2015 Draft Prospect Thread

I have not looked a lot at actual prospects as much as just needs but here are my thoughts. Once I look at players more closely which I will in the off season I'll have a better idea of who specific I want for sure.

We didn't have a lot of spots open last year and have less this year. I want to move up. Also people here probably know last year I was willing to trade a future pick for a good player. This year I am even more willing provided a guy falls that is worth it. I am willing for them to trade a 3rd or even 2nd to move up but I want instant impact particularly on the DL somewhere and particularly for the pass rush.

Dante Fowler looks versatile and like a play maker
Alvin Dupree seems like an option too

Guys will move up and down as we learn more but I want to get a top guy whoever it is.

I am happy moving up (and have advocated it as a possibility) for one of Shawn Oakman, Alvin Dupree, Dante Fowler, Brandon Scherff, and possibly TJ Clemmings.

As others have raised, the other position of interest in this draft is DT. I'm usually a DT hog, but I've been in the "DE, not DT" group so far. But Danny Shelton, Eddie Goldman, Malcolm Brown and Ellis McCarthy are a very interesting group - all big, physical DTs, but more than just space eaters. Something to jeep in mind.

Winston is going to be a **** show. There is something not right about that kid in the head and not in a good way.

I think he'll end up going second round. I feel teams won't want to spend a pick on such a risk.

Just to add to Marinlink's post, Todd Gurley has torn his ACL. Gronk all over again if he falls to us?

I could definitely see that. Some team is going to jump on him in the second round if he falls that far.

I'm currently attending Georgia btw, and Gurley is a god around these parts. His suspension and ACL injury left many a fan with heavy hearts.

If anybody feels like catching me up on this thread, who is the defensive lineman we'll be drafting this year?

Alvin "Bud" Dupree, Kentucky. Though I'm OK with Malcolm Brown, and about 5 other guys.

I'm very out of touch with this draft class. So Brown is a DT and Dupree is a DE. Just based on that I'd take Dupree. I loved the selection of Easley last year. FINALLY! Now, I"m adamant that we need a DE. It has to happen.

Thanks for the links. I'm pretty familiar with those sites. I really wanted to gauge who Pats' fans were rooting for.
Defensive end is high on a number of poster lists.

Running back is another position of interest.

I personally want the New England Patriots to focus on the offensive line and retool the offensive guard position. Dan Connolly will be an unrestricted free agent next year. Dan Connolly will also be 33 years old once the 2015 NFL Season commences. I am not sold long term on Ryan Wendell as a starting offensive guard. Ryan Wendell only has one year left on his contract, as well.

Barker, Devey, Kline all need to be upgraded.

I concur with Bud Dupree and Malcolm Brown, two of my favourites. I would add Marcus Hardison of Arizona State, an athletic 5-tech who we will see rise fairly quickly in terms of stock. One of the most underrated prospects out there right now. I think he's a potential first rounder.

It seems that no matter what, our offensive line comes through.....unless its the Superbowl. With that being said, I'd really like us to get a defensive end to be able to switch out Ninko and Chandler. I feel for those dudes, having to bring it every play. One more, damn good lineman would make a big difference.

I think a 5 would be ideal. We need depth on the line. ASAP really. I love our current guys, but we need backups who can come in and make a difference, if not at least give our guys a breather.

The reason I have DT higher than DE on my list is because I think we'll bring Mayo back on a reduced contract. The 4-2-5 is really your base defense. He'll play one of the lb spots. Prob along with Hightower who has excelled this year. I see Jamie Collins playing more of Ninko's role going forward. A jack of all trades. Not saying it wouldn't hurt to get another pass rusher. Might be more of a situational player than a full time. Plus, rookie DT's are hardly ever ready to contribute. I'd like to get VW's replacement in this draft. Giving him a year to learn the system and get bigger and stronger. Before assuming a starter's role.

I'll also give a complete left field longshot. Andre Monroe from Maryland. Consider that there are only four players in CFB with more career sacks than him: Shane Ray, Vic Beasley, Joey Bosa and Hau'oli Kikaha. However, he's 5-11 and 286 lbs which is way less than ideal. He also destroyed the first round projected OT Brandon Scherff who we all love on here.

That's why I like Brown, and to a slightly lesser degree, Hardison. Alan Branch will be a big factor in whether we invest in a ST. If he develops well and is re-signed, that severely lessens the need I think.

Edit: Except I think Hightower rather than Collins is the potential Edge player. I prefer Collins blitIng the A gap.

There is a strong possibility to select a quality defensive end in the second round with the depth at the defensive end position in the 2015 NFL Draft:

Markus Golden
Trey Flowers
Preston Smith

The New England Patriots have the following defensive tackles under contract for the 2015 NFL Season:

Wilfork, Vince
Siliga, Sealver (ERFA)
Jones, Chris
Easley, Dominique

I am not ready to push the panic button on the defensive tackle position just yet.

I don't view Silega and Jones as starters. If you wait until VW leaves to get his replacement, you waited too long.

Could say the same thing about DE. We have Chandler, Ninko, Moore and Buchanan under contract. I don't view Buchanan and Moore as starters either. 2015 won't be Ninko's last year.
