Randy Moss would come out of retirement to play with Peyton Manning

Seahawks reached out to Randy Moss after trading Percy Harvin

The Seattle Seahawks knew they were going to trade embattled receiver Percy Harvin in the weeks leading up to the deal that shipped him to the New York Jets for minor draft picks. However, Seattle didn't have many options to turn to in free agency once Harvin was gone.

The Seahawks even contacted retired NFL receiver Randy Moss about joining the team after Harvin was dealt. The Seahawks reportedly looked into adding the 37-year-old future Hall of Famer, who last played in 2012, and why not? Seattle is coming off a Super Bowl-winning season, and Moss was never able to get his hands on a ring. He certainly would get a nice final shot at it with the Seahawks, who could use a big receiver like him.

Despite this, Moss declined Seattle's offer, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Denver Post.

But even at 37, he says he’s still in top shape and confirmed an earlier report by Jay Glazer that the Seahawks had reached out to him about replacing receiver Percy Harvin, who has since been shipped to the Jets.

Moss declined the offer, but while on Fox Sports’ "The Peter Schrager Podcast" last week, he didn’t rule out an NFL return — so long as it was with a certain quarterback.

Moss has already retired and un-retired once after calling it quits in 2010, following a tumultuous season that saw him open the year in New England before getting traded to Minnesota, cut a few weeks later, and signed by Tennessee. After not playing in 2011, Moss signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 2012, but he only caught 28 passes for 434 yards and three scores.

Even at his age, Moss may be able to crack the top four or five in the Seahawks' wide receiver rotation. Though Seattle didn't appeal to him, Moss did admit that playing for theDenver Broncos and All-Pro quarterback Peyton Manning would be tempting.

"So for me to be able to say that I still miss the game, I still love the game — I’m loving what I’m doing here at Fox, don’t get it wrong — but for me to be able to come back to the game for a guy like Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, guys, I might consider something like that."

He's a slouch. Not really. I loved to watch him play here up until he went all Diva. But I think the offense is doing just fine without him.

The problem isn't the age thing alone -- 37 is old for NFL but not out of the question old -- it is age coupled with not playing in the NFL for an extended period of time. The only way to maintain that high level mental and physical edge is to play in NFL games (and practice) on a consistent basis. While it's not impossible to get that back even with his extended absence (almost 2 years?), getting it back at this age is improbable.
Randy has: (a) long storied career, (b) is near one of life's pivotal age milestones, (c) has complete financial security, (d) has a decent job that pays relatively very well and requires minimal work.
So he is now going to go out and seriously drive himself through the grueling process of playing in the NFL to get that mental/physical edge back in order to be a #3 or#4 option at WR? Seems very improbable to me. What seems more probable is Randy just became a sports media guy by making a statement that may generate a little controversy, which will generate some clicks/headlines.

I didn't see it, but if that's what he said, why is it so predictable the media would turn the headline into "RANDY MOSS WANTS TO PLAY FOR PEYTON MANNING"

Just pathetic.

I can't wait for him to get eliminated in the first round this year.

Agreed that the media will completely spin/make up many if not most controversies. But it was well known that Randy was quasi enamored with BB, TB and his connection to the Patriots (I think Randy was having a bit of a mental health issue by the end of his Patriot tenure [not a shot at Randy, just seemed like he was heaving difficulty on that medical type level]).
With the Manning-Brady rivalry being the biggest selling headline for the NFL (and the NFL being the biggest visual entertainment medium), is it outlandish for sports pundits and fans to consider/dissect what Randy's statement says/means?
While they are likely to take it too far -- way too far is very possible -- IMHO it is a fair item to be given some discussion/dissection.

I will always be a Randy fan. Arguably the best receiver of all time (w/Rice) in a Pats uniform and kicking ass was a sight to see. Brady to Moss was a beautiful thing.

this is a joke

most exciting WR of all time in his early prime

but......he's completely washed up

i like him......i hope he saved his money

Randy will get killed with forehead lol. But I guess he knows he has burned his bridges in NE and hence would only play for the next best thing. Shame being he is my favorite player and my only wish was for him to get a Superbowl with NE

Moss had 28 receptions in his final season, with 3 TDs. The Patriots WR3-WR5 (and including Thompkins) currently have 19 receptions, and 2 TDs combined.

I'll help you out. The patriots, even after their start, are the second highest scoring team in the league by 1 point per game, and they just crushed the leader in scoring. You are obsessed with wide receivers, but i think most fans are happy to see non wide receivers like Gronk and Vereen get touches, even when it means they lack in the all important 3-5 receiver reception category.

Still only allowed to use one ball at a time.

Couple of thoughts. First, it's sort of unfair to call Randy's end of tenure in NE a diva period. He had been a great teammate, caught 50 TDs and simply wanted to get paid as such. Unfortunately for him, the team had moved away from throwing long because of two emerging stars, Gronk and Hernandez - and let's be honest, Tom was errant on some of those long balls. I think Bill felt he could move on because of his new found love for the TE sets and traded Moss. It's easy to make the argument that he was washed up once he left, but we all know that Randy needed the right environment to flourish. In the end, I think Bill was wrong here. Pats lost in the playoffs to the Jests and having Randy as a deep threat could have changed that game. Randy certainly was slowing down, but as he said himself, a slower Randy Moss, was still faster than most wideouts and DBs in the league. As an aside, I live near Los Angeles, but in 2010, I bought tickets to finally see Moss and company live at the razor. He was traded a week before my trip. I was bummed, but I did get to see the return of Deion Branch in the OT win over Baltimore.
