Blount Released

from the other earlier Blount thread...

Remember just over a month ago when many of us lamenting Ridley's injury wished we'd spent the couple mill to keep Blount? Good Times!
I liked the guy and regreted we'd let him go. Right now I'd consider replacing Bolden with him at vet min plus a hundred K or so for depth*, but that's about it.

* KR for when Amandoler gets IRed

Hard to not want to bring him back @ 900k a year... Gray looks awesome but until we see him do it game after game against someone other than the Colts he's still an unknown.

Funny how people killed the Pats for not re-signing him.

I don't like that there are several big power backs being cut at a time when two of the Pats' biggest rivals for the AFC are in desperate need of a big power back.

Good thing Blount is really a giant finesse back, then. ;)

If the Raiders were smart (I know....), they'd claim both Tate and Blount.

plus, i love when deion says " nobody wanna hit that blount " lol funny ****.

How does the waiver wire work now? Not last season's draft order but some formula ranking current standings I believe.

I know right? What are the odds. Denver, Indy and even San Diego could use Tate/Blount

I have a feeling he'll make it through waivers too. Adding players this time of season is much different than the off-season. Watch the NFL pretend to act like they didn't receie a team's claim, and he goes straight to being a FA so he can sign with Denver. Plus he'll join his buddy Talib.

The Broncos could have Corey Dillon back there and still not know how to run the ball. They play 90% shotgun, 3 WRs + a receiving TE, and have never heard of a FB. All Manning wants out of his RBs is a guy to catch a dump off to pad his stats. Patchick mentioned they run the ball the 31st by percentage in the entire NFL. The Broncos problems with running the ball isn't the RBs IMO.

On the other hand, the Colts try to have a power run game, T-rich is just terrible. If I were them, I'd call Blount right now to fly in and name him the starter.

Let's remind ourselves something:

The main reason people wanted Legarette Blount back was because of his production versus the Indianapolis Colts in the playoffs. Jonas Gray just matched and exceeded that production this past week.

Rushing productivity is largely a function of the OL's play, outside of a select few backs. Sadly, Ridley was one of those backs who I do think had real value over replacement (putting aside the fumbles). Nonetheless, the point remains that Blount would offer us nothing that Jonas Gray couldn't - which is the ability to pick up the yards the OL creates for him.

And Blount is a jackass. So I'll take Jonas Gray.

I hate the Steelers but I can respect that they don't mess around when it comes to dealing with malcontents. Based on the stories of the last 24 hours it sounded like Blount was becoming a problem over there. Not one we need in this locker room IMO.

As a side note, I'm not worried about him going to Indianapolis or Denver, I'm excited about the possibility of bring him back, I know he will contribute here immediately, not sure on other teams though, Pittsburgh have a decent line and he was not getting any significant yardage.

I'll take flavor of the month Gray also, but Blount is injury depth

Blount was very, very good for this team last year.

While looking like a beast vs Indy, this is Gray's 1st experience at carrying the mail for a team. Additionally, if he gets hurt, the Pats no longer have that physical presence in the backfield.

The other this is that Blount was excellent at kickoffs last year- an area that could use a little more production...

We will find out how much of not resigning him was his attitude. If they wanted to keep him at all, they will put in a claim. I have a feeling he wore out his welcome here as well as in Pittsburgh.

Here BB talks and he says Yes Sir.

Not even close

I'd sure sign him to the Pats. Besides Grey we have showed not to have a true between the tackles runner. I don't trust Bolden to do more than STs. Signing him or Tate will give you some depth.

I would let him go through Waivers and sign him to a vet minimum or close to if one of them makes it.

I don't care if Blount was a jackass on the Steelers, what he'll do here is what mattered.

Yes, Jonas Grey is doing great but what happens if he's injured?

Sign the Beast! You can NEVER have too much firepower!

Blount has to go through the waiver process. The Broncos are low on the list. Let's hope other teams other than the Colts and Broncos put in claims for both of them.

Oh, right. Forgot vested veterans are subject to waivers after the trade deadline.

The Patriots are still behind the Broncos (and Colts) in waiver priority, though, so they can't stop him from going there.
