Dobson hasn't been on an injury report for quite some time. Might be time to stop using that excuse.
Who knows what the deal is with Dobson but the injury report is an art not a science. It's extremely possibly that he's appropriately not on the injured list but still can't cut as precisely as need be. Whether that would be something that should be reported as an injury, who knows.

Lol the "injury report".

A lot of players have drops. His came at a very bad moment. Jitters, over hyped? I really hope he gets another chance and becomes the player I've been convinced he will be. We eventually have to strike gold with a deep threat, right? It's been too long.
Totally agree. I mean, let's get real. He dropped one pass. ONE! That's not a significant indicator.

Tyms has run poor routes, missed blocks and had drops, and has done all that in very limited snaps. That's not a recipe for success in NE.

When did he miss a block?

And he is still playing, with Dobson game day inactive.

Dobson must really be stinking the place out during practice,

I agree. Dobson must be stinking up the place in practice.

Dobson is NOT on the injury listed and is NOT limited in practice. So, Dobson is practicing, with full participation.

What does it mean that he is not active, even to see whether some production is there? It is really hard to imagine him being projected to produce less than Tyms on 2-5 reps a game. Dobson knows the routes and did OK as a rookie.

As long as Edelman, LeFell and Amendola remain healthy, the 4th active WR doesn't matter much. But this situation points to an extreme lack of depth.

Somehow, I hate to make this comment, but I will. Amendola is the clear #3 WR on this team. He does his job and is trusted to run his routes, make the occasional reception, and fill in for more reps when there is an injury. And he returns punts and kicks when asked to do so. I expect him to be back there with Blount this week.

The more I consider this situation, the more I expect no change in Amendola's 2015 contract, at least not until we add a WR (perhaps another LaFell).

I'd rather see Dobson

Can someone please help me to why i keep thinking this will be his best game with the Patriots ?!!:)
Could he be the secret formula against the best D in the League ? Are they good covering the deep ball ?
Its only my gut feeling that he will make a huge contribution in hopefully a great win.
GO PATS.
I suspect that it's just as likely he's inactive this game and Dobson gets a shot, given his screwups last game.

I just feel like the major issue holding back Dobson this year is the fact that the med staff waited until the spring to do his foot operation. They wanted to to see if they could avoid surgery and they lost on that gamble.
Had the surgery taken place in January when he was already on the shelf, he'd be back in by now and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I suspect that the decision to do screws and pins surgery on a foot injury carries with it some significant risk that the player will never recover to an NFL level of running/cutting performance. Foot surgery is just not a good thing. Things don't heel well in there and the trauma of surgery and screws and pins might well add new items to the list of things that aren't healing quickly.

If in doubt, seeing if rest and rehab will solve the problem before surgery is a sound approach. The bad news for Aaron Dobson is when the conservative approach didn't work and he had to go for surgery. At that point, his future became a question mark.

I don't know. Seems like two guys competing for the fourth WR slot is an extreme presence of depth! :)

Calvin Johnson in his prime battling Larry Fitzgerald in his prime would be "an extreme presense of depth". This is Tyms v. Dobson.

Yes, on your team those two would be depth players. I'm sure you'd find some even more expensive starters.:D

I like Tyms, but c'mon
He gets the 1st play of the drive in an important nationally televised game and drops a long gain 1st down pass. You don't get multiple do overs. He needs to shine in practice and more importantly CATCH the next ball hitting his hands in a game, assuming he gets open in the correct route.

Fro some reason I saw his name and "Brain Myst" came to mind.

I think I need more sleep.

TBH, I think I'd rather see Wright supplant Amendola in the receiver pecking order than either Tyms or Dobson.

In 20 targets (according to ESPN's stats), Amendola has caught 11 balls for 95 yds and a TD. In just as many targets, over far fewer snaps -- less than I half, I expect, without looking -- Wright has caught 18 balls for 184 yards and 4 TDs.

I too would prefer Wright get more reps, instead of Tyms or Dobson.

Right now the Pats run with Gronk, Edelman, Vereen, and LaFell as the top receivers. Any remaining snaps are split among Amendola, Wright, Tyms, and Dobson. For now, Dobson is out and we don't know why, but LaFell has won those snaps. Edelman is supposedly banged up too, but Amendola or Wright probably get any of those snaps. Not a lot left over.

So, Tyms is getting snaps as a decoy or deep threat only. He's kind of being used like Slater, eg one shot here and there.

The good news is, with that role, he only needs one catch to have a big game. The bad news is, he has only one catch all year. That drop was pretty egregious too.

Wouldn't mind if OP's gut is right. Kind of think Tyms needs to add to his repertoire, and to improve at his main role, to stick. Otherwise he has to beat out LaFell and Dobson for snaps, which I don't see happening.

Coincidence that I'm reading this thread and rewatching the Colts game as the Brady/Tyms int came on the screen. Tyms had the coverage beat, and if Brady had everything on the throw, it looked as though everything would have lined up nicely. Vollmer blew the play by allowing inside pressure after Gronk released INSIDE of the DE. Dunno how you let that happen.

It does say something that Brady has the confidence to throw that seam route to Tyms over the safeties a couple times now. It must have worked a few times in practice. It would be a useful weapon if it can happen, and I don't see any other recievers on our roster offering a more consistent threat in that area..... including *gasp* dobson.
