We will see the real KC in the next few weeks. 3 at home 3 on road. Next three are @ Oak, Denver and @ Ariz.
6 games to play; 2 against Oakland, @ Steelers, @ Cardinals, Donkeys and Chargers.

I will definitely tune into the AZ game if it isn't being played at the same time as a Pats game.

The audible was a great call. Gronk had a td if Brady got anything on the ball. Heaving it up like that was a bad decision though.

Also to note, from Brady's initial stance it looked like the original call was a QB sneak. When colts bunched the line around the center Brady audibled to what could have been a great play. Unfortunately the line kinda whiffed and Brady felt the pressure and made a dumb heave up in the air

Other than two rushed throws by Brady and a couple special teams plays, this was about as well executed game as you'll see. Which says a lot as they've had a lot of good ones lately as it is.

I have some game thoughts a big picture thoughts. Also the internet was down yesterday for me and I realized how much I enjoy being able to talk in the game thread and listen to all your thoughts. You guys are great : )

#1 Chung with a silently good performance. I don't think I saw his jersey more than a few times that night. That has to have been a good sign.

#2 Arrington/Browner were not so good. Arrington did well keeping with Hilton on a few plays. However he had several bad plays. The one which bugged me the most is when he bumped into Browner and it left a TE open for a 20 yard gain. Browner on the other hand played his usual physical style but just got out played tonight. I think Browner can not match up with true TEs. Against pure pass catching ones I have seen him do fine and just knock them around but he was unable to slow down Allen with his bumps and just got out run after them. Something to monitor in the future but luckily there are not many pass catching TEs that are also just more physically imposing than Browner.

#3 The run O will exploit bad run Ds but get stopped by good run Ds. The Patriots run O has been sporadic and this is because of a pure talent limitation. They have run wild on the bad run Ds but against better ones like Denver they have been shut down. I expect that to be the case the rest of the season.

#4 If the Patriots don't win the SB (injuries aside) it will be because of Brady likely. This team is legit on D. They basically held the Colts to 13 points (cause 7 were gift wrapped) and Denver to 21. That is impressive.

#5 Wait and see on the run D. It has been impressive the last 2 games no doubt but before we start to crown them shut down caliber lets wait to play a legit NFL back. Forte ran for about 140 yards on them only a few weeks ago. These next 2 weeks will be more revealing as the quality in RBs and run games is about to go up.

Overall very pleased though.

Just to speak to your first point, I'm not sure Chung was on the field that often. I might be wrong, and I certainly remember seeing him at one point but I think he might have sat out quite a bit yesterday to get all of Revis/Browner/Arrington/Ryan on the field. It will be interesting to see his snap count.

LOL if that is the case then maybe I am wrong. I was just assuming he was on the field as much as usual and the passes didn't go his direction. Maybe I assumed wrong.

If the SB comes to just Brady not blowing it, I believe he will get the fourth ring.

No matter what anyone says, Brady have his team the lead in both Super Bowl losses only to watch the defense blow it. I know he played un-Brady like in those games, but putting the team ahead late in the fourth is all he can do.

Thank you for bringing this up. I'm looking forward to seeing the snap count and more detailed film review, but it's a great point.

I think Browner and Arrington did ok given the difficulty of the matchups. The Pats took away TY Hilton and Indy's running game, and Revis kept Wayne under control. We had to assume the Colts would make some plays.

I'd like to see how they do against Detroit and later on against the Jets. Don't under-estimate the impact of Cam Fleming in the rushing game - he looked good before getting hurt, and he was a major factor last night. He didn't play against the Jets or Donkeys. Gronk is also rounding into blocking form, which was missing earlier. Jonas Gray looks like he hits the hole hard and runs north-south, and I think there is more potential than you describe, but we'll have to wait and see.

#4 If the Patriots don't win the SB (injuries aside) it will be because of Brady likely. This team is legit on D. They basically held the Colts to 13 points (cause 7 were gift wrapped) and Denver to 21. That is impressive.

Like Denver in the late 90's with John Elway, the Pats have given Brady a solid team around him. He doesn't have to be superman, just keep things efficient and not make too many mistakes. This is very different from recent years, where the team would go only as far as Brady could carry them.

Again, I'm waiting on the defensive snap count and film breakdown, but I think that the presence of Alan Branch helps a lot. Sealver Siliga will also likely be activated this week. And Dominique Easley is progressing nicely. I agree with the "wait and see" approach, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Overall very pleased though.

We should all be giddy.

Yes and no. The whole team needs to show up and be consistent week in and week out. We cannot have the OL regressing like it did at some times during the 1st half last night. The WR's cannot drop critical passes. Brady cannot get flustered by pressure. The defense needs to keep playing strong.

Again, don't forget we went to KC and that offense ran all over our defense...and I would attribute part of it to not being prepared.

I'm optimistic about our chances

According to one source, Chung had 30 snaps last night while Ryan had 36, Arrington had 48 and Browner and Revis played almost every snap.

I got dinged pretty hard for considering him a 'down' in my thread. I saw him struggle a lot in the first half before settling down a bit in the second. My ups and downs are very knee-jerk and without the benefit of watching the game a second or third time. Some are praising him on the radio as well. I saw him getting plenty of help and NE played plenty of zone, but he seems to be getting most of the credit for limiting Hilton. I'll have to watch the game again, as I really don't know if it's justified or not at this point. I have always liked Arrington, especially in the slot. I'll watch again and see what I can see.

I said in the game thread after it happened that I see what Brady was trying to do there. He got the look he wanted and audibled into the right play to beat it. In fact, Gronk was open. Brady didn't count on having the pressure in his face as quickly as he got it. Still, a legendary QB should know better, as you stated.

Everyone keeps on singling out that ONE play.

What about the silly bomb to Tyms interception before that???

Or, the 3rd and 3 (with all the time in the world for Brady) loft in the air incompletion to a doubled covered Wright.

The 14-10 score was far closer than it should have been at the half.

Let's face it - - Brady had some mental rust in that 1st half. Good that he shook it off for the 2nd.

I only talked about that because it's the play that I was quoting specifically. I have Brady as a 'down' in my thread. I think he had a miserable first half. The play to Tyms was into double and eventually triple coverage. Moreover, he took a hit shortly after releasing the pass. It definitely was not his finer moment or one of his better first halves. He rebounded well, as you stated.

I don't know if other's noted on that Tyms INT that Vollmer, who gave up the pressure on that play, had been off the field the previous play and had been replaced by Cannon. I suspect it was just rotation but it seems strange to take a RT off the field for just one play.

  • After a slow start, Revis is being Revis. Easily the best CB in the NFL. Give him an extension now. He is the best and I don't know if the second guy is all that close.

I agree that the Revis is best, but Patrick Peterson has been absolutely lights out over the last few weeks as well, after having a slow start of his own. He's right up there with Revis.

They beat the Pats in Week 4. Then last week they barely got out of Buffalo with a W.

I am not saying that they are a bad team but lets forget those transitive who beats who comparisons. I don't think that they have a higher chance to run the table than we do. I am less worried about any opponent at Foxboro than on the road, especially KC..

The Chiefs are a tough matchup for the Pats, since the Pats' defensive strength (taking away your WRs) takes away something that the Chiefs don't really have in the first place. That said, Branch and Siliga will definitely help a lot in any rematch.

Every game is 'winnable' but they would be the underdog in all 3.
