Listen, I just go off what I see. Their pass D in a pass happy league hasn't been that bad this year, they had a bad game vs the Steelers, it happens .... the Pats had an awful game vs the Chiefs, if both teams were to play those teams again it wouldn't be that way. Their 2 losses are vs the Steelers (already went over that) and the Pats where the Pats obviously wanted to run the ball, why? because their pass D isn't bad. I never said they were a top 5 defense, but they have proved they can be pretty stingy vs the pass this season. I never said anything about the playoffs, but if they can't fix their run D then yeah, they will be probably be embarrassed again. They have half of the equation right though.
The Patriots opened up passing and passed more than ran in the first half. While this doesn't prove their game plan wasn't too run the ball it certainly makes it look like an adjustment.

How was the first not his fault? He threw into what was basically triple coverage and was pretty inaccurate with his throw. Not a great first half. He rebounded well though.
Not that it isn't his fault but he was hit when he threw. It wasn't triple coverage. The hit altered the throw and allowed the DB who got the int to get into the play.

I'll have to watch it again. He was under some pressure but I don't remember him getting hit, and I thought I remember three DBs converging. Obviously, it wasn't triple coverage but I did think he threw it into a group of three defenders. I'll be watching the all-22 later in the week, so we'll see. You could be right.
I did think he got hit on the second one.

True, and they realized the pass D wasn't that bad so they made the adjustment to run the ball a lot more

That's all I'm trying to say here, I understand this is a Patriots forum and other teams won't get much credit for anything but their pass D is not that bad.

Amazing statements against these two clubs, but this is only the beginning. We get Detroit at home, then go to Lambeau, then fly out to San Diego. The Pats are going to have to earn every single win, and hard.

I need a gif of that Gronk block
Not a GIF but I believe that's Gronk in the background kicking Sergio out of the club on this photo:

Going from memory Brady did get bumped a bit on the first int, enough so that the throw was probably a little more to the left then he intended. Even with that I think it was an underthrown ball but if it had been 3 yards further right and another yard deep tyms did have a step on two defenders and it would have been a td. Honestly on 3rd down throwing deep like that was almost a punt pinning them inside the 5 so that one did not bother me at all. The other int....boy that has to be top 5 worst pass/decision I have seen Brady make even if he was getting hit. Just take the sack then punt

It wasn't third down, it was first down at midfield after a long Gray run. It pissed me off because it had long been established that NE didn't need to get cute, plus it played into their tendencies to go for the kill in that situation, which have long been figured out.

I watched it once live so you could be right but I remembered it being third so it didn't bother me the way the 2nd one did (on my feet screaming what were you thinking?!?!?) I will agree that they clearly did not get cute as it looked like the Indy front 7 was on rollar skates all night but isn't that the benefit of a power running game? It opens up shots like that which in turn opens up more running room. That said with 3 defenders in the area perhaps there was a better option so Brady needed to play better and did in the 2nd half

BTW, I hope someone gives Dont'e Hightower some Receiver Gloves.. Next time he won't drop such an easy interception.. *LOL*

It was 1st down and Brady was under pressure but still stepped into the throw just as he got hit.

I was very unhappy with the play call at the time (regardless of the interception) because the Patriots shortest run to that point had been 7 yards. Why go for a bomb (which TB regularly overthrows by 1 foot)? This was the time to follow a more conservative and winning game plan. To the Patriots' credit, they did switch to that game plan in the second half and were rewarded with 4 TDs in their 4 meaningful possessions.

What I saw was a team that could defend the pass really well if that was all they were trying to defend. Once they adjusted to respect the run they were giving up huge gains through the air.

Their coverage only stands up for a couple seconds and even less if the LBs are supporting the run. Their pass rushers looked incapable of rushing and maintaining any gap control.

They need a run stuffing LB and a safety better than Brown. Right now they have too many holes.

DVOA must have been impressed with NE's win over Indy. The full breakdown isn't posted yet, but the "playoff odds" were updated with NE now being second in both "odds of making the playoffs" and "odds of making the SB" to Arizona and Denver respectively. As early as last week they weren't in the top 5 in either category.

The only thing I was unhappy about was the pressure that forced Brady into that bad throw. Gronk is open, first down and maybe even a TD depending on who tries to run him down. Brady had the perfect play call. No need to be conservative. Just gotta execute better.

Only the second time a Patriots Belichick team has held someone to under 20 yards rushing
