviously, their staff is preparing to prevent a fate similar to the Indianapolis Colts.

I'm not sure how good their secondary is, but Ha-Ha, Williams, Shields, and Hyde do seem like solid players.

Lacy has gone over 70 yards twice this season and both games, it was against Minnesota (W5 105/W12 125). Do the Patriots dare Rodgers to pass by taking away the run?

These games are where a guy like Alan Branch may prove his weight in gold.

Also, it's been well documented that Belichick defenses don't usually focus on eliminating RB check down/short routes. However, Rodgers seems to lean on Lacy for those types of plays. I wonder if our "niche" base package finds Casillas spying both Lacy and Rodgers.

I can recall a game when they did. :)

Granted Lacy is no Faulk. But now that you do mention that game, it seems likely that we will focus on Lacy...

They did the same against NO last year as well. And a few others sprinkled here and there.

What will help NE focus on Lacy is the fact that GB's TEs are terrible.

Of course they are because you are listing 20 yard gains, and I am listing passes thrown 20+ yards beyond the line of scrimmage, which is what is pertinent to your argument that Rodgers throws a lot of long, harder to complete passes, which he actually does not. ESPN.com splits.

Not one that says he throws more deep passes that have a lower % chance. Those stats are available and indisputable.

Wasn't addressing your entire point, just correcting an error in your assumptions.
You are right that Brady throws more passes 20+ than Rodgers. Interestingly, Brady has completed 21% of those passes, whereas Rodgers has completed 56%. Brady has also thrown 239 passes 10 yards or less, Rodgers has thrown 210. So Rodgers does not throw deep more often than Brady, but he completes long passes much more often.

I cant buy into all these stats, they are very misleading. I have seen countless plays this year where Rodgers will throw a 20 yard ball to a wide open Nelson/Cobb that they take for 60+ due to a complete breakdown of the D.

IMO - Drew Brees, Joe Flacco - throws a lot of deep balls.
Aaron Rodgers have a strong arm and is accurate. He is similar to Peyton, but with a stronger arm.

Brady is not as accurate when throwing deep balls.

Hopefully, BillB + MattP + JoshM can come up with a good gameplan to confuse Rodgers.
Rodgers don't really have a favorite "Binky", when he throws. So, that will be tough.

The patriots will win this one because they will play well in all three phases. You cannot rely solely on 1 phase of the game and expect to beat us. Green Bay is a very unbalanced team and this will be their downfall. We are playing complimentary football. They are playing Aaron Rodgers. You can't expect one guy to win the game for you against a 3 phase team even if you do have home field.
