This season, the Colts have allowed 552 yards to tight ends, which puts them 21st in the NFL. Only seven other teams have allowed more touchdowns to opposing tight ends than Indianapolis, which has allowed six, and only nine other teams have allowed more receptions.

In Week One, Denver’s Julius Thomas caught seven passes for 104 yards and three touchdowns. Philadelphia’s Zach Ertz caught four passes for 86 yards the following week. When the Colts beat the Ravens in Week Five, Owen Daniels led Baltimore with five catches for 70 yards.

Bengals tight end Jermaine Gresham caught 10 passes in Week Seven. The next week, it was Pittsburgh’s Heath Miller going off, hauling in seven passes for 112 yards and a score.

Gronk should have a field day

Gronk and wright could have some good numbers.
Wright may be a guy who is going to sneak up and have a big game. If the Colts focus on Gronk they may leave Wright more open. Now that I have said this he wont even play 15 snaps

FWIW, Football Outsiders has them 29th against TE and 32nd against RB (vs. the pass). That would seem to suggest well for us.

I was looking at these stats as well. I think if Gronk doesn't have a big day (because they concentrate on him) somebody else will.

Most teams struggle with Tight Ends though. They are just a horrible matchup for defenses. That's why teams these last couple of years have been over drafting these guys. They all are looking for the next Gronk or Graham, and even the former #81 that's locked up at Suffolk county jail.

Gronk is in the unique position that he's too shifty for Linebackers and too strong for Defensive Backs. Perhaps his biggest advantage is I happen to believe Gronk is an incredibly intelligent football player. From my casual observation, he appears to see the field like Brady does, diagnosing where the coverage is soft and running to those spots.

Absolutely.

Counter with the fact, besides being an elite pass catcher, he's also an elite blocker, and he's picked up a complicated offensive system since his rookie year. Just think about how many guys, including proven vets couldn't get down this system.

You take away Gronk's injuries, in my mind you have the perfect football player. The word BEAST gets thrown around a lot, but I think its the best word to describe Gronk. I pray the guy plays out a healthy career because he truly is a special talent. I would hate to look back at his career and think of what could have been....

Best example of Gronk's versatility...

Back to back weeks (Bears, Broncos) on goal line situations, Brady recognized Gronk was In a favorable matchup with an LB, where he motions Gronk out wide. At that point, everybody with a football brain knew Brady was always going to go to Gronk at that point ...

Vs the Bears, Brady conncects with Gronk on a fade route.. Vs the Broncos, with the freaky athletic Von Miller covering him 1v1, Gronk leaves him in no mans land on a slant. To the point Miller looked just so out matched on that play...

Guy is a BEAST!

What if we just play all 3 TEs + LaFell and Vereen? Wouldn't that be a matchup nightmare? Run or pass, no huddle.

I want to see a lot of Wright today....and of course GRONK all day

I think you will get what you ask for, I heard it said on ESPN Matchup that 43 out of 48 recent Gronkowski targets / receptions came when he was given a free release off the line. They also said that KC strategy was about the only team that game planned to not to allow that to happen and they didn't with Tamba Hali constantly knocking him off stride, then dropping back into coverage in front with a safety over the top ( I think the fact that Gronkowski was still at way less than 100% also explains why he had a rough day).

All,of that being said, look for Indy to at least devote enough manpower to try to keep Gronkowski from getting totally free releases off the line, in doing so that seems to mean that Wright, Hooman and even Devlin are set up for big days.

They would be dumb to let him get a free release off the line..just look at those stats. The day Devlin has a big day is the day I go streaking on the field

They don't even mention gronk for us FF players vs this Colts D...huh? They have Allen as #1 this week vs us

Gronk isn't mention because he doesn't need to be. If you need someone to tell you to start Gronk then you have no idea about football, so that's why he isn't mentioned.

As for Allen being a Start of the Week that's the FF nerd analysts looking at numbers and thinking Allen could get some points.
