Here Comes Dobsonmania

I think they have talents others don't (I love La Fell, but am not sold on him as a deep threat). I'd be happy to see one or both worked into a package even if it's seldom used. One or two big plays at crucial times can define a season, certainly a playoff game.

Bill and Josh agree that they need a player active for those one or two key plays. The question is whether either Tyms or Dobson are "decent receivers" even for those few reps.

I'd like to see them both in some sort of package. why not?

It's Dobsons time. I am sure he
is hungry. Let's see what he has

You ask why not. You seem to want both of them active.

1) Having both active would use a roster spot that Belichick thinks is needed elsewhere. After all, he has had one of them inactive for many weeks. One of our top special teamers was inactive last week. I certainly would rather have Jones active than have both Tyms and Dobson active.

2) Yes, my preference is to give the 3-5 reps to Wright instead of Tyms or Dobson. There is only one ball. If Tyms or Dobson is on the field, another player comes off. I would note that this is simply my preference. Josh and Bill disagree. They believe that the Tyms/Dobson option is important to use a few times a game. For me, this doesn't keep the defense honest unless the players actually succeed once in awhile. For me, having Tyms in the lineup instead of Amendola limits rather than increasing our play calling options. Part of problem may be the ineffectiveness of Tyms. I just don't see him as better in this minimal role )if there is to be one) than Thompkins or Dobson.

They're both on the roster. They could deactivate someone, a running back or anyone, really. They are a game plan offense. why not use all resources against a team with suspect secondary depth?

I wonder if all NFL fans obsess this much about their team's #4 and #5 WR's, or if it's just us.

Nope. Jets fans don't obsess over their WRs. They don't have any.

I think that 9 targets are enough for one game. My preference is to use Wright more.

4 WR's
1 RB
1 FB
3 TE's

The active roster is a zero sum game. There is indeed a cost of having marginal producers like Tyms and Dobson active. Last week, Jones was inactive. I understand that Fleming will be inactive, so we'll likely only have 7 OL's active.

We have a different opinion. You would rather have both Tyms and Dobson active, with Jones presumably inactive. I'd rather have the additional special teams help. For me, one of Tyms or Dobson is enough.

I don't think it's fair to expect every single WR on the team to be putting up good numbers, what type of numbers do you think would fall under your definition of "producing" this far into the season while considering how the Pats game plan for each team?

I agree with what you're saying, but I think you're taking my comment/response way out of context. Go back and look at who I quoted and you'll understand the point.

Unfortunately, looking at the FA list for next season ... there isn't much available.

Randall Cobb, Jeremy Maclin, Dez Bryant, Demarius Thomas, even Larry Fitzgerald will need to re-work his contract....it's actually the greatest free agency class at the position of WR that we've seen in quite sometime in my opinion.

As you said, it's doubtful that we sign any of them, but the FA class at WR will be fairly deep.

It is not my opinion, it is just a suggestion, since they are on the roster, that they might work a special package against a certain team. They are a game plan offense. for any particular team, lots of players at all positions will not be used. This would require one player be deactivated for one game.

I am not suggesting they do it, but if they wanted to, they could have Wright, Tyms and Dobson active for one game. Mathematically, it is not difficult if that's what they wanted to do for one game.

First, that is not true. You are referring to the effect on the 2015 cap and ignoring the dead money.

Second, there is no reason to believe that Amendola would accept a new contract from the patriots at $2M for 2015 services. Of course, his acceptance would depend on the new bonus and other terms of the contract.
If Amendola is not willing to accept a pay cut, he will either be traded just like Mankins was earlier this season, or outright cut just like Kelly was earlier this season.

True.

And I understand that many of you don't think that Amendola will be able to get work.

My point is that if and when we cut Amendola, we will have a top off-season need at WR.

Personally, I would rather keep Amendola than depend on Dobson, Tyms and whoever else we can sign in free agency. But, $4M should be able to buy another free agent.

Danny Amendola may be able to find work, but the reality may be at the veteran minimum on a one year deal just like Tommy Kelly.

I guess Dobsonmania will have to wait another week.

Tymsanity today vs the Lions

Hopefully he actually catches a pass

Plot twist: Dola goes for 150yds

Yup. If the foot was 100% ready , this would have been a perfect game for him to contribute.

I can wait - - they screwed up last year by making him play in that last game of 2013 against Buffalo.

With Lafell down, could we actually see Dobson next week?o_O

Sad that he can't even pass 2 WRs that had 0 receptions today when Brady threw it 50 times...
