This was, in my opinion, the play of the night and everything that we should admire about this Patriots team. How many other receivers sprint downfield on a play that appeared to be dead, already with the game out of reach, just to throw a tremendous block that won't show up in the box score?

I used to be the biggest Edelman hater on this board- I was so very, very wrong about this guy. His development over the last few years has been absolutely remarkable. He probably won't make the pro bowl, but when you factor in his grit, blocking, punt returning, and pass catching, how many receivers in the AFC would you really take over him?

Edelman is the ultimate jack knife player. He can beat you by breaking a punt return. He can beat you on a reverse. He can clone Welker and catch 12 balls and put over 100 yards on the stat sheet (and he is better than Welker was in the red zone.) He can lineup on the inside or the outside. Heck, he can even play defensive back.

Crow has never tasted so delicious.

On another point, things have worked out well for the Patriots. Earlier this season, they were rumored to be trading for a running back, and then Jonas Gray emerges as a very solid player. They were willing to let Edelman walk two years ago and let him test the market, and they took him back as an afterthought to their prized free agent acquisition in Amendola. They made Talib a huge offer, which was turned down, and Revis fell right into their lap. Many were bummed that they bowed out of the Sanders sweepstakes and settled for LaFell, in my opinion, is a more valuable cog in the wheel.

That was a great block. He lit Adams up. Edelman is a team player and will do everything he can to help the team win. He optimizes what being a Patriot is.

Edelman may be as competitive as Brady which is great for the team

Speechless. Collinsworth practically jumped out of the booth.

Just beautiful football.

Thought Edelman showed great toughness, sticking in the game and making a huge hit despite having been dinged a few times earlier in the game. Really an attitude type play - smacking the dude who had a few int's in the 1st half. Awesome to watch - glad it was a clean hit.

I think the refs in this game "allowed" the team to play football.

Not tacky-tack contact calls...

But can he rush the passer?!?

I think he can actually... and would love to see him put into a corner blitz. :p

BTW, I think the management might be beginning to see that he is too valuable an asset to be at risk for a punt return injury and has assigned Danny Amendola to that role instead. Did you guys see Jules fielding a punt at all during the game? IF that is the case, I will miss the potential for a home run on STs but will actually feel better that he is protected for the WR role.

They make the plays needed. I see WRs all the time shy away from block like that...not on this team.

After that hit, Brady runs to Edelman and they share a tender menbrace

Brady: I sprinted all the way down to see my guy

Edelman: no one picks my guy's balls. Especially not two of them

It must have felt great to flip the switch and light up any of the DBs who have been pressing, bumping, hand checking and basically knocking you around all game while all you usually get to do is suck it up and find daylight.

There was one play where Edelman was used as a blocker on the offensive line. He was motioning from left to right and ended up blocking on the line. I thought that was a little unusual. He ended up if I remember at the bottom of a pile of very large men.

I always liked this guy, he has always been a tough gutsy guy. He brings more to the team than I think welker ever did, overall that is, so don't flame me.

FYI you should hear the Denver media on the radio here, trashing welker...all indications he is gone after this year.
