2015 NFL Mock Drafts

I think none of you has any appreciation of the value that BB got in Alan Branch.

And I think you are wrong. we appreciate it fine, but there's nothing about Branch that is carved in stone. He's played a handful of snaps, he's a FA at the end of the year and he has a very recent arrest on his record. A number of us have said we'd like to re-sign him and we like his potential on this defence but there is zero guarantee that he is here next year and we mock accordingly.

I've always liked Alan Branch, and am cautiously optimistic about him. Of course, I was cautiously optimistic about Tommy Kelly, too.

1. Malcolm Brown Texas, DT
2. Cameron Erving FSU, OT/C
3a. Justin Hardy, East Carolina, WR
3s. Jeff Huermann, Ohio State, TE
4t. Jake Ryan, Michigan, OLB
4b. Preston Smith, Miss State, DE
6. David Johnson, N. Iowa, RB
6s. Jake Smith, Louisville, C

Excellent mock! I have always liked jake smith, but with the kid from Florida state having a great rookie year, I never saw how to make it work in our lineup with smith.

With 25 career starts at guard, and thirteen more recent starts at center, the All-AAC first-teamer, Smith, enters his redshirt senior year on several watch lists including both the Outland Trophy (best interior lineman) and the Rimington Award (best center).

Jake Smith is more than just an offensive center.

Unfortunately every time I see him, like today against notre dame, he is at center, so I can't evaluate him as a guard.

I like what a see at center, but he is no where near the player stork is.
Ryan Wendell only has one year left on his contract. One could justify drafting a potential backup center one year ahead of schedule.

Time for an update.

Assumptions:

- Pats' re-sign/extent Devin McCourty, Darrelle Revis, Akeem Ayers, Alan Branch, Jonathan Casillas, Shane Vereen, James Develin and Dan Connolly.
- Pats get 3rd and 6th round comp picks.

1. Malcolm Brown - DT - Texas. 6'2" 320#. VW's successor.
*** Pats trade their 2nd and TB's 4th to move up to around #50
2. Danielle Hunter - DE/OLB - LSU. 6'6" 245#. Barkevious Mingo II, but stronger. I think he'll be better than Randy Gregory.
3. Jake Fisher - OL - Oregon. 6'6" 300#. I think he could be Kyle Long II. Plays with a nasty disposition.
3 (comp). Jaquiski Tartt - S - Stamford. 6'1" 218#.
4. Jarvis Harrison - OL - Texas A&M. 6'3" 325#. Or Laken Tomlinson, OG, Duke (6'3" 320#).
6 (from TB). MyCole Pruitt - TE - Southern Illinois. 6'3" 255#. Competition for Hooman.
6 (comp). Kasen Williams - WR - Washington. 6'2" 220#. Competition at split end.
7 (from Tenn). Stephone Anthony - ILB - Clemson. 6'2" 245#. Depth at LB.

No TJ Clemmings, Bud Dupree, Dante Fowler, Shawn Oakman. :( But tons of talent and versatility.

Tweak, with the same assumptions:

1. Danielle Hunter - DE/OLB - LSU. 6'6" 245#. Barkevious Mingo II, but stronger. I think he'll be better than Randy Gregory. Possibly with a very small trade back into the top of the 2nd round.
2. Cameron Erving - OL - Florida St. 6'5" 308#. 5 position offensive lineman with athleticism and upside.
3. Jake Fisher - OL - Oregon. 6'6" 300#. I think he could be Kyle Long II. Plays with a nasty disposition.
3 (comp). Marcus Hardison - DT/DE - Arizona St. 6'4" 300#. A Manx pick, with athleticism and versatility. Could end up going higher, but I'll slot him here for now.
4 (from TB). Jaquiski Tartt - S - Stamford. 6'1" 218#. Big safety who can hit and cover.
4. Tyler Croft - TE - Rutgers. 6'5" 240#. Competition for Hooman.
6 (from TB). David Johnson - RB - Northern Iowa. 6'2" 229#. More competition at RBBC.
6 (comp). Kasen Williams - WR - Washington. 6'2" 220#. Competition at split end.
7 (from Tenn). Stephone Anthony - ILB - Clemson. 6'2" 245#. Competition for James Morris for depth at LB.

I'd probably still go with the first variant, but depending on who is on the board this is a nice alternative.

Thank you for the Hardison pick.

I watched a bit of Cameron Fleming yesterday. Whilst I'm still much higher on Clemmings and Scherff, I'm sold on Fleming as an excellent tier two pick. at OG.

I assume you mean Cameron Erving?

I'm also higher on Clemmings and Scherff, but both will go too high right now. If either is on the board near where we pick they deserve very serious consideration.

I watched hunter against Arkansas and he looks like he has everything but is so slooooooow off the snap. Its rare the snap where he isnt the last guy to get there.

Someone to keep tabs on for sure.

Doh!

I haven't seen him yet but I have seen this criticism of Hunter elsewhere. I don't know how serious the issue is though. If Mayo recommends him then I'm certainly looking forward to watching him.

To be clear, I haven't watched enough film of Hunter to go all in on him. That would certainly be a potential concern.

Just saw a 3 round Mock on Walter Football having us pick at #32 and draft...
32. Shawn Oakman, DE, Baylor
64. Rashad Greene, WR, FSU
96. DJ Humphries, OT/G, UF
Obviously very pleased although it may not be realistic, Oakman is a top 10 talent and possibly top pass rusher with a few red flags, Greene is a legitimate deep threat and outside weapon to gel with LaFell, Edelman, and Gronk, and Humphries is a versatile linemen to provide depth...also picking at #32, love this mock

Big fan of both Malcolm Brown and Zach Hodges so I love those picks. Godson and Harrison look to be good value picks and I can't really talk about the rest (although I'm not a fan of Corey Robinson). Very nice job with the first four picks.

Thanks Manx, this is really just a fun exercise since I don't follow college football too much, kind of like John Idzik with a draft guide.

Interesting thing about Golson is he was an 8th round pick of the Red Sox as a CF a few years ago.
