I used to think Arrington would be a 2015 cap casualty, but he's earned his contract and then some this year. Maybe it's been his time with Revis, because he's even been a pretty good outside CB to complement his great slot game.

Revis, Browner, and Arrington is the best CB trio in the NFL and it really isn't that close IMO. There are just very little passing windows when they are out there.

The defense is some additional front 7 talent away in 2015 from potentially the best D in the NFL. We may already have it if Jones takes another step forward and Easley breaks out in his second year.

They're 2 above average pass rushers away from being a dominant force in the NFL. Really, it's rather remarkable to see what Belichick has done with the D in the space of one off-season and into the regular season.

BB's scouting/rolodex of plug and play/under-utilised players must be something.

I mentioned this in a thread on the draft board. BB has always loved Arrington, and he's only 28. I think most people thought he wouldn't play out his contract (I screamed as loud as anyone when the Pats gave him his current deal), but the Pats' secondary clearly benefits from having a variety of players that BB can mix and match to tailor the matchup against a given opponent. Arrington is a big part of that. He will be 30 when his contract expires in 2017. I could see the Pats possibly extending him by a year or two to lower is 2015 cap hit a bit.

What was legal? Raiola going for Moore's knees?? No, it wasn't. It was clearly intent to injure and he said as much after the game..
If Raiola had said nothing, I suspect that there would be no fine.

We add Chandler Jones and Siliga, and Mayo next year. I think that this is indeed a top defense if Easley continues to improve. BTW, this presumes re-signing Chung, Ayers, Branch and Casillas. Of course, it also presumes that Revis is still here.

Jones, Ninkovich, Wilfork
HT Mayo Collins
Revis Browner McCourty (one you missed on your list to be resigned)
and whatever the rest of the defensive roster filling in around that is good by me.

The D has lost two of its top 5 players, and its still this good. Really impressive.

Revis is the key though - he changes the way we can play on the back-end. Need him healthy, and need him re-signed.

Ayers and Blount have been two of the best "scrap heap" pick-ups by Belichick in a few years. Ayers meshes extremely well into this defense. We already know what we have with Blount.

my only thoughts on the game are that if we never see that ref team again it will be too soon.

two games, two HORRIBLY biased ref jobs.

The offenseive PI on gronk.

the ticky tack block in the back on minitrons return td, numerous other ******** calls, and a complete lack of calls on the lions.

Browner was EXCELLENT yesterday. Now, we know that he had help over the top on Megatron, but I think he was as good yesterday as Revis. I read that they were 1-10-17 yards targetting Revis (which makes them 2-16-22 yards in the last 2 games) and I have seen Browner numbers but for the majority of the game they weren't even trying to throw on him.

Now Chasa. Come on.. You're letting your bias show through. Just listen to Belichick8384 and put the blame where it belongs.. On the players.. You're talking conspiracies, otherwise.. [/sarcasm]

Come on, referees are not bias.
I haven't seen a good replay of the Chung penalty, but he looked right at the ref and held his hands up as if to say 'I didn't touch him' but really saying 'you caught me'. I wonder how much of the call was because of that. Anyone have a good clip?

The PI call on Gronk was terrible. The call on Chung during the punt return was fine. Whether he pushed him or not, his hands were on him and the gunner fell to the ground. Refs see that and they're going to call the block in the back penalty.

Wheelman - Take a look at the list I posted earlier in the thread.. I've seen better officiating in a WWE wrestling match than what we were subjected to yesterday..

The D is better without Mayo, I hate to say it....

No. The D is better because they added Browner. Not because they lost Mayo. Next, you're gonna say the D is better without Chandler Jones as well.. *sigh*

it looked like he dove to try to tackle Edelman and missed

The addition of Browner has been key to the secondary. Just think of the fact that we don't even have to line Revis up with the opposition's best WR, and that tells you all you need to know.

Understanding that he's receiving some help over the top, but then again, so do a lot of CBs.

I expected Browner to be a great addition for physicality purposes etc, but his coverage game has been even better than I ever envisioned.

I think you missed one:

Belichick8384 - You can disagree all you want but that doesn't change the fact that you're wrong about the Pats "lack of discipline".

The refs clearly missed the holding by Pettigrew on the 1st play of the game that sprung Tate.
Three plays later on Tate's 17 yard pass play, there is a clear pick (Offensive Pass Interference) by #10, Corey Fuller I believe.
The Holding Call on Vollmer was ridiculous because his hands stayed inside the defensive players shoulders and he didn't grab the jersey.
They refs missed the entire Detroit Defensive line being lined up off-sides on the 3rd and 5 that resulted in a pass to Edelman.
The Holding call on Chung when he supposedly held Fauria was complete fiction. Chung never had the jersey. There was contact inside the 5 yards, but that was it.
The refs missed an illegal hands to the face by the D-lineman that was tied up with Wendell on Blount's 1st TD.
The Detroit RT had his hands on Ninkovich's facemask on the swing pass to Joique Bell that was blown up 3 yards behind the LOS.
The Holding Call on Collins was another work of fiction. Collins didn't grab the jersey nor hold the receiver.
The Offside call that they claimed was Collins was actually #55 Ayers.
The flag on Arrington in the 2nd Half was another work of fiction.
The False Start on Lafell was garbage. Lafell had literally just taken his stance when the side judge threw. He had never been set. So to claim a false start was ludicrous.
Vince Wilfork got dragged to the ground in the 2nd half on a play where he was clean up the middle and would have plastered Stafford and no call was made.
The OPI on Gronkowski was another work of fiction. Gronkowski and Levy collided within the 5 yards and then Levy held Gronkowski from getting away. Calling off-setting penalties there was pure BS.

I don't have a problem with you "disagreeing", but you should, at least offer up some substance to your disagreement..

BTW, if they had called that obvious pick, it would've been 3rd and 15 instead of 1st down.

I will say I hope to god to never see Corrente's crew ref another game for us this year. He is neck in neck for worse ref crew with Boger.
I hate Jeff Tripplette even more (he was doing the Denver game yesterday). How that guy has a job as a ref is beyond me...
