I agree the refs missed some calls. I'm not disputing that. I just don't share the same philosophy of blaming everyone else for things some players did.

You can over analyse all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that the pats keep committing dumb penalties that they shouldn't be. They can play a lot better. And as good as they are, that says a lot.

Who is blaming everyone else for the things the players did? Not me. I didn't say every call that the refs made was a bad one. I just pointed out the ones they missed and had wrong.

Your claim that I am over-analyzing this is a joke. I broke down the plays on the calls that happened. Your original claim was that the Pats were lacking discipline with all the penalties. I refuted that with actual proof of what happened. You disagreed and offered nothing in return. You've still offered nothing, in all honesty.

The only "dumb" penalties the Pats took today were the 2 on special teams. The one on Chung and the one on Bolden. Both were illegal blocks in the back.. Chungs was marginal since it was the shoulder. Bolden's wasn't. He flat out hit the guy from behind and took him down..

By comparison, the Lions took truly dumb penalties in the form of the penalty on Mosley for striking Aiken in the head with his helmet and Lucas for throwing Zach Moore to the ground and then deciding to drop onto Moore. Those are dumb penalties.

It would seem to me that your philosophy is to make blanket statements without any facts and then accuse others of "over-analyzing things". If you want to actually talk about what happened at the game instead of generalizing without using any facts, let me know. It will be refreshing..

I actually agree the Lions had equally dumb penalties on their side. But we can't really rely on that to happen to the rest of the teams the pats are up against.

Just saying, if they commit penalties like that against the Packers they won't get off so easy. Green Bay can capitalise on offense much more efficiently than Detroit.

Brady seemed a bit off. Shoulda seen the safety on the pick he tried to force into Gronk. Overthrew Squirrel on an open deep pass. Another pass coulda been picked but was dropped.
I love criticizing a guy completing 2/3rds of his passes, 2 TDs and 349 yards. :)
The receivers also dropped some passes that they shouldn't have.

The int was a poor decision but I still think Gronk may have caught that if no DPI.

Gotta disagree with you Big-T. Ihedigbo had that pass intercepted because it was actually behind Gronkowski. It was a bad throw by Brady. I do agree that it should have been DPI and a 1st down for the Pats..

Another bad call was on the Logan Ryan Interception where they called Harmon for "blocking low".. Harmon went at the guys thighs..
How was it behind him if Ihedigbo intercepted before Gronk got there because he was held?

I still think it was a bad decision but it may have not been intercepted if Gronk was allowed to run his route.

Still not the best throw.

Overall it was a boring game but a solid win.

The run D was good. They found a way to get some yards against us in some weird ways (QB runs and end arounds) but we shut down their main RB.

The Pass D though good was helped by the incompetence of Stafford and the Lions WRs that dropped a lot of balls. It was still a good showing but could have been more competitive.

Blount is making his presence felt and seems like he will be able to contribute here in his roll.

Brady was amazing for a stretch this season but has fallen back down to earth a bit the last 2 games. He will hopefully get back on track a bit before playoffs. Still playing well enough but he is missing a lot of deep throws and has 2 passes that could have been intercepted by Inhedigbo (1 was). Hopefully he will get past this and be playing his best ball in the playoffs.

Injuries don't look too serious but i will be interested to see the Wednesday report.

This game showed teams can limit Gronk if they focus on it but Lafell/Edelman/Wright/Vereen proved they can win 1v1 if you do that. Brady needs to stop trying to force it to Gronk if it is not there. That has caused him problems in the past and bit him in the ass this game.

The most impressive thing about this win for me was the OL play. They were able to spring a few runs but more importantly gave brady good protection against one of the most feared DL men in the game. Bodes well for them. Stork again held up well.

The DL got more pressure this game than last game i think. I would need to see a break down of it but I think everyone had a good impact.
Just one minor point, Brady coming back to earth a bit is partially attributable to his guys dropping a lot of passes and stupid penalties.

Don't get me wrong Brady has been perfect, but if fans want to critique his play he should not be held accountable for the bad drops.

JE, Gronk, et al have had some uncharacteristic drops recently.

Brady's first half stats were impeccable...Pats fans ability to be ridiculously anal retentive is also legendary.

I know there's a lot of you that so want to go back to the KC game and all that whining and crying and I told YOU so's...maybe you can all hold off until after the GB game and then don your chicken suits and get your foghorns ramped up.

It was legal. So no fine.

Good win for the pats.

Defense played really well. Offense could have been sharper.

We need to have all three phases clicking next week in Green Bay.

Sunday marked the 14-year anniversary of Brady’s NFL debut. He completed one of three passes for six yards in a 34-9 loss at Detroit in mop-up duty relieving starter Drew Bledsoe in a Thanksgiving game on Nov. 23, 2000. Sunday brought the same opponent and the same score, but with a different winner.

Eerie!

I saw:

1. Stafford is creative but kind of inaccurate and he throws a wobbly ball sometimes.
2. Some GREAT secondary play, lots of batted away balls, but a lot of drops by the DET receiving corps too.
3. Good pressure by DET's front line but their secondary is very handsy and grabby and they're going to get called for that.
4. NE's top four receivers are a heavy load for any D, especially in the no huddle. They moved away from them in the second half to salt some clock but they really were having their way with a solid D.
5. Our D got some good pressure on Stafford too.

Overall a good solid win against a tough team playing on the road.

So was the steelers safety jumping the formation. Player safety issue on what is generally treated a no contest play. There should be a fine.

Changing your name to Brady's Butt Boy?

My take on the Lions' drops is that they were (a) distracted by tight coverage by Pats DBs arms in their field of view and (2) hearing footsteps, intimidated. Great job by both the pass rush and the DBs.

There should be ca fine on the hit to the snapper. Was the center jumper fined?

I think a couple of drops today, on both sides, were a because of the sun being in the "receivers' eyes".

For me, the way games are officiated this year leaves me unable to consistently evaluate the way either teams or individuals play within the rules. I consistently see penalties called on plays where execution appears flawless even on replays. I'm just guessing these days.

@jeffphowe
The Patriots defense posted a board in the meeting room this week with "trash talk" from Lions claiming they were NFL's best defense...

@jeffphowe
...Revis said they used that as motivation and called some of the Lions' comments a "slap in the face."

I love that. There seemed to be a good amount of trash talk from the Pats during the game and Blount was pretty animated after his last TD.

Agree the refs were awful and one sided. It shows how good this team is though when there is that much a disparity in big penalties/penalty yardage and you STILL blow a team out. A good team at that.

This defense posted it's best performance to date. They were beating Stafford up and it showed. I believe that fourth down run where he missed it by a yard because he decied to slide rather than dive was a direct result of our physicality. Revis is awesome, would love if they found a way to keep him and Browner around at least a few more years.

That defense, coupled with Ryan Allen, really bailed us out with the early offensive struggles. Coming out of that sequence with just a three point defecit and our offense getting to start a drive from our thirty-five despite not moving at all the first couple drives, made a huge difference that normally goes unnoticed because the offense did get rolling after that.

Offense did disappointin the second half, though it was good seeing Blount running well late. HOPEFULLY Gray's punishment is short-lived because those two will make a heck of a combo.

Amendola plays a big role on KR. I know the popular opinion is that KR barely matters anymore, but it really can and you never know when a big return can give a much needed boost. Of course, he's quite overpaid as a KR but hopefully they find a solution in the offseason or find a cheaper option. He's a considerable downgrade from Edelman on PR, but I don't mind reducing the toll on Edelman, I feel like he's taking way too many hits.

Praying that Lafell is okay. Really need him next couple weeks.
I have **** on Amendola a lot in the past and I'm far from high on him but he has carved out a nice role on this team. He has contributed on special teams and had some key catches in the last month. I am happy with his contributions at this point and am glad to see us getting production from all 46 players on the active roster, that is the thing that reminds me of the early 2000s is the depth players making plays that matter like Amendola's KR today and Logan Ryan's INT, etc.

Other secondary players to take note of are:

Ryan Wendell has solidified the RG position and is playing like a top 15 RG in the NFL, he is one of the best on the move interior OL in the NFL when run blocking.

James Develin has developed into one hell of a FB, I remember the first 5-6 games of last season he was awful but props to Belichick for sticking with him and obviously seeing his potential.

Kyle Arrington is a really good slot CB. I have argued against that in the past saying it was hype, but I was wrong.

Let's not forget the best gunner to ever play in the NFL Matthew Slater. The combo of him, Don Jones, Nate Ebner is scary good on ST coverage.
