Ryan Mallett may start for Texans week 11

Poor Andre Johnson can't say he didn't see this coming...another wasted year on a Team going nowhere. I hope the Texans have a capable third stringer because the first time Malley gets hit its lights out.

Hopefully they run a lot of hurry up and sustain drives. Mallet needs to hit 40% of the offensive snaps by seasons end for us!

If he keeps the starter job until the end of regular season he will play a little over 40% (the math uses snap by snap not games) and the conditional 7th round pick will become a 6th.

So, let me get this straight... There are 4 QBs ( Mallet, Hoyer, Cassel & Brady ) starting this week in NFL who were drafted by BB and the 5th one is sitting in bench as Brady's understudy !!

This must be some kind of record.

Cassel's on IR. :(

Cassel's on IR. :(

ouch, I forgot ! But still at various points in the same season, 4 QBs started who were drafted by the same HC/GM and were the understudy of Brady.

This is incredible !!

I just checked NFL.com and the Texans are on their Bye this week same as us. Was really hoping this game would be on this week so I could watch it.

It's about time they are starting Mallet. Fitz was never going anywhere as starting QB and Mallet is on a 1 year contract. My guess is they didn't start Mallet for as long as possible so we couldn't get a better pick from them if he were good and play most snaps. Now we will finally see how good or bad Mallet really is.

Houston's offense might cater to Mallet's skill set more than New England's offense did (while he was here).

We're based on timing and route running, and in his time here, with smaller receivers usually not capable of going up and getting the ball.

Also based on decision making an accuracy. Something RM was iffy with here in limited playing time.

In Texas he'll have a strong run game, throw off of play-action, and bigger, taller, downfield receivers in Johnson and Hopkins to go and high point the ball. People have always said that was his type of strength, correct?

Agreed. Players with a larger catch radius that get better separation will help him.

I've still don't recall seeing him throw the deep ball with much touch in NE, but the vertical game has usually been cited as his strength and he should be setup for more success there than he was here in that aspect.

He threw some decent deep balls here. Again, its all in the preseason so hard to tell how good he really is.

Ironically, during the season he was traded our offense has much more of a vertical look both on the outside and up the seams with probably an even taller set of skill players than Houston has.

With LaFell, Tynes, Dobson, Wright and Gronk those are some hefty targets. Jules is not a big target but not a smurf either.

At a quick glance, HOUs TEs are big-big but our WRs are bigger than HOUs...

I really hope he'll succeed. i liked him.

Just as I predicted. It will be interesting to see how Mallett performs now that he's not in Brady's shadow anymore.

Mallett to Hopkins could be an interesting future combination for Houston. Hopefully it'll put to bed the talk of Fitzmagic's 49 score in the Wonderlic. Guy plays like he scored -49.

Happy to see Mallett get a chance. He really deserves it.

He dropped quite far in the draft, and lots of chatter about attitude and whatnot, but he was perfect while he was here. Maybe the Patriots rehabbed him, I don't know.

I hope Mallett and Hoyer both have huge games and get into a wild shoot-out. I'll be tuning into that one for sure.

The Texans will be my second favorite team for the immediate future as I'm truly interested in if Mallet can make the transition into a starting NFL caliber quarterback.

I did the same thing with the Chiefs for a while after Cassel left.

Not bad for a guy who all the other teams' fans say is an awful GM

Not a Mallett guy here.
I think it's going to be a disaster. Might be worse than Fitzpatrick.

Good luck to Ryan Mallet ... I'll be pulling for him - he was a good professional when here.

Hoyer has better stats.
Come at me, bro.

Fitzpatrick is a decent backup at best. I have no idea why they've continued to start him

I thought Fitz could be a good game manager, as long as he didn't have to carry the team himself. Now that is in question.

Perhaps the Texans began to demand more than that game manager from him, and he doesn't have the talent for that.
