Where is the "cry bitter tears of longing into my luke warm morning coffee as I pine for days gone by" option? Cuz I didn't see that one on the poll options list.
Should I add it?

Let's get a qb who can't manage a game. Seems to be lots of those.

Talking with the one sane jets fan on the jets suck thread made me think of this. In 5 years when Brady retires with 6 rings as the unquestioned GOAT and knowing that he is a once in a lifetime talent so the pats probably won't get another elite top 3 QB what kind of QB do you want to follow him? A cheap game manager that you can build a team around like Alex Smith? Or an explosive QB that you give weapons to like Matt Ryan?

Am I the only one who finds it really comical that the guy considered the "sane" jets fan is the who expects them to lose every game until they draft Marriota or Hackenburg, which will automatically hand them a Super Bowl?

While the rational part me understands that Brady won't be playing football at an elite (and yes he is currently elite in my opinion) level forever, I'd rather not consider the possibility at the moment and I'm enjoying the year.

Have a good day as I'm off to consider something much less painful, like getting my fingernails ripped off with pliers.

Edit: While Brady is that once in a generation type QB, I think BB will have a suitable replacement.

I know this is not a choice, I truly feel that Jimmy G will be the man. BB is building a strong D and a strong O line. When Tom GOAT Brady hangs up his spikes Jimmy G will be able to step in and keep the Pats rolling. He will not be Brady, but he will be a solid NFL QB with the potential of becoming a star.

so what you're saying is Alex smith is Chad pennington?

Alex Smith is a poor man's Chad Pennington. Pennington may have had the most accurate arm in NFL history, albeit without the ability to throw deep. Alex Smith wouldn't have been as successful with the team Chad Pennington had around him, and nor would he be successful with the team Matt Ryan has. Julio Jones would be completely wasted in an Alex Smith-led offense, for instance.

I disagree. A typical Alex Smith day might look like 25/32 220 yards and a TD. While a typical Matt Ryan day looks like 35/50 334 yards 3 TD and an int. Who is the better QB? Idk a lot depends on the rest of the football team. I think Ryan has to win shootouts while Smith plays to the strength of his system and let's the team win the game.
You are comparing players by making up stats that aren't theirs and asking who is better? Really?

Give me someone like Matt Ryan all day. Being a "game manager" just means you really arent that good of a QB. Someone like Matt Ryan could do what Alex Smith does. Matt Ryan can hand the ball of every play, he can check it down to the RB or throw a 4 yard pass every play. A "game manager" cant do what someone like Matt Ryan can do.

Thank you, Mrs Bledsoe.

When you are watch other NFL games you realize how lucky we are to have what we have, not only is Brady an excellent game manager, but an excellent qb as well. Time after time when I watch other teams there is no clock awareness... they play the game lackadaisical with no sense of clock management. I often notice that when other teams play us... we are conditioned to that part of the game.

This is what this team does extremely well, along with many other things.. so my vote for the next qb would be a game manager who can play QB... not sure who that would be, but if Brady goes another 5 it probably will not be Jimmy G.

Can we clone #12???

I saw this post early, so I poured some coffee and had 12 bong hits. Now Matt Ryan sounds like a perfectly suitable replacement for Tom Brady:rolleyes:.

I'm sure Julian Edelman would know the playbook more than anyone else by that point and be ready to step up. Heck he could even run the routes, too. He'll only be 32 or so.

Julian was probably born 5 years too early. These days, the rules favor quarterbacks and wide receivers more than ever before, and his 5'10" or 5'11" height will not be a disadvantage. Especially when he would be throwing to monsters like Gronk who he would be able to see over anyone's heads at any height. :)

If a team wanted to try out Julian at quarterback, that would not be crazy. Especially since 5 years from now, the rules may favor quarterback safety even more.

The fact he played with the GOAT (wide receiver just one of many other positions like kick returner and defense he never played prior to the NFL) is great in three ways: he has the game experience with the GOAT, he can pick up new skills, and he may possible be good enough to start for some teams, it's just that you'd never know since he was a QB drafted under a team that's already lead by the GOAT.

Julian was drafted as a QB and yet he's on the field with Brady and the rest of the backup QB's and even special teams, because no other QB is that versatile.

Assuming we found a good WR replacement for him (such as a second Gronk!), and our coaches had experience with mobile quarterbacks, I believe Julian would be able to get us to the playoffs.

Mallett, all the tools + chip on shoulder.

You asked.......

Hopefully Brady successor is still in high school.

Yes I made up what a typical day for each QB looks like. Do you disagree with my numbers? How about instead of being condescending you add something to the discussion like what kind of QB you would want if you don't like my choice.

Fair enough. I would want (assuming I can't have a Brady Rodgers manning) the game manager because I think it's cheaper and easier to build the rest of the team instead of spending on weapons. I believe its easier to shut down an explosive offense then to outscore a deep balanced team that doesn't make mistakes

I think the problem with that is that you're basically describing the Kansas City Chiefs. And yeah, they're a good team, but does anyone seriously think they're going to win a Super Bowl? I sure don't, because eventually they're going to run into a playoff matchup where someone *will* score 30 points on them, and I have no faith in their offense--and, ultimately, their QB--to keep up. The current rules make it basically impossible to win a Super Bowl if you can't win a high-scoring shootout when necessary. You would have to be so dominant defensively--like last year's Seahawks--that you'd inspire yet another lifeline-for-Manning rule change.

Fundamentally, I guess I just think that the 2009 Saints, 2010 Packers, 2011 Giants, 2012 Ravens model--pair a good defense with an explosive offense that, if it gets hot at the right time can just rip through four matchups and outscore anyone--is a lot more replicable than the 2013 Seahawks model. And that's only becoming more true as rules get pushed further and further in favor of passing offenses.

Bellichick positioned us well for the future with Jimmy G. I can't imagine not having Bill Bellichick in the future as coach. We have been blessed with the most amazing coach in NFL history. I will miss him more than anything. I continue to be astonished how he pulls a team of misfits together every year and beats teams we have no business beating and gives us a shot every year at going to the playoffs and beyond. Bellichick and Brady have done great things but the true reason for the Pats success has been Bellichick.

Came in to vote "kill myself" but surprisingly that is not an available option. @Haley 's option is close enough I guess, I'll pick that.

If BB is in charge : Alex Smith all the way.

I think BB can win with Smith. Hell, other coaches have been hugely successful record-wise with Smith. Doesn't make stupid plays, good enough to make a few plays, I like him.

JG might be something. If he ends up following TFB, and is Alex Smith, we should be so lucky.
