2015 NFL Mock Drafts

I have no doubt that Odighazuwa is a good prospect, and will be a good player. He reminds me of a poor man's Datone Jones, another UCLA prospect. But (1) I find it hard to be "pretty sure" what the Pats will do the day of the draft, much less 5 months before, and (2) I tend to evaluate prospects in terms of how they fit into a scheme. No doubt Odighizuwa can play 4-3 LDE in base, and probably back up RDE to some extent, but I'm not sure he's quick enough for a 4-3, or strong enough to be a great 3-4 DE or interior sub rusher. He falls into the category for me of "I'd be absolutely fine with it if that's what BB does, but I personally don't see him as an ideal fit". Same with Zach Hodges. Again, that's nothing against either player. I'm curious why someone would think that he stands out from all the other guys in a very strong DE draft as the one the Pats would choose.

I don't think he's a poor mans anything. He's a top quality player who is off the radar because he's not productive in terms of sacks. He might not be elite athletically but I don't see him being much worse than Chandler Jones. And strong against the run , 270lb, edge setting long armed defensive ends are very much an ideal BB fit.

He;s miserable in TB and losing value by the second, he loves TB, BB, and NE, I smell a veteran return
He won't play for peanuts. He's rich. Time to retire most likely.

I'm sure he loves TB, but not sure about the evidence for him loving BB or loving NE itself. My belief is that he's cut this offseason as TB won't want him for that base salary, and that he'll use the opportunity to sign a decent-sized contract with a contender.

I agree; Mankin$ will never, ever set foot in NE again.

I assume they'll resign Revis for reasonable money (12M / year?), Branch, Vereen, Casillas, Chung, not sure about McCourty, he may be too expensive.

1. trade down for 1st next year, 3rd and 5th this year
2. Cameron ERVING OT/C FSU
3a. Kurtis Drummond FS Michigan State
3b. Quentin Rollins CB Miami OH
3s. Laken Tomlinson OG Duke
4t. Stephone Anthony MLB Clemson
4b. Jake Ryan OLB Michigan
5. Za'Darius Smith DE Kentucky
6. BJ Finney C/G Kansas State
7. Blake Bell TE Oklahoma
7. Nick Perry S Alabama
7. Jaxson Shilpley WR Texas

i like the idea of getting an additional first rounder but I wouldn't be thrilled by Cameron Erving being the first pick in the draft. I do like a number of those other picks, in particular Quinten Rollins. Nice job.

I haven't really watched tight ends at all yet so I'll have to ask you guys. Have you seen any late round TE that could replace Hooman? We could save $1,07M next year by letting him go, which is a lot when we have all these good UFA players. With the trade for Wright as a receiving TE and Flemming as our new extra blocker, Hoomans need has really deminished. But BB might still want a third TE. Or do you guys think we might just roll with just Gronk and Wright? I think we might do that just because Hooman basically never catches a pass anyway, so why not just bring in an extra lineman anyway as Hooman is probably treated more as a blockar than as a receiver by defenses anyway.

Love it!! It is rare, indeed, for anyone to propose we do anything but spend every last bullet, every Year!!

Hell, I even Traded Back with one of the next Year's Picks, in my first Mock, back in 2010!! And that was after trading most'f our Offensive Line for additional Picks!!

Mind you: The Market for Trading Back ~ except in spectacularly stupid King's Ransom Trades like those for Robert Griffin, Julius Jones, and Sammy Watkins ~ seems to've temporarily dried up...But that may in fact actually be a matter of Mad Bill himself passing on such Trades, for all we know.

I bet all these mock drafts are going to go to there mock a CB to the patriots placeholder. They were doing it last year with Revis in the fold and now every mock will say, oh well Revis is going to leave so CB.

They're not even bothering with that pretense in some cases (see: Rang, Rob):

Marcus Peters, CB, Washington: The Patriots boast one of the NFL's better secondaries with veteran CBs Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner on the outside, but they may seek to infuse more youth at the position - and stop Peters' potential tumble out of the first round. The former Washington star offers terrific length, physicality and ball-skills but comes with all kinds of character questions after being dismissed by the Huskies. His talent is undeniable and New England has the leadership in the locker room to consider the gamble.

This certainly doesn't sound like they're losing Revis. . . .

I don't know how BB feels about older prospects. I can see it being an issue for first rounders, less sure it's a major issue after that.

Sebastian Vollmer was pretty darn old when the Pats drafted him (25 when the 2009 season started IIRC).

Yes, I do believe I criticized you for causing a "revolution" rather than an "evolution." ;) (IIRC, you had the Pats drafting twenty players. )

Replace Erving with aj cann and this is a dynamite mock all the way through.

I have always thought either Shipley and or Lockett of k state would be the perfect guys to eventually groom to replace Edelman and or amendola.

Edelman: 5'10.5", 200#
Amendola: 5'11", 195#

Shipley: 6'0", 195#
Lockett: 5'11", 170#

Shipley maybe—although he may have a shared inheritance for concussions (à la his brother Jordan)—but Lockett seems too slight to fit that role.

Jamison Crowder is only 5'9" 175 but he's gained comparisons to DeSean, Antonio Brown, Tavon Austin, and I want him in NE, groom for depth behind Edelman and replace Amendola

The concussion problems is definitely a red flag. I am not concerned about lockett's current build, a year or two in a pro s&c program and he will be completely different.

Clemmings and Golden would be awesome. Really need to upgrade Connolly. I watched a lot of the Arkansas/Mizzou game and was very impressed with Golden's all-around game. I'll bet he doesn't last until 64. But, I'd be willing to trade up to mid-2nd to get the right pass-rusher if we go OL in Round 1.
Would love to get Harrison or Tomlinson there. I'm trading up so I'll pass on a RB. Doubt if Iggy or Preston Smith available at 64. But, I understand why you picked them like both. Good job Tipp. May have to move around to get some of the guys we like.

I have posted Markus Golden before in previous mocks.

After watching the Green Bay game, the New England Patriots need to focus on the pass rush with regard to the defense.

After watching the Green Bay game, I am not convinced by any of the offensive guards currently on the New England Patriots roster let alone practice squad: Connolly, Wendell, Kline, Devey, Barker

Ryan Wendell is acceptable as the backup center to Bryan Stork.
