Blount Released

I'm not a Goodell defender, but this personal conduct policy is being horribly butchered in discussion.

First, whoever was in charge of handing out the discipline would be criticized by one side or the other.
Second, so much of the discussion is just wrong.
Due process and fairness and equality in punishment are not part of Goodells responsibility as given to him by the league.
He is there to handle these issues from a PR standpoint. No more, no less. More publicity and outrage should result in a stiffer penalty. His job is not to be fair to the players. His job is to exact a punishment that sends a message to the public about the NFLs opinion on the character of its players.

He really isn't handling things inconsistently, because he is consistent within the responsiblities given him and the goals of the personal conduct program. I can understand people thinking the goals should be different and that concepts such as innocent until proven guilty, due process, and equality in punishment should be part of it, but thats just not what this is.
This is the NFL, having negotiated unilateral power in punishing players for actions considered harmful to the image and reputation of the league in order to mitigate the damage the players, by committing horrendous crimes caused to the leagues image and reputation.
Actually, Goodell is doing a fine job of butchering the personal conduct "policy" (and I use that VERY loosely) all on his own. The only reason I ****ed my eyebrow in this thread was Miguel pointing out the change in the waiver claim reporting, which apparently happened a couple weeks ago after the initial Rice and Peterson backlash and before the Peterson ruling while peoples attention were diverted elsewhere.

The real meat of my original question was whether or not Blount being claimed would have any impact on our "projected" comp picks, and if so what could the potential implications be. More or less I was hoping to get a more in depth answer on how it may effect what is widely believed to be a 3rd. I didn't intend for it to become a referendum on Goodells secret backroom dealings.

So, even you think replacing a back up running back with another back up running back gives you a 10 point improvement at that position. Big whup. You've improved your team from 2500 to 2510 points. Meaningless. And that's before you even consider what you might be giving up (coaches worrying about a known stoner getting arrested again, the lost opportunity cost of developing a 4th round draft pick with potential, etc.

The vast majority here are talking replacing BOLDEN with Blount. NOT White.

Which is extremely unlikely since Bolden is a major contributor on special teams, as well as a decent emergency option behind both Gray and Vereen.

Bolden is going nowhere. Until 2015, anyway.

I think it's a matter of deciding to carry another RB. They won't risk White by trying to sneak him on to the practice squad. They want Bolden for STs.

And what makes this less likely is that they've still got to make space for Siliga in the next week or two.

The only reason Sergio Brown was able to stick on the roster as long as he did as well.

Can't believe someone took on that salary for Tate.

When you factor in special teams, replacing Bolden with Blount would probably be a net LOSS in productivity from the game day roster. Bolden is the kind of player that you want: a major contributor on special teams AND a passable back up to two RB positions, including decent blitz pickup. Note that he is active on the gameday roster every week.

The Vikes just lost Adrian Peterson's salary for the final 6 games. They probably come out ahead of the game (although, admittedly, I don't care enough about the Minn. Vikings to bother looking up the details...)

Isnt the deadline passed to claim him?

But Tate's got another year at $2.2 million. I guess they can cut ways with him after this season without much injury, though.

Yes. I think the deadline has passed. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that news of a waiver claim would have been published. Although you would think his agent would want to get it out.

According to my Twitter feed (Adam Schefter and Ian Rapopport) Blount went unclaimed

I just saw that Blount went unclaimed. The Patriots obviously like Bolden more than we fans do. Blount would probably be the Patriots first call if somebody went down, I don't really get why the Broncos didn't have any interest. I guess Blount's behavior really turned teams off.

I'm not sure about that. They've gone out of their way to not give Bolden any snaps even after Ridley went down.

Probably just semantics, but I think a more accurate statement is, "NE sees more value of a decent back to both Gray and Vereen who can be active because he is a contributor on special teams." :)

Generally speaking, NFL teams aren't that impressed by getting busted for smoking weed on the way to the airport for the team plane to an away game and walking off the field because you aren't getting enough snaps in a winning game!

But, hey, look on the bright side. He made it through to the Pat's shadow roster.

Former Steelers RB LeGarrette Blount went unclaimed on waivers, per a source. Now free to sign anywhere.

And another reason why to not rely on a fanbase for predicting the future (certainly someone will claim him).;) I admit I got it wrong as well. But we really butcher our analyses and predictions (i.e. Wendell only plays Center, Cannon is he best option at Guard, et cetera), with few exceptions.
