Bedard Pats/Colts Film Review

The call before the half, Bruschi said that the issue was that the OL didnt sell the run well enough for the Colts line to hesitate for a bit. Stork and wendell shouldve been able to hold off on hughes. Having said that brady shouldve eaten the ball.

You have no point. You only have your "run it!" agenda, which is absolutely ridiculous.

And, yeah, the OL is supposed to stop the guys coming straight up the middle. This shouldn't be news to you.

Perhaps you should look at the play, the situation, the defensive alignment and the time on the clock, and the fact that it was a 14-3 game with 1:25 left in the half , a 3rd and 1 against a defense they were easily knocking off the LOS all game long and they were getting the ball to begin the 2nd half.

You can repeat your platitudes. I am stating what was the situation and the opponent in that particular situation.

You telling ANYONE to look at the play, situation, etc... given your agenda and proven willingness to ignore precisely the same things you're now asking others to look at, is truly one of the great ironies of our time.

The play call was fine, and the timing of the call was fine. It actually led to Gronk being in position for a possible TD. The problem was in the execution. This shouldn't be so difficult for you to process. But, again....

agenda

I think it's fine to audible and go for it if the opportunity was there. It was 2nd down, and the way the Pats were running the ball it would have been a gimme.

Was wasn't fine was throwing up a blind lame duck when the protection broke down. The primary objective should have been avoiding what actually occurred.

I think it was fine to audible, Pats are looking to score a FG or TD with their 2 minute drill. Getting the first down with 9 men in the box was doable but still left a long ways to go with probably less then a minute left on the clock. Gronk was open behind the defense and would have been a large gain if not a TD if Brady was able to complete the pass, exactly what they want from the two minute drill.

Mayo hit it right on the nose when he said "Was wasn't fine was throwing up a blind lame duck when the protection broke down. The primary objective should have been avoiding what actually occurred"

That blind lame duck pass would be something I would expect from somebody like a Mark Sanchez and not Tom Brady.

Gronk was able to get open because 9 guys were lined up to rush the QB who got hit. And then you complain that the 6 blockers couldn't correctly guess which of the 9 defenders were coming in. Pick your poison.

But, OK from your posts, it's obvious you don't want to discuss the play, you just want to go personal. Best regards.

Put Greg Bedard with the G&Z slot.
Put dan shaughnessy with dumb and dumber, win win for all.

Yep. Even before the INT it was clear that not allowing the Colts to score was more important than us scoring (up 11, getting the ball to start the 3rd qtr). Run the ball, get the first down - if you fail keep the clock moving or make them use a timeout. If we'd gotten the 1st down then get more aggressive.
Brady makes a lot of great decisions, but this one reminded me of the 2003 playoffs against the Colts at Foxboro, when in the second half, with the Pats in the lead 21-7 and the ball inside the Colts ten, with a certain Vinatieri field goal making it a three - score lead, Tom throws an interception into the end zone. BB preaches situational football, but occasionally Brady forgets.

No, we saw that a punt was not the worst possible outcome of that.

Well, yeah, but I don't think they imagined that their QB would have one of his worst plays in a decade when they drew it up - nor should I think the coaching staff have to allow for that scenario every time they call for a play.

Less than one-half of one second makes the difference in this play. That much more time for Brady to plant and launch a stronger pass, to Gronk (who is behind the defense), and we'd be celebrating the Pats' killer instinct, boldness, and amazing ability to sense and seize a moment.

Lacking that half second, and it was a dumb play call given the situation and poor execution by Brady.

Given the recent performances in playoff losses, I'm all for developing some more killer instinct and boldness. The risk is worth it.

Still waiting for ATWE's review. Can someone link to it, please?

Bedard should be on with G&Z. The back-and-forth would be vastly superior.

Bedard should be on with a prickly cactus and a bag of unusually articulate cheese curls. The back-and-forth would be vastly superior.

I'd vote for putting him on the "Deus and Rob" show. With Shmessy as a regular co-guest.

Figured this was a decent place to throw this out :

Wow, just watched Brady in 2012 and 2013. His throwing motion has definitely changed. Much tighter. More non-throwing arm control.

Might make for an interesting show if Deus covers his ears with his hands and says "Im not listening" every time Rob speaks... ;)

EDIT: Obviously, I'm poking at Deus for being rather quick to put people on Ignore (Rob in this case) but I've always respected his knowledge of football. Rob and Deus and Smessy would probably make for some great listening.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll get dueling reports from Rob and Deus - those are actually very useful, as well as entertaining.

Pretty much the Patsfans version of Elias and Barnes in the movie Platoon.
