This was, in my opinion, the play of the night and everything that we should admire about this Patriots team. How many other receivers sprint downfield on a play that appeared to be dead, already with the game out of reach, just to throw a tremendous block that won't show up in the box score?
I used to be the biggest Edelman hater on this board- I was so very, very wrong about this guy. His development over the last few years has been absolutely remarkable. He probably won't make the pro bowl, but when you factor in his grit, blocking, punt returning, and pass catching, how many receivers in the AFC would you really take over him?
Edelman is the ultimate jack knife player. He can beat you by breaking a punt return. He can beat you on a reverse. He can clone Welker and catch 12 balls and put over 100 yards on the stat sheet (and he is better than Welker was in the red zone.) He can lineup on the inside or the outside. Heck, he can even play defensive back.
Crow has never tasted so delicious.
On another point, things have worked out well for the Patriots. Earlier this season, they were rumored to be trading for a running back, and then Jonas Gray emerges as a very solid player. They were willing to let Edelman walk two years ago and let him test the market, and they took him back as an afterthought to their prized free agent acquisition in Amendola. They made Talib a huge offer, which was turned down, and Revis fell right into their lap. Many were bummed that they bowed out of the Sanders sweepstakes and settled for LaFell, in my opinion, is a more valuable cog in the wheel.
