Jonas Gray has good attitude about sitting out

Did anyone hear something like Gray Tweeted:

"See? That's how quick people turn their backs on you..." or something to that effect...

I am somewhat old school (actually, just old - Lol!) and I don't "Twitter" or "Facebook" or any of that stuff, so I would have no way of confirming this, but a buddy of mine told me it happened...

I saw it.

I'm not a fan of this.

BB unecessarily and very publicly screwed with Ridley's head about the fumbles. Right up until his ACL, Ridley was never the same runner - - yes, he didn't fumble, but he no longer was a deep gain threat either. He ran scared.

Gray got the message with the public leaking of being sent home from practice (which is a discretionary thing - - Reis today intimated that Ayers had the same thing and it wasn't made public - - and he wasn't benched the next game - - neither was Revis).

I'll never forgive BB for the way he treated Seymour when the kid's grandmother (who practically raised him) died.

So now, BB is holding Blount up to be a paragon of virtue and this kid up to be the miscreant? That's an irony. BB is a great coach, but sometimes one has to shake one's head at his actions.

These young men are handsomely paid professional football players on a team that demands commitment to working hard at getting better at doing their jobs every day.

I suspect Jonas Gray got intoxicated by his instant, Sports Illustrated cover success. The Patriots win because they take to heart the saying, "Ignore the noise." Gray didn't. He taped that idiotic karaoke thing for Toucher and Rich, and who knows what else. None of that was remotely useful preparation for the Lions game.

If a player wants to collect a big pay check, sleep in, miss practices and merely put in their time, there are multiple teams that tolerate that - Washington, Oakland, Jacksonville, etc. The Patriots are not one of those teams.

Knuckle heads like Ochocinco who are more interested in their fame than applying themselves to their profession wash out. I hope that doesn't happen with Gray, but if it does, the next man up is LeGarrette Blount who looked pretty good against the best rushing defense in the NFL on Sunday.

It did happen

But it was terribly misinterpreted. I believe he was referring to "fans"/media giving him crap on Twitter/social media for being late to practice, "turning on him" after recently praising him after the Colts game. There was a bunch of simple minded idiots making assumptions like "Oh the Colts game and Sports Illustrated cover must have got to this kid's head!!!!!! Now he thinks he's above the team!!!!!!"

That's good to know that message from Gray was misinterpreted. It makes sense that he would be speaking to those who on Monday-Wednesday were falling all over themselves to heap glowing praise on him, then Friday they weren't giving him the time of day unless it was to know why he thinks he's so 'all that' he can skip practice.
.
However, why is it idiotic to consider these ramifications on an unheralded and largely unknown guy becoming one of the most mentioned names on the most widely watched visual media(the NFL)? I think it's somewhat reasonable to believe that someone (6 years removed from high school) unfamiliar with huge nation wide mega hype can be affected by this mega hype surprisingly heaped on him. And if it did affect him I don't think that would make Gray a bad guy, I think it would make him human.

Look, I'm not saying that was the case at all, I'm just saying it's a fair consideration. And if there was any truth to it?? Gray is probably quite lucky to have BB as his coach (instead of, say, being a member of the Lions). He just got taught a very valuable lesson that could be the difference for him eventually being a starting RB somewhere (maybe the Patriots) versus being a women's shoe salesman that always talks about that one day he scored 4 TD's at a Polk High football game (proverbially speaking).

without rules, there is chaos...rules for certain players divide a team.

Coach did the right thing.

We now have two bruising backs, just what we need for the upcoming real football (post Thanksgiving) season...

Without rules, you get the NY Jets.

He was scared to fumble. That was a good thing.

I think BB has handled the different personalities and molded then into a team better than any football coach I can think of anywhere.

As far as any coach anywhere, I can think of only Auerbach, of those I've read extensively about.

Of course you treat different players and personalities differently. Bill Russel was notorious for his half assed approach to practice, he didn't think there was much reason for it other than to run through something new. One day Auerbach got on him (something he rarely did, it wasn't something Russell took well).

He started with sarcastic barbs about Russell's practice effort. Russel got annoyed and started playing like a demon, blocking every shot, getting every rebound, turning into immediate fast breaks, or one man fast breaks and making a mockery of the practice until it was just called off. Red never mentioned his effort again (of course he was the greatest clutch game day player in history).

On the other hand, Heinsohn was a sarcastic wise ass who always had something to say, especially to authority. Red would bust his balls incessantly, even when he played much better than others. He knew he didn't give a sht, so if hescore forty with 20 rebounds, red would criticize his defense. The more sensitive and less talented players would think, if he's criticizing him, I better pick up my play, even though he said nothing to me.

Rookies are rookies, vets are vets. Blount is Blount, Mccourty is Mccourty. Takes all types to make chemistry work. Some rookies become leaders early on, there's no rulebook for treating players, it's an art. Teams with all boy scouts that never do wrong, fail as well as undisciplined teams do.

Reis today intimated that Ayers had the same thing and it wasn't made public - - and he wasn't benched the next game

However, Reiss pointed out that Ayers also didn't start that game and had to sit out a couple of plays. Revis really is the only one that got away with it without bigger consequences.

Moss and Reevis were disciplined and moved on. Big Sey never got over being disciplined and moved on...to another team. It's probably good that gray got to see that discipline applied to everyone. I think he will handle this as Reevis did and we will have a dynamic duo in the backfield for the tournament.

Seriously?

REVIS
